Okay I was just wondering if it is just my DVD player or does anyone else occasionally have trouble with the sound/vision? Today I was watching s1 and the sound and vision would pause for a couple of seconds, then play, then pause, etc etc. I hope that it is the DVD player (and not the cherished DVD's) that have the problem. Is it something to do with the DVD's being multi-layer or is my DVD player just broken?

I wouldn't know heaps but I would have to assume that its just ur DVD player. I watch S1 all the time and it never pauses or anything of the such. I trust that u would have taken extremely good care of the discs so it would jus be the player. Most DVDs are multi-layered anyway so that should not have anything to do with it. I think u should see if it does this with other DVDs and obviously if it does, then get it checked out.

Sometimes some (for sure not all) of my (FS) DVDs pauses, very briefly for maybe like 1/10 of a second (1x only) and that's is due to the multilayer switch but this doesn't happen often. My guess is that it could also be hardware related, maybe newer/better DVD players can buffer better f.e.
"The laser of your DVD player has to re-focus to read from the other layer which can expose itself in a slight pause."
Again this doesn't happen often to me (almost all of my DVDs, FS or not, just play without the very brief pause) but I know what you mean, I think.
EDIT: rereading your post I must add that the part of "pause for a couple of seconds, then play, then pause, etc etc." sounds that it's happening too much & too long. The very few times I have it it really pauses certainly not more than half a second and this happens only 1x, not multiple times!

I also agree that it must be your DVD player, and not the FS DVD's.
I [as well as my friends] have watched s1 and s2 [and any other DVD for that matter] and never experienced this problem
How old is your player?

Usually when someone is watching a DVD, and they see a momentary pause, it's because the player has finished reading one layer, and has switched to the second layer. The pausing is a design flaw - the player should have a deep enough FIFO to avoid that.
Anyway, most season 1 DVDs are single layer. (At least the ones in the UK are) So this should never happen.
Do you see the picture turning 'blocky'? This could be a problem with the disk, such as a production problem, or is the surface scratched?

Thanks all for your comments, the DVD player is a communal one and I will be buying a combination VCR/DVD player as soon as I can afford it!! Anyone got any suggestions as to what brand would be good to buy?? I have a Philips TV (AV Stereo) and want the VCR part to have g-code. I'm not the best techie so your advice has been (and is) greatly appreciated!!
