All you Scapers:
Hello. I honeslty can't believe I am here. Please indulge me for a moment:
When Farscape was on TV, I faintly remember seeing ads for it. I also remember it being on Friday nights, rather late. I was in college while it was on, and needless to say, my Fridays were busy "socializing".
After college, I moved to my favorite city in the world, Chicago. And, again, Fridays were not for TV. They were for fun. (If I only knew...)
Now, thanks to the rotten economy, I have moved back to the town of my alma mater to start graduate school. As such, I have become a waiter again (to go from sales making LOTS to 3.09/hour + tips is taking some getting used to). However, my true love is writing, and I aim to get a Master's in it.
So, here I am, up too late due to my work schedule, and I see Farscape is being run at 11 p.m. central time on Sci-Fi. I decide to watch it. I see the episode "DNA MAd Scientist". Let me assure you I NEVER saw it coming when they lopped off Pilot's arm.....my jaw literally dropped, and I thought, "Wow. I didn't see that coming AT ALL" (I was tired and not very eloquent in my thoughts)
Needless to say, I became hooked IMMEDIATELY. I went to SciFi.com to look up the show and discovered..... IT WAS CANCELLED. WHAT????? I was shocked. Then I found this site. Then I watched more shows. I became so hooked I went to KaZaa and downloaded the first 10 episodes (I know, I know) and watched them over 3 days. Then I was REALLY hooked. I mean, like never before. I am not a huge TV watcher...give me the NFL on Sundays, and the Simpsons on Sundays, with a little Discovery Channel and ESPN Sportscenter, and I'm good. But this was incredible.......
Fast forward to present. I found this site, and was immediately happy. I LOVE THIS SHOW and I'm upset I found it so late. Why was a show this good on so late on Friday nights???? I love the story, the actors, hell, even Rygel and Pilot have distinct personalities. I know there are a lot of you out there that love the show, but I am a "newbie" that had "heard of it" in the past and never watched because I thought it would be every other show.... I mean, here I am on a "Save a TV Show" website, and I assure you, I have NEVER done so in the past.
I am sorry I am rambling, but the writing is incredible. The actors are GREAT. All of them. I kid you not when I say I haven't been this excited about a show ever. EVER. I really connect when I am watching it, and just am totally absorbed. Okay then.......
I don't have to tell all of you how good the acting is. I plan on buying the DVD boxed sets soon, so I can become an "honest" watcher of the show. And to all those who think KaZaa is stealing, downloading the show and being able to watch it from episode 1 in order has made all the difference in the world and is what makes the show so great. The story truly is a story and not just a "plot of the week". Plus, watching in order is what hooked me, and now I am here, and plan to buy the boxed sets when the funds allow (I'm a waiter again remember).
Okay then, I have talked enough. In support of the show, I actually called the number you advertised here on the site to voice my opinion. I want to do more. Seriously, I can't believe I am expending so much effort on behalf of a show. But I really, Really like it, and would like to volunteer my writing services and talents to whatever project needs work!
Lastly, one more thing:
SciFi claims the show lost viewrs. I am sure (and I hope) that the ratings are an inexact science. They had the SHOW ON FRIDAY NIGHT AT 10. HELLO??????????? Of course I never saw it.....I am not criticizing those that did, but 10 pm Friday IS NOT the best night for a show to be on....... most people go out on Fridays. Why wasn't it on, say, Tuesday at 8 p.m.? I probably would have found it then..... plus, I think I read something like when SciFi expanded its households, the number of viewers went down. And how are ratings calculated again? I know no one asks me what I watch...and every weeknight, I stay up just to watch Farscape at 11 CST.
Plus, I really don't care for Stargate SG-1. It is exactly what I thought Farscape would be: Cheesy. Predictable writing. Typical main actor with lame one-liners. Browder's cockiness is NOT predictable, and totally fits. Aeryn's and Crichton's story arc is great, and I don't usually buy into the "main acotrs fall in love" plot. But the writing is so good.... The writing between Farscape and Stargate is WORLDS apart.
Thank You for taking the time to read this, and please let me know what I can do to help. I really like this show, and have been telling my friends to watch. And, I've even heard "Is it still on?" from like 10 people who are confused, as they were loyal watchers and are waiting for the new season to start. (I had to burst their bubble).
Final question/thought:
Can Farscape be saved? Or is it hopeless? Is it too late? If this info. is elsewhere, kindly point me to it, and I will look it up. Thanks again..... I really hope this show is saved.......

