Poll - What to do with the Aurora Award

Ok guys,

By now most of you have found out that our TV commerical crew have won a gold Aurora Award. If not, check out the discussion at http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthreadphp?s=&threadid=12002.

The question that is now arising is what to do with it. When can purchase statues for it for $150 apiece and certificates for $15 apiece. Please answer the poll so we can try to answer this question.

Yup, I'm confused. When I read:
"statue and certifcates for jfranka, grapeshot, and con kits (1 statue/3 certificates); certificate only to Brien Henson"

I thought it was a total of 3 statues and 4 certificates and the "(1 statue/3 certificates)" threw me. Where does the statue go?

It might be less confusing if the fourth choice could be edited. It now reads:

statue and certifcates for jfranka, grapeshot, and con kits (1 statue/3 certificates); certificate only to Brien Henson

Does it mean to say:
One statue (to be given to..., or used for...or used for, then given to.....), and certificates for jfranka, grapeshot, con kits, and Brian Henson ((1 statue, 4 certificates)

Yeah, I got a little confused too. Maybe we should see how much dinero comes in before the final decision is made as to whom should receive what. (As far as the statues goes, I mean---the certificates are inexpensive.)

OK I'm with everyone else, by my math/understanding, 3, 4, and 6 are exactly the same thing... maybe I'm just reading wrong...

1) Certificates only for jfranka, grapeshot, con kits
(3 certificates)

2) Certificates only for jfranka, grapeshot, Brien Henson, con kits
(4 certificates)

3) Statue and certificates for jfranka and grapeshot + certificates for Brien Henson and the con kits
(2 statues + 4 certificates)

4) Statue and certifcates for jfranka, grapeshot, and con kits (1 statue/3 certificates); certificate only to Brien Henson
(1 statue + 4 certificates)

5) Statue and certificates to jfranka , grapeshot, and con kits; statue for Brien Henson
(2 statues + 3 certificates)

6) Statue and certificates for jfranka, grapeshot, con kits and Brien Henson
(4 statues + 4 certificates)

7) Statue and certificates for jfranka, grapeshot, and con kits; statues for both Brien Henson and David Kemper
(5 statues + 3 certificates)

I'm curious as to what type of "award" is it when the winner has to pay for the actual statue that he "won"? The winners even have to pay for the certificates. Grapeshot mentioned in the original thread that he/she (sorry, not sure) wasn't interested in a statue. If jfranka (because he's in the adv industry) wants one "for the shelf" that's fine by him. But I think certificates would be just fine, all around. One each for jfranka, grapeshot, Henson, Kemper and the Con Kit (5 certs... not listed as an option in the poll, so I voted for 4 certs). I think, at $150 per statue, we're better served using our financial resources in other avenues.

DoA is probably right in her assesment, except why the differences between the plural certificates and the singular statue, then just to muddle things up later there are plural statues with plural certificates, me thinks there may have been a typo, hope Jeffrab clears this up...

Of course we could get donations and then see what can be bought...

I see the biggest confusion is what I'm meaning to go into the con kits. When you see "con kits (1 statue, 3 certificates)", that pertains ONLY to the con kits. I figured it would be a good idea for multiple copies of the certificate to go around to the various cons.

And no Frunium, 3,4,&6 are not the same. Here's the break down by the numbers:

Option
1)5 certificates (that's one each for jfranka and grapeshot and 3 for the con kits) = $75
2)6 certificates = $90
3)2 statues, 6 certificates = $390
4)3 statues, 6 certificates = $540
5)4 statues, 5 certificates = $675
6)4 statues, 6 certificates = $690
7)5 statues, 5 certificates = $825
8)3 statues, 7 certificates = $555
9)5 statues, 7 certificates = $855

trubador, that's a good point about these awards. The only real value that I can determine is that it gives an opportunity for more publicity. It's just ONE more thing to put on our SaveFarscape resume and to add to our Media Kit. I agree, that I don't need a statue. I'm not even so sure that it's such a good idea to send one to Henson. It would be nice to put one in the traveling Con kit, though.

Why pay $15 each for multiple certificates? Can't one be copied and framed for cons? Zerox, or scan and print, anyone? Do they come framed, or are they just pieces of paper (which would have to be protected in some way, like being framed or laminated)? (This business of having winners pay for the prize reminds me of those "whose who" books where they offer to list you so that then you can buy one for over a hundred dollars.)
How about contributing some of this money to the tv sponsorship ad to run on Scifi during Farscape-that is highly likely to gain large numbers of new members to this board?

Just a guess, but I expect that the certificates are copyrighted to avoid this $ saving behavior.

Um, a win is a win--the certificate just says that you won. With or without the "official" certificate, you've still won, and have the right to say so. What's to copyright? Or, in the event that exact copies are somehow not legal, just paraphrase the information - It's still the same information, and you have a right to disseminate it.

As for copies of the certificate, your guess is as good as mine. I had assumed you couldn't or shouldn't. Hence the thought for multiple copies. Does anybody know?

OK. I voted for option 8 (next to last), but now after reading the thread and realizing how frelling expensive those statues are, I'd like to revote also.

grapeshot has already said she doesn't need a statue. I agree that jfranka should get one if he wants. And having been in Henson's NYC 'trophy room', I think a certificate is adequate to share the joy. Even though it was their show, they had nothing to do with creating the ad.

That just leaves the cons. I think a statue and would be a nice attention getter, but at $150!!! My suggestion, if he agrees, is to get jfranka a statue and certificate, and put the statue in with the Travelling Con Display. He would get he statue back whenever he wants it, or when we no longer need the TCD.
