View Full Version : I called Henson...again.

Okay...so I've been having tons of difficulties getting through to someone at the NY office to make arrangements for the upcoming gift basket. Every time I call, I end up getting connected to someone new. It's weird.
So I gave in and called the LA office..and what a great response! Again I spoke with someone that I hadn't worked with before, but she is someone who deals with fan mail. So she knows very well who we are.
She was VERY nice and even offered to call the NY office for me and speak with her counterpart...and make the arrangements for us. (Even gave us the name of someone to put it attn to: so it doesn't get lost.)
She was VERY VERY VERY VERY nice and excited about the campaign. She told me that they did receive the baskets and were thrilled beyond measure. In fact, she told me that we could not have possibly aimed any higher for our targets...she said that the VERY top (Brian Henson and Juliet Blake) were the recipients of the baskets. She said we couldn't have done any better at making our message known. (She even mentioned that they loved the "kegger in a basket" that we sent...:rollin: ) I sort of stopped at that message part..not sure what to say. I mean I wanted to make sure that she had the right message in mind and she said..."Well, I guess I should say if your message is to let everyone know that you are still here and that you aren't quitting and you still care." I said..."Yup. That's the message." Then she said "Everyone here is very aware of how much you all mean to the Hensons."
She was VERY interested in the Military and Library projects. She wondered how we were going about doing them and what kind of response that we were receiving. She said that they will keep an eye on these things because it's very incredible what we're doing. (I had to get those plugs in there..LOL) She said that she would pass the information around that we were doing this and that she was sure everyone else would be blown away by the fact that we are doing so much good for people too. (So keep up with the donations for those projects!!)
I also gave her a heads up that we were looking at the Hollywood Reporter ad and she was again...blown away. She said she was glad that she knew ahead of time so that she could make sure everyone got copies of it. :bounce: :bounce:
So...let's see. I think that's about it. Henson loves us. :D Need I say more???
I have a feeling a lasting working relationship has opened up today. She was very cool. Oh..and she asked me to pass along that everyone wondering if the baskets arrived...they did. It seems they've gotten a plethora of emails asking about the baskets and if they were enjoyed. They were. Trust me. They still ARE being enjoyed. (And she said "You're spoiling us rotten here. You know you don't have to do that. I really need to tell you that you don't have to. It's okay." And I said, "We want to. Really. There's no stopping it. People are very eager to do this sort of thing." Again...blown away.

And I told her that there were many British Scapers who wanted to do something as well and this was their chance. She was boggled..in the very nicest of ways. I'm sure that Mr. Henson will be hearing about that one! :D

Newbie here...First post and everything. I've been hanging out over the corner there, and now I just want to add in my happy, happies to the rest. Good news on this board is just the thing after fighting the traffic home after work every day.
I only found out about the show when I finally got cable in late Feb (yes, naturally, just in time to watch the last few eps). I'm making up for lost time as fast as I can afford to. And I'm so happy to find people who are just as passionate and active (okay, way more so) about their addictions.
So, now I have to try and come up with something for the 'addicted' thread...

I am so proud to be a member of this community. Even though I wasn't able to contribute to the baskets because my money is tight right now, I know that they went out with all of the care and love of all of the Scapers. And after the two weeks that I've had, I really needed a pick-me-up! I mean, I know that dren happens, but why does it always have to happen to ME?

Can someone answer this question.. Now that henson has the rights to their own show, can they help us "acitivly" get the word out and advertise. A larger fan base would diretly help them market their show to networks. Their finacial backing in our efforts would take this campaigne to new hieghts.
Stargate2077

They can't help our campaign for the same reasons that the actors can help our campaign. It would look bad in the entertainment industry for them to help us directly.

It makes the company unprofessional in the entertainment industry if it directly helps a fan campaign (i.e. financially, etc.).

Wow didn't know the actors couldn't plug thier own show.
I suppose that begs the question, "who wants to see a "SAVE FARSCAPE" booth/exposition at the upcoming conventions?"
Granted, i doubt anyone there will NOT know farscape has been cancelled, but organization is a good thing, and perhaps a listing of all that we have done and are trying to do will boost the morale of the actors and maybe get more people involved. Pics of easter bunny, farscape posters, bumper stickers, petitions ...we could find stuff to fill it.
I'm also sure we could find some scapers willing to run it since the actors present would probly feel obligated to visit it, shake hands and heap praise. Anyone have info on how to get a booth?
jadeshand
05-23-2003, 12:04 PM
The Save Farscape table/booth has been at several conventions including both Farscape conventions last year. There will be booths at the major cons this year, including the Farscape convention in Burbank.