Welcome aboard the Virtual Moya, AstroEddie!!!
HEE-HEE-HEE.... so you got bit by the Farscape bug, huh??? I got bit when my local cable provider started broadcasting FS right before the beginning of the 3rd season. They were doing some season 1&2 reruns leading up to the next season. I'm not a big sci-fi genre fan, myself (I think more because most programs and movies in that genre tend to follow certain unwritten guidelines, or become too cliched, or rely too little on quality writing --- story, plot, dialogue).
FS is definitely UNIQUE (kinda like KFC with it's 11 herbs and spices). And, if you've seen the "Liars Guns & Money" trilogy, I'm sure you'll get a good laugh at that. :D
Head on over to the "New To The Campaign" forum and you'll get caught up to speed on what's been happening here. Trust me... the way things have been going lately, I'm confident that we will eventually get our show back.
So, kick back, relax, dig in, get your hands dirty, join the fun... etc. etc. etc...
Three things to remember:
1) Stay away from Rygel's stash of food cubes,
2) Never, ever, EVER touch "Winona,"
3) Peeing in the maintenance bay is only allowed if your soul is stuck in Crichton's body.

Thank you all very much for the welcome. I am running out of town for a long weekend (woo hoo) but plan on sending off a very polite but impassioned snail mail letter on Monday.
And trubador, you're cracking me up with the references. Until Farscape I don't think I ever saw a character actually take a leak. And that episode cracked me up!!! D'Argo acting all feminine slayed me. And all the nicknames Crichton uses for everyone is funnier than hell too. This is what I mean when I say its not some cheesy one liner.....the dialogue is so natural. I tried watching Stargate (as I liked the movie) and found it wanting. The lead character's one liners are horrible, predictable, and lame. My favorite Crichton nicknames for others:
Frau Bluka (I laughed for like 5 minutes)
Sparky
Buckwheat
Again, the show is also so unexpected...in the early episodes, when Rygel took a chunk out of Aeryn's arm, when Pilot lost an arm, when Rygel cut off the head of his torturer..... the show is full of surprising moments. Rygel and Pilot are far from just puppets.... I can completely suspend disbelief when I watch, which is what makes it so fun.
Alright then, I will wade into the mess here and see what I can do to help. I had asked if there was hope since won't Sept. mark the one year point of it being cancelled? Perhaps something BIG needs to be done before then to light things up. I don't know what has been done thus far (I'll read up), but has something just over the top, so big it CAN'T be ignored ever been thought of or planned? Thanks for the warm welcome, hopefully this all leads to the return of the show!!!!!!

Welcome from the great Commonwealth of Kentucky as well!
Hey, don't know if you're aware of this but there is a ScaperCon RIGHT IN YOUR AREA August 1-4... There are threads here that give more details as well as other sites (can't think of them right now, someone help me out, please, not enough Diet Dew yet!!!) that give good information. Hope you enjoy yourself here, as I'm a relative newbie and I've been welcomed with open arms.
I've also been a "server" and I know the $ isn't all that great, but some low-cost things you could do are snail and e-mailing. If you have the time and inclination, there are the threads that have all the contact info on them...
Again, welcome to "Moya" and hope you have as much fun as I've had!

Welcome AstroEddie!
I've heard that the Betty Ford Clinic is considering opening a new wing to cure Farscape addiction, but either people don't want to be cured or there is no cure.
JMS (Babylon 5) started this. He wanted to make a statement that television could be intelligent and succeed. Now, I'll never be able to watch another program without applying the Farscape Standard.
Friday's have always been a black for the networks for the very reasons that you missed the show. SciFi created the SciFi Friday to break that reputation, and not have steep competition.

