View Full Version : New Campaign Idea - Raise Bar Again?

All,

After a highly heated debate on P2P sharing, a thought struck me.

Scary, I know, but hey! :smokin:

To date, the participants of this campaign have risen the bar on how to go after saving a show.

How about we raise it again?

I'm not sure if this will be possible, but the thought that struck me was:

What if we put together a movie trailer and see if we can't get it slapped onto the beginning of The Matrix - Revolutions?

The movie trailer could follow the same line of non-copyrighted material like the "I am Farscape" commercials or Vanity (sp??) front cover advertisement. Or, we might even want to attempt to approach the Henson company and see if we couldn't get permission to use some of that material for that purpose -- I'm not sure if this would be possible, though, as I don't quite follow where copyright lines lie between the Henson company and the Sci-Fi channel.

In any case, especially after reading the latest thread on our beloved friend Bonnie, I figure the demographics of a good number of people that will go to watch The Matrix - Revolutions will be quite similar to those of us who watch Farscape. Not to mention that The Matrix - Revolutions will pretty much require that the viewer has already seen The Matrix - Reloaded. And the story... not sure what other people thought of it, but I found it extremely deep and something that made me think.

If this is a silly idea, feel free to delete from the board but I just thought it would be kind of drad to do something at this level, too. :aok:

That would probably be very... very expensive. Would this be for a broad release? Or just at local theaters?

Grinner,

Yeah, I thought it might be quite expensive, too, so I'm not sure that it could be done.

As to national or local distribution, I thought we could at least invesitage, take a look at the cost, and then make a determination on where to go from there.

The first step, though, is to determine if we want to take the time to look into this. If the research isn't too time consuming, and there is enough interest in exploring this possibility, then I thought we could start looking at the details of such an endeavor.

I will say, though, that Blizzard - a game company that has made a number of top-selling/top-played PC games - distributed an Introduction CG sequence for their Diablo II game and, if memory serves, this was a trailer to a major motion picture (I seem to remember Star Wars Episode I, but am no longer sure). I think that this was a nation-wide distribution.

We had a discussion similar to this where scapers were buying static ad time in theaters before LOTR (I believe). I'll search and see what I can find.

Guys, I'm not sure you can just add a trailer to a theatrical release movie. You've either got to get the theater on board (by no means cheap or easy to do and, given that theater owners are somewhat sensitive to audiences who complain about advertising before a feature film, somewhat unlikely) or the movie distributor on board (really really really unlikely). If it was easy for anybody to add a trailer before a feature film, you would have seen lots of other firms doing it by now. The ONLY trailers I've EVER seen are for
a) a charity (i.e boys club)
b) PepsiCo (lots of money to throw around on advertising)
c) other movies (usually negotiated between movie distributors in advance of the premier)

Otherwise, the only other advertising is the "slide show" that is shown as the audience is arriving.