Another comment on the above question:
The actors can't be seen as leading or influencing a campaign to save their own *job.* Not only will no one (especially casting directors) take them seriously from that point on, no one would take US seriously, either. They ahve to stay neutral, and we have to remain looking like we sincerely thought of this ourselves -- which we most certainly did.
To tell the truth, we haven't needed any assistance, and I can't think what Henson or anyone can do for us anyway. We have achieved things in this campaign that have never been done before. You Scapers are making media history!

Grinner: I don't think that was ever confirmed. We just believe that the Australia shop was closed down because all of Farscape's props were moved to the UK. Since the props were moved to the UK, then there most likely is not a shop in Australia anymore.

If you are talking creature shop here, they are definately in Oz at the moment preparing for Star Wars Episode 3
snurched from Kansas:
Just found some news over on the Aussie Mafia board and thought I'd share it with you.
Our wonderful OzDebP who, as some of you may be aware, has contact with various studios etc in Sydney (this has to do with her job...although I'm hazy on the details), and she posted to say that, having heard a rumour that Dave Elsey (head of Farscape's creature shop) was back in town, when she was at Fox Studios the other day she decided to head over and check out the rumour.
She ran into Rebecca, one of Farscape's Creature Shop staff and Lou Elsey (Dave's wife...who also worked on Farscape). They had attended FAM's first TaScape BBQ back in 2002.
Apparently Dave was busy, but he is working on Star Wars 3 as Creature Supervisor and most of the F/Scape Creature Shop crew are also working there. The Farscape Puppeteers are also expected to be working on Star Wars 3 some time around late June or July.
Lou told Deb that they were overjoyed to be back in Oz, and were also really pleased at the news of Brian buying back Henson's as they too see it as a positive step in perhaps getting some more Farscape in some manner or another. Word is they would all be back doing Farscape at the drop of a hat...if only....!!!

The mention of "professional" gives me an idea:
Why not *hire* one of the actors, say, Ben Browder, because he's in LA now looking for work anyway --
And certainly he'd be positively disposed toward helping the cause, so to speak... And SAG scale is still WAY cheap for a 10 second spot (and talents sometimes *donate* their effort on a PSA).
I mean, if we *hire* someone who *used to-but-doesn't-anymore* work for Henson [on Farscape[ -- it's certainly not unprofessional of them to take the job --
*Especially* not when it's a good cause that they believe in...! :)
I hope this helps!

I would love to do that and I am sure everyone else on the website would too, but hiring the actor does not change his or her relationship to the show. Ben Browder and the other actors of Farscape would turn it down because it does not give them a good image. It would make them look like they are complaining that their show got cancelled. At least that's what I believe. If someone knows the entertainment industry very well, you can jump in now to confirm what I am saying or dismiss it.

I've been voiceover talent; in my opinion, Ben would have to decline.
Pragmatically, it would be worth his career, certainly worth any career development away from Farscape, for him to be perceived as aligning himself against a cable channel or its parent company in this way.
Let's not put him in the unpleasant position of having to choose between us and his career. Please.

Peeps!! Yes it's Dave Elsey and his wife Lou.. but it's not the creature shop!! :)
They are most likely on a contract with Lacasarts. There is no Henson office or contingent in Oz at the moment.Dave's wife Lou confirmed it through a mate of mine in Oz who's job involves special effects stuff (merch ) on movies and tv. They have hired former Farscape crew members because our guys are the cream of the crop. :) I was told there is nowhere to send any baskets. :(
So just to confirm.. it's not Hensons. :)
Also just to add I was also told that the puppeteers from Farscape will also hopefully be able to get a gig on Starwars aswell.. but again it's not a Henson thing.. Just talented people getting a break! :)
And yep the creature shop in Oz was shut down.. it is no more.. alas... it's an ex shop.. :(

I agree 100% We've stumbled this far without directly involving any of the cast and crew. As much as I love Farscape..and as much as we know they do.. It's not worth risking their future prospects or reputation over it... :D

Gurnemanz, can you imitate Dargo's voice? Perhaps we could
hire Rich Little! :D

Umm . . . I can probably get close. Anth is taller than I am, so I'd expect his vocal chords to be thicker (Ladies! Stop that! Don't go there!). I'm a bass-baritone, not a real bass.
I believe many or most of Dargo's lines are looped in post-production; it sounds like a very close-miked vocal technique to me, more than could be done easily with hanging shotgun mikes.
Tell the truth, I've been working on Jonathan Hardy/Rygel . . .