Hello fellow Grad Student!
Welcome to the site! One way to get a quick look at stuff that happened earlier on is to look at the online press kit:
http://www.scaperoute.com/savefarscape/onlinekit/onlinemain.html
This has a history of how the campaign here started and some of the things that Scapers have done. I don't know when the last time was that it was updated, but it's quite comprehensive for our efforts from 2002 at least.
There are many of us here on the site who have never contributed in "Save Our Show" campaigns before, but who've felt compelled to step up for Farscape. And we're always glad to find one more :) :) :)

Welcome AstroEddie!
You sound like me. I usually can take or leave a TV show. I've seen a lot of them come and go. This was the first time I got so angry about one of my favorite shows being cancelled that I actually decided to write to a network (over and over) and join a campaign to try to bring the show back on the air.
Check out all the forums here. You'll find it's a fun place to be.
Hope to "see" you around.

Amen, Astro Eddie!
And Welcome!
I was a newcomer in the middle of Season 3, and you wouldn't believe all the trouble I went to to find eps! --or maybe you would. I'm still collecting all the DVDs.
So many new people have caught the show after it was cancelled. It just doesn't make sense that the rating system could be accurate.
Do you have any friends you could "convert"??

"Hello, my name is AstroEddie and I'm a Farscapaholic."
:lol I love reading people's reactions to FS when they first discover it. I was just like you, AE, when I came across it at the end of S3. Rygel's explosive pee in TGIFA is what hooked me. I literally hooted out loud ... and I *never* do that!!
As for what you can do, write letters ... lotsa lotsa letters to Viacom, UPN, Showtime, Henson, and yes, even Sci Fi if you have the extra time. Let them know that Farscape is lightening in a bottle, just waiting to be tapped by executives who 1) understand and can appreciate its potential, and 2) have the resources and willingness to support it.
And by all means, get every single friend, co-worker and family member hooked! The more people who are brought into the fold, the more letters and the more economic potential the potential backers of more FS will see!
And hope? Hell yeah, there's hope. We wouldn't be here if there wasn't hope!

You know, several of you have mentioned telling others about Farscape. What's funny is that I have mentioned it to some of my friends, and a bunch already told me "Oh yeah, Farscape is awesome. I love it". One friend of mine was waiting for the new season to start still, he didn't realize it was cancelled.
A few more of my friends have "heard it's good" but don't watch it because their jobs require them to be up early and FS is on late. I truly think this show was a bigger success than SciFi realizes.

