NEW YORK - Doers and doings in business, entertainment and technology:
Barry Diller's USA Interactive (nasdaq: USAI - news - people ) said it sued Vivendi Universal (nyse: V - news - people ), asking a court to settle a dispute over some $620 million in tax liabilities that USA claims is due it. USA also said that it could stymie the Gallic media empire's efforts to sell its theme park and media assets--many stockpiled during the acquisition intoxication of the Jean-Marie Messier years--if it does not get a letter of credit for some $2 billion more to secure its preferred shares in their complex partnership. The sesquicentennial Vivendi is in talks to sell all or parts of Vivendi Universal Entertainment in order to raise cash. VUE was formed last year in a partnership with Diller, who recently abdicated as its chairman, chiding Vivendi for so-called "buyer's remorse." More...
