View Full Version : Would you want 3 more seasons if.....

If there was some way to bring the show back for 3 more seasons BUT the changes I mentioned below or something similiar had to be instituted would you rather the show stay dead at 4 years and have your good memories of Farscape being one of the best scifi shows ever or would anyone just rather have more Farscape in any form for 3 more years?

1. Aeryn falls in love with Scorpius or Ryhgel
2. D'Argo leaves
3. The crew become pirates and scavenge their way thru the universe instead of worrying about peacekeepers, scarens and wormholes
4. The show replaces music soundtrack with rock and roll music.

Now before you decide how ridiculous this sounds it is possible because I have used another successful show as a model for these type of wholesale changes. Bear in mind there is a possibility you may end up hating the show after 7 years. I have reedited this post so hopefully it's easier to understsand now, hopefully..

No offense, but this poll doesn't even deserve an answer. Farscape is Farscape because of charactors, the plot lines, etc all make sense and grow.
Warning: Spoilers below.

If Aeryn falls in love with Scorpy there would be a plot line that will make so it would make sense. But it would take a whole bunch of episodes. Look how long it took for Aeryn let her feeling for John be exposed to John.
D'argo leaves? Could be. If he finds a reason why. If there is a legitimate reason why the charactor would feel that it was important enough to leave his closest friends.
As for the crew becoming scavangers or pirates, that's a possiblity. Face it, in the middle of the second season, who would think that John & Company would become bank robbers?!!
Yet they did but, IT MADE SENSE! And they are affected by the consequence of their actions.
While watching the first five episodes ever of Farscape, who'd thought that John would use a Neutron Bomb? Yet in four years, John did it. And it made sense. Again, he feels the consequesnce of his actions.
Music from today? Hell, we had a Chuck Jones episode, an video game episode, an episode that took place almost exclusivly on an ice floe, (in which D'argo becomes a woman,) an episode about the crew going back into time, an episode inside John's head where things got weirder and weirder, and it all made sense. It worked.
This is Farscape. This is why it is miles ahead of other shows. The things you list sound like drastic changes, but, if handled the same way Farscape has always, handled changes before: i.e. The death of Zhan, the change of Crais from foe to friend, (and almost the same of Scorpy,) the split and death of John, the introduction of Sikozu, Noranti, and even Chiana, it will work!! Farscape changes all the time. What happens in episode seven affects what happens in episode fourty seven.
This is why this poll doesn't even count. If in season one, someone told me that Farscape would go for a guarenteed four years, but: Aeryn is pregnant, Zhan left, D'ago stops looking for his son, Crais becomes an ally, Rygel stops trying to betray the Moyans, John does go home but decides to not to stay, would I still want it? The way it was done? Hell ya!

I think the point of the poll is: What if someone comes in and says they have the money to produce the show, but they want to add there own touch to it instead of leaving it the way it is. For example, Howard Stern decides he will put up the money for a 5th season, but only if the entire cast is replaced by midget lesbian mudwrestlers. Just a guess...

Selena,
believe me. With the right amount of money, you can get all kinds of actors... :)

I would have to say no then. My initial reaction was also "huh,?" but I see your point. Would you want Farscape back if it were changed significantly. Generic_screenname's comments are illustrative of one (hopefully rare) possibility of Farscape returning. What the question boils down to is, Would you want Farscape back if it sucked? If someone agreed to buy and produce Farscape, but changed all the things that make Farscape worthy of a website and dedicated following such as this, then it wouldn't be Farscape. I don't just want a show back that is called Farscape and has characters with the same names. I want the full calorie caffeinated non-diet version of Farscape with all its buttery goodness, not some focus-group approved committee's patchwork of marketing targets. What's the point otherwise? We won't really have gotten our show back, just something with the same name.

Sorry if I've offended people with my post. That was not my intent.
I guess I misunderstood the poll. For me Farscape has gone through so many changes that the senerios that were given were not out of the rhelm of possiblities for me. However, if somebody comes in to make sweeping changes to make Farscape more, well, "demographically correct," without any plot lines explaining everything, that would be bad.
Didn't that happen between seasons three and four? I seem to remember hearing/reading that DK didn't go in the direction he wanted to in the first four episodes of season four because TPTB from Sci-Fi wanted him to re-introduce the charactors and add a sexy babe, etc. Even though he followed orders, the fourth season was just as good as the rest. I still like "Crichton Kicks" a lot. Small cast, but it still worked.
I think that if someone tried to come in to make those kind of sweeping changes without the usual Farscape way of getting there, they wouldn't succede. They'd never get by DK, Rocke, Ben, Claudia, Brian, and all the other people who poured their heart and soul into it.

Well its no secret that Andromeda was a great show until they fired their head writer - then it blew chunks - so I say if Farscape kept the same creative team, I'd be OK with those changes - if they did away with the creative team I wouldn't, unless Crighton was naked, then I'd forgive almost anything.

Oh poor Andromeda I to mourn for thee. It really was a promising show though wasn't it. Something to watch instead of boobyprize. Then it got turned into crap of “Herculean” proportions....

I agree with the second option. After watching Startrek gradually rot into the abomination it is today I'll have to say a beautiful corpse is better than a freakish puss leaking, maggot infested, mutant zombie that walks the earth in search of innocent time slots to devour.

Yup - I think the point is, if someone said "We'll bring Farscape back for 3 more seasons, but we're firing DK and Rockne and Froon and co. and replacing them with the current writing team from 'Andromeda' and/or 'Enterprise'!" then I'd be the first person to vote for a swift and merciful death with dignity (for the show, or for me, whatever :D).

I've posted that article in it's entirety here - http://www.savefarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18124
and made it available as a downloadable PDF.

Hmmm, I remember DK saying in SFX magazine that Michael Jackson said to him "If you make it like Stargate, everyone will lovel it!"

Man I am so glad I am not the only one that feels that way about it. That makes me alittle happyer but I do wish I didn't have to feel that way. It was a promising show.

BTW: I think the changes could work except the Aeryn/Scorpy ship Idea.

Jfranka, everything you said except, I wish they never made Coup By Clam, and instead made an episode dealing with John having a nice little 'talk' with Stark about selling his dead brother's memories to a game company without permission from either John.

WitchDoctor, you said "I want the full calorie caffeinated non-diet version of Farscape with all its buttery goodness."

Hear, hear, indeed! I like that way of describing what I want...all that buttery goodness!*grin*

JFranka, you have a good point..."The things you list sound like drastic changes, but, if handled the same way Farscape has always handled changes before..." then it works.

All too often, with so many things, we see the suits come in, saying "yeah, you got a good product, but it would be better if...." and the next thing you know, it is ruined. So, I am not surprised this question has come up.

So, for me, it would be a "yes, BUT..." response to your poll, Frellyou. Thanks for asking.

Fiona

I can just imagine that conversion, Spark, John and John's gun.

Anyway, it hinted in that episode that game was very, very popular, I can see it now, the crew of Moya go down to an alien world and stubble upon a Sci-fi Convention deticated to THEM, the convention is full of serveral types of alien species and they are ALL geeks and nerds.

Alien geeks and nerds.

Think Dragoncon on acid. :rollin:

I can see John screaming, "Oh God!! Now I know how William Shatner feels like!!"

It could only work on Farscape and be believable, the show is that great.

Actually, I can see the Jim Hansen company making an episode like that as a thank you to all the loyal support from the many Farscape fans out here. :D

We all have pretty good idea of how John would react to this. But how would the rest of the crew of Moya react?

Stark won't stay dead for long.

Anyway, can you imagine the result of the Moya Crew being the judges of the Cosplay Contest.
