Hmmm... (32%-14%)*639 = 115 votes behind the Simpsons

I can confirm that deleting cookies lets you vote many times a day. (I've done somewhere around 20 today ) I usually delete cookies then reload the vote page. But keep in mind that deleting cookies will wipe out "remembered" usernames for boards such as these and you will have to retype them when you return to this board to be logged in.

For those in need of knowing how to delete cookies:
Under the "tools" menu, select internet options,
select the "General" tab and hit the "Delete Cookies" Button.
These instructions for IE or IE based browsers. Not sure for Netscape.

Something is VERY, VERY wrong here.

Farscape leads the Favorite Series pack with ***68%*** of the vote. The most telling thing of that number is that the total number of votes is now already 2090!

Ok, is somebody here doing a program to stuff the ballot box????? If you are cease and desist NOW!!!

You are now destroying the very reason we've been doing this poll in the first place: to get attention to Farscape and show that we have a strong fan following. And we have done so very well WITHOUT having to resort to ballot box stuffing. At this point the BBC is going to recognize that for what it is and this little demonstration of ours is OVER. The reason I think this poll is so important (and the reason why it is important to win without cheating), is because every now and then, this BBC website sends out a mass mailing to everyone on Yahoo that has requested new alerts for Farscape. And they have repeatedly mentioned that Farscape is winning that particular poll and will be tough to beat. Great publicity.

This gets Farscape in the news. The information is forwarded to many people who might not be aware of Farscape's popularity and/or dedicated fan base.

If we win by cheating, we still win the poll but you can bet your bottom dollar that we won't get our free publicity. Which is the main reason I think it is worthwhile to vote on this poll.

No, the BBC will not sponsor Season 5, but they do air Farscape. And while I am hopeful they won't condemn all Farscape fans for the actions of a few, I don't think this has left any kind of good impression on them at all.

I am seriously thinking that we should write a letter to whoever runs this poll, explaining that the majority of Farscape fans would prefer to win these types of polls honestly.

What the FRELL!!! Who the heck is cheating. Knock it off...NOW. When someone cheats it ruins the fun, it removes the challenge, and it damages the integrity and reputation for all of us. It appears that someone has hijacked the Favorite TV show poll in favour of Farscape.
As a fan of the show, and someone who has participated, fairly, in this poll in the past, I would like to apologise for this blatant cheating.
The fans of the show, and of the BBC's support of it, feel very strongly that this kind of behaviour is wrong and would like to disassociate themselves from it.
We hope the poll returns next week, with Farscape included, and that there be no repeat of this instance of cheating.

You mean, "punkscaper" that it means nothing to YOU or perhaps even to BBC. But it means a lot to me and to the many scapers who have been voting honestly all along.

Also, it presents the name of Farscape to people who may not be aware of how many people think it's a great show.

The question is, how much stock in this poll will anyone take if it's not even fun to look at. If Farscape wins by 60% every single week, especially through cheating, who will even bother to look at it.

The way I see it, about 2000 people or even more have been voting every week on average. Deduct us, Farscape voters, and the result is how many people see the name of Farscape as the number one favorite TV show every week. Especially if they tell others obout it too.

Some people do care about this poll, myself included.

Integrity makes a huge difference, in people's perceptions of you and your cause.

I have a question. I've been away for over 2 weeks and was wondering how the polls were going. I come back to find pages of discussion about cheating. Is there hard evidence that someone or lots of people are "stuffing" the ballot boxes or are there just a lot of new voters who like Farscape? I too vote once daily and have done so since the beginning of this poll. In that time period I've also been asking for Ben Browder and Claudia Black to be added to the Celebs list but so far no luck.

What I want to know I guess is if there is firm evidence that someone is 'fixing' the voting or is this just an educated guess based on the numbers?

Yeah, somebody is cheating. Last week finished off with about 2400 votes, a little above average but perfectly normal. By Sunday morning we were ALREADY at 2000 votes. Yeah, I smell a VERY large rat here.

It is an educated guess, based on analysis of the numbers and experience.

In less than 24 hours a poll that normally gets about 2500 votes all week acquired 642 votes - apparently all for Farscape.

