We Won an Aurora Award!

WE WON AN AURORA AWARD!

Of the two ads that I submitted to the Aurora Awards, one of them won a GOLD award. The ad that won is the one that jfranka designed, and was finalized by me and a friend at the Thompson Hill Company. This is the ad that ran in a number of cities to promote viewership for the second half of season 4 episodes. They ran early in February 2003.

Although this is not a head-to-head competition, it is noteworthy that we won a GOLD award.
To quote from the site:
Winners may be awarded a "Platinum Best of Show" or a "Gold Award". The Best of show is the highest honor given. Only about one in ten receive this honor, while about two out of ten receive the Gold Award.

I am convinced that the two significant factors leading to this award was jfranka's words, and the serendipitous discovery of a music track that fit the rhythm of the sentences.

According to the Aurora Awards website, they are still in the judging phase for the 2003 awards, so it appears that their list of winners is not yet final. You can find out all about the Aurora Awards here:

They have sent me an order form for certificates and statues. Certificates cost $15. Unfortunately, if you want the statue, that would cost $115. I'd kind of like to buy one, but I don't know where it could be displayed, as I believe that this belongs to the entire SaveFarscape family.

I think getting the statue would be great. It should be displayed at various Save Farscape tables at conventions to show that we ARE being noticed. Stand it by the cookbooks on display, the scapers working the table will take good care of it.

at $115 a pop I think one statue, to put in the con kit (the main con kit,) would be enough. (unless we vote to get one for all the participants who put it together)
For presenting to Henson et all (and a polite little in your face presentation to Scifi) I think a picture - 8X10, of the scapers responsable for the commercial holding their award would be appropriate, with a letter explaining to Henson and DK what you won the award for. Scifi's letter would be more along BritAngie's suggestion, I think. I believe DK and Henson would find recieving the award for a commercial put together by other people a little inappropriate(despite our enthusiasm for them to share in our delight), but they'd surely love the pic and explanation. Not to mention they (and all the cast and crew) would love to see the statue if we get it to the Burbank convention and Scapercon... would it be available in time for ComicCon where Ben and Fran are appearing on the west coast? If that convention hasnt already started...

Though the photo idea maybe a bit hard to sort as heaps of people were involved in the ad.. the esteemed Grapeshot and Jfranka of course and Deneba and the FWA and others...(if this is the advert I think it is, it needed to be rescued after those involved originally went AWOL from the airing on tv channels side of things.....JFranka did we swap panicked emails on this to try and find those MIA?? :rollin: ) and of course every Scaper who donated money to the Beyond Hope fund.. Do you think we'll all fit in the pic?? :rollin:

I looked on the site and they said statues were $150 a statue. The certificates, however, at $15 are reasonable, and you could have it mounted to a plaque w/ an acrylic plate, and still be quite attractive. I wouldn't waste the effort of sending the real thing to SFC. But sending a formally crafted note to other networks, letting them know about the award and how dedicated to Farscape we are, would be a nice touch.

I like Mreen's idea. As for the photo, it should be of the principles who put the commercial together with a letter stating that it was made possible through the generosity of fans everywhere. Also, at $15 a pop, we could possibly provide extra certificates.

I think so....), certificates for everyone but Skiffy - just a nice pic of as many people as possible holding their award and a certificate, and a "ppppffffftttt" for Skiffy. IMO, we probably don't need to get one each for DK and Brian -- one would certainly hear of it from the other ;) And as Henson is the mother/father/life-giver to Farscape, I think Brian would be the more appropriate person to receive a statue. They could display it along side the bottles of bath salts that our California Scapers made up :D

Hey guys, I was out of action this weekend.

Yes, the statues DO cost $150 rather than $115. (I was so excited that I didn't read the documents very carefully.) I don't need a statue, so don't waste money on it for me. (I can't speak for jfranka. I think he's in the ad business, so he may want one to display for professional reasons.) There were an awful lot of people involved with this particular ad, though. Deneba did all the phone-calling and booked the ad spots. Several other individuals booked additional spots, too. The initial idea for television ads came from kimrb, DaMenace, and beowolf, so they're like the grandparents of this monster. And, of course, special thanks should go to everyone who donated money, without which NONE of this would have happened.

I'd like to say that these ads were a supreme achievement of coordination NATIONWIDE! Most of us had never done anything like this before, and we all had to learn as we went along. Furthermore it was all done with superb cooperation; we all had to trust each other to do their part, although most of us have never met. (I wouldn't know jfranka if he hit me in the face!) One day I hope to meet you all, and we can reminisce about the wild days of the ad campaign!

Grapeshot put it better than I could ever do it. But I'll try to put in my two cents into this.

The award is special to me personally but, more importantly, I hope it helps the cause. The main point in all of this is to get the show back on the air so we can all enjoy it as a whole again.

As for the statue, I am going to buy a statue, but in all honesty, it's for my parents for their "brag room." (Hell, I'm 40 years old, and my parents still have a "brag room." :-) ) I'd rather you guys make donations to saving this show, or any of the other good causes out there. If you do take a donation for a statue, I stand behind what I said before and I think it should go to the Henson Company. And the other suggestion, one to go with the Scapers to Comic Cons and any other future cons.

Like Grapeshot said, this is a collective effort and everyone is part of this. Grapeshot and company did a wonderful job picking the music and editing the thing and basically did all the work to make it possible. But all of us (the Farscape community) had a hand in this.

Now let's get our show back on the air....
