Carnivale is definitely spec fiction. Ben Hawkins has the power to heal, but also the power to drain life. He has a strange and unexplained connection to a minister; they share the same dreams, but have never met. It reminds me of Twin Peaks, with bizarre characters and events that will eventually be explained -- or not. Guess you have to see it.