In the same 24 hours, another poll on which we had just recently started voting, the poll numbers jumped 3164 votes. Again, apparently all for Farscape. In fact the poll voting numbers doubled.

Neither am I ... I too have dropped a note to BBC about my voting habits.
Boy that person / or persons must have nothing else to do. Wouldn't you have to delete all your cookies each time for it to register that you hadn't voted that day? Otherwise you run the risk of the site being able to readily identify your duplicity. Plus the voting isn't simple in that I've noticed lately that you have to vote twice to get it to register at all as it jumps back to the poll the first time. Maybe those double votes caused by a glitch in their system is suddenly registering twice? :dunno: stranger things have happened.

We get to vote once a day on each poll. I think the poll is set up that if you vote a second time, it doesn't register your vote.

Just so you know, Farscape fans have managed to win the 'Favourite TV Programme' consistently (and ethically) for the last 6 months. Something to be proud of!

Hopefully, next week we will not run into the same problems and will be able to return to winning honestly.

I was convinced that it would have only taken a week, or at the most two, for us to have John and Aeryn winning on the 'Favourite Sci Fi Character' poll. I am really disappointed that I am not going to be able to watch us overtake the other characters. (Not that I don't love Buffy and Gandalf and Spike - I do! - but I think that John and Aeryn deserve their time in the sun too....)

It's trivial to write a program to do it - you could whip something up that simulates user interaction and have it use a few thousand proxy servers. Of course, this sort of thing is generally frowned upon and is often considered a 'denial of service attack'.

Yesterday they had to include Ben or Claudia because one of them had the biggest number of nominations . Why do you think they didn't do it ? And how did you determine that? The BBC doesn't post the number of requests for nominations for the Celebrity poll. If you're looking at the poll for the favorite SciFi character, that poll is totally separate and has no bearing on the Celebrity poll.

Nothing's wrong with the poll per se. Just as there was nothing wrong with the other polls last week per se.

What IS wrong is someone thinks it's fun to program a ballot stuffing program in their computer and set it loose on various polls to render them of no value at all on showing the true pulse of the viewers.

Yes, you'll say, didn't anyway, but that isn't ENTIRELY true. Networks and advertisers DO look at people who ACTUALLY make an effort to be seen and heard, simply because they generally tend to be more likely to BUY the stuff that advertisers show to support a show.
So yes, these polls REALLY don't mean anything, but on the other hand it does mean to the BBC and it's adveritsers that hey, there are a lot of people out there for these shows that can be targeted for advertising. And in network television, that is the bottom line.

I have to admit, it does seem as though the BBC doesn't want Claudia or Ben on the celebrity list. We've been asking for a very long time, and I'm sure they get a lot af requests to add them considering how many of us have continued to ask week after week.

I'm not saying we should quit asking, just that I am thinking that they may never be listed no matter how many times we ask, due to some BBC politics, or fear of having too much Farscape on their polls.

Hey Sweetpea Aeryn! Nice you could join us again.

Last week it appeared as though an individual who really liked Farscape (and who can blame them!) was stuffing the ballot boxes in favour of our favourite show. They were doing this in two polls. "What is your favourite TV programme?" and "Who is you favourite Sci Fi Character?" (which we had just recently started voting on).

This was noted by several of us, and a conversation ensued about why this was a problem. (Not because we thought the BBC was single handedly going to bring back Farscape based on poll results, but because Farscape got press - good press - whenever the BBC sent out a press release about the results.)

Some of us were disturbed enough by this unethical behaviour that we stopped voting in the polls, AND sent messages to the BBC disassociating ourselves from the shenanigans.

Anyway, the favourite show poll reset on Saturday, but the Favourite Sci Fi Character poll does not reset so the lopsided numbers remain and I (personally) don't vote on that poll anymore.

Now, it appears as tho someone is 'stuffing the ballot box' on the Celebrity Poll. The one where we have been trying (forever it seems like) to get either Ben or Claudia on that poll.

While I do recognise the frustration factor that might be driving this behaviour I feel this is detrimental to the campaign. It just doesn't leave a good impression of Farscape and the fans, and one of the main reasons I like working on this campaign so much, is that we don't leave bad impressions.

We are Geek Chic! And that means smart, funny, determined and ethical (at least that is what is means to me).

Hopefully that has explained the situation.