Seeing all the welcome warm fuzzies that AstroEddie got, I feel the need (read: desperate for attention) to tell my story as well, and finally get off my butt and join the community. Bear with me, as I am a long time lurker, but new to the forum.
Newly divorced in 1999, with 2 small children, and totally unsure of what direction my life was going to take, I was treated to something wonderful: satellite TV. (a gift from my mother, a former single mom herself, she knew my future social prospects were grim, and 132 channels were likely to be my only interaction for some time) Lacking cable for the 3 year duration of my marriage, I went straight to SciFi and found the most amazing thing: FARSCAPE. I had been intrigued by the promos, and made a point to catch it one Friday night - the rest, they say, is history. I caught on 'bout halfway thru season 1, and soon caught up via various SciFi marathons. Having no babysitting options, my new boyfriend and I enjoyed many a Friday night of homemade dinners, ice cream, and Farscape. Inevitably followed by the ritual smoking of many cigarettes on the front porch, and endless discussion of the aforementioned new Farscape episode.:smokin: Life was good.
Fast forward to April of 2000: Me and previously mentioned boyfriend become live-ins, although he (and I will never forgive him for this ;) ) manages to convince me to move in with HIM. And he has no cable, no satellite. His home isn't even wired for cable! I am expected to once again subject myself to network television after tasting paradise?! Barbarous, isn't it? In the interests of financial conservation for a newer, larger home (lo, and behold, baby #3 is on the way!) we decide to forgo satellite TV for what we believed would be a duration of no more than a year. So long, dear Farscape! Till we meet again!
Sooooo....one year turned into several, and I hid my pain well. (sob) But not so well as I had thought. My darling, darling now-husband presented me with the most thoughtful (if slightly illegal) gift anyone has ever given me. The complete (up to that point anyways) Farscape collection, bootlegged from the internet by his little bro, also a loyal scaper. The years have since brought me the better quality, and legal, Farscape on DVD collection, but I will always treasure those thirty odd cd-r's with the illegible magic marker scrawl. Good times. Good times.
To sum up a long story that should have been short: (hey, I have 4 kids, cut me some slack, I'm a bit lacking in the adult contact department) The family is now in NC, we got DirecTV in September of 2002, and I got my precious Farscape back only to discover to my abject horror: it was being cancelled. Since chancing upon SaveFarscape.com, I have emailed, written, donated, and generally supported various efforts to promote this wonderful phenomenon that has brought us all together, and I am always looking for more to do from my little corner of the universe. Feel free to send any suggestions and/or chores my way. I'll do them with a smile on my face, for all the fun and memories that Farscape has brought me.
So that's my tale. I'm sometimes a little pressed for personal time, but I hope to become a lot more active on the boards here in the future, as everyone I have met so far has been nothing less than encouraging.:aok: Oh yeah, and one more thing: That fourth (and final!) kid I mentioned? She was born Thursday, March 6, 2003. And I named her Aeryn.

Thanks for all the welcome warm fuzzies, I agree with a lot of other former lurkers...losing that posting virginity is hard, but you guys made it easier! As far as finding time to post goes... that's not much of a problem if I club the kids over the head with a heavy blunt object and tie them up in the closet for a while. They're pretty understanding about Mom needing alone time with the computer (har. that makes it sound like I'm doing something dirty, doesn't it?). "No honey, Mom's not being a geek, she's just downloading porn!" Hmmm...which is the lesser of two evils?
I duplicated my reply on another thread as advised (thanks! :aok: ), and I just wanted to add one more thing on AstroEddie's thread here:
I like Stargate SG-1. There. I've said it. I'm not ashamed to admit it. :finger: Wow. I must be gaining message board confidence if I've already worked up the guts to disagree with somebody. I feel so empowered!
Stargate and Farscape belong on SciFi. Scare Tactics and Tremors most definitely do not. They are both a buckets of dren. Thank you for your time and attention. ;)

While you have no doubt seen many many posters here who don't like SG-1 themselves (me included :) ), what makes Scapers a unique breed is that for the most part, we respect others' right to like different things. I don't think anyone has ever criticized someone personally for liking SG-1, even if we may post why we don't like it ourselves. I know several people whose opinions I value highly who love SG-1, so it must be doing something right ;)

Of course I understand other people like Stargate. And no, I don't hate you for it. When I made my comments about thinking the writing was weak on SG-1, I was attempting to show what I thought the differences were between Farscape and SG-1. SG-1 has tacky one liners, and seems to be written along the lines of Hercules or Xena. (Sorry all you Hercules and Xena fans).
I don't care what people watch at all. It's just that what attracted me to Farscape was that I was blown away by the excellent writing. Even some episodes that seemingly start out cheesy (Scratch N' Sniff - saw it last night) actually come off being very artistic and entertaining. The stop action and flashbacks (along with the music) made it a really enjoyable episode. That, and seeing D'Argo cutting a mean rug in the club had me in stitches.
SG-1, on the other hand, sucks and so does anyone who watches it. HAHAHAHA!!! I AM SO KIDDING RIGHT NOW BuDong...... honestly. I have a friend my age (30) that watched Dawson's Creek for the love of God (sorry Dawson lovers) and yes, he and his girlfriend are still my friends. They just don't like what I like. So, no worries BuDong, we're all friends!
