Court TV and TLN Set to Cover Spike TV/Spike Lee Case

June 29, 2003

With the injunction issued by Spike Lee against Viacom's usage of the word 'spike' in Spike TV the stage was set for trouble.

Now it appears as though Court TV has gained the rights to cover this story as well when they begin their live coverage of this story on Wednesday at 5pm EST. The following lineup schedule was issued by the TLN (The LeBron Network):

"Wednesday at 5 p.m. - Court TV (Simulcast): Live coverage of Spike Lee's lawsuit against Viacom Inc., over plans to rename its TNN cable channel Spike TV. During breaks in the action, LeBron James talks about how he has created a strategy to prevent ESPN from trying to rename one of its many channels after him."

They were quick to snap that one up weren't they? Of course with some of the money amounts I've seen thrown around, this may all fizzle out and become a big nothing. Just thought I would add this segment from TV Guide's "Ask Matt"

Question: When you hear Spike TV, do you think of Spike Lee? How big is this guy's ego to think that when people hear that, they assume he is involved? I would think of Spike from Buffy first! — Angie

Matt: Isn't this the wackiest story ever? First off, what an incredibly stupid name for a lowbrow so-called "guy's" network. Secondly, what a diva Spike Lee is. I thought his reasoning was inane, but then, so was this rebranding. What next, "Matt TV," the network for sensitive guys with taste?

I'd watch Matt TV. For one thing, I can guarantee Farscape would be on it....:smokin:
