EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE!!!
My beautifulwonderfulsexybestfriendinthewholeworld Bailey went BACK to the Farscape panel and talked to Virginia Hey about the series. And Virginia told her that word had come down yesterday from the producers that Farscape was coming back!!!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
She didn't say exactly what form it would take, whether series or miniseries or movie, because the producers apparently haven't said anything further! But she did say 100% that it was coming back!
Viva La Farscape!
Eek!
Anyone else hear this?

I'm not sure what to think about this.
Seems strange that Virginia would leak it.
edited to add: Seems strange it would leak the day after they had nothing to say. Hmmm.
I don't know TWoP or stele3 who posted it.

And we all know by now that nothing is ever "100%" in Hollywood.
The same poster had previously said that the above friend isn't a Scaper herself (despite an active recruitment program), so it's possible that she may have misunderstood. But still...
I was just hoping that some of you folks with your fingers more firmly on the pulse of the campaign than I, might have something to say about this.
Edited to add: TWoP is Television Without Pity. Here's a link to the Farscape Forum (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/ijsbb/forum.cgi?action=list&forum=486&idtopic=2902743&fromdays=20&g=2943803#2943803). A general TV fan site where we TWoPing Scapers have been running ads to advertise the show and the re-runs. We just did a lovely one encouraging people to tune into the Season 4 re-runs and enjoy "The Season of Crichton's Ass," as we call it. :)

Well that would not be me, you'll need someone closer to the sources than I. :rollin:

Have we ever *really* doubted that the show would come back? In some form, at some point? There's no way anyone on the creative team was going to give up without a big fight -- remember DK promising us streetcorner mime if that's what it took?
We don't know any more than we did three months ago, but the situation right now is particularly fluid. The Henson family is in the middle of regaining control of the company, and USA Networks is on the auction block along with all its assets (including the back 88).
I think it's entirely possible that the Hensons are working hard, as they always said they were, to keep Farscape going. The fact is that we don't know exactly what they're doing, and they cannot tell us, because those sorts of negotiations are fluid and unpredictable, and frankly unreliable even after the ink is dry. We're better off not knowing, frankly, because premature exposure of that sort of sensitive dealing can mess it up big-time.
So for me, this isn't news. Farscape's coming back. The big questions are when, and how, and where, and for how long.
Those questions can be answered by us, the fans, by continuing to support the show and its producers, by showing that there's an audience.
Just my 2 krindars. *g*

Cofax has nailed it, IMO. It's never been a question (in my mind at least) about "if", just "when" and "how." And this rumor (because that's still all it is, no offense intended :) ) doesn't change that. We still don't know "when" or "how." But I think we can be pretty sure *something* is happening in the background. Patience, grasshopper, patience. :meditate:
Although I can't resist this ...
Seems strange that Virginia would leak it.It would seem strange to me if anyone *other* than Virginia would leak it :D

I think the news that the Henson Company was "committed to bringing Farscape back" as Ben said during the panel was news to Virginia. I talked to her a little the day after and she was still excited by what Ben had said and to her it MEANT that the show was coming back, and she's right in that sense. It is coming back, we just don't know at this point when or exactly how.

Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed, but it's still just in rumor status..and I don't know anything more, either. :)
I kinda hope when it happens that DK et al will be able to drop the announcement on us and not have their thunder stolen by rumors.

Hiya, all. Thanks to True Myth for spreading the news! I'm stele3, the poster at TWoP that reported the above info. I keep tapping onto the "Save Farscape" main page to see if they've got anything else to add to the scoop, but so far, no one but me has been reporting the return of "Farscape" (I feel so special). So I thought I'd drop in here and see if any of you could validate the info.
Has anyone heard anything further from any other websites? Does anyone know how/when?
jadeshand

Hi stele3 - you haven't found anything on the front page of this site because nothing has been confirmed by TPTB. If you will read my post above, I think you will see why Virginia was so excited.
As cofax said Farscape is coming back, but we don't know how and we don't know when and we don't know in what form. What we do know at this point is that the Henson family is COMMITTED to bringing the show back and we can believe that they are doing everything in their power to make that happen.
I don't believe it, seriously.

And this is only the begining. ScaperCon will soon follow, with WorldCon and Dragon*Con just behind it. There is some excellent momentum going on right now, and we need to keep it going.
Just keep telling everyone about how great a show it is. And in the words of MST-3K, "Keep Spreading the Tapes".

*deep breaths, deep breaths*
Ak! I'm desparately trying to prepare for the California Bar Exam, which I take in one week and some change. And all these rumors, all this "news!" Couldn't all these cons and all these rumors have happened a month ago? Or in a month from now?? How am I ever supposed to pass the bar if I keep hitting the "refresh" button to see if there's anything new reported?!?!?!!
Ak!!!!!!
*pant pant*
-- jeeno (a relative newbie to the show)
PS: Oh, and guess who has all the luck? I currently live in Chicago, but I'm moving to California on Friday so I can take the bar. So I had to miss Comic Con, and I'll have to miss Scaper Con too!!

Good luck with the bar! I remember it well. It's only 2 days long in Va, but I hope to never have to take another one again! I ran out of time studying, and decided to punt on federal procedure (only took one class in it my first year and never did like it) and didn't study it at all. Of course, one of the essay questions was on procedure. Part (a) asked for the outcome if the case were brought in state court, and part (b) asked for the outcome if it were brought in federal court. I answered part (a) with little trouble, but for (b) I just wrote "see part (a)" and moved on to the next question! :rollin: (I probably got partial credit for that answer, too!)
OK, sorry for the OT ... back to your regularly scheduled riot ...

I too remember the anxiety of the bar (only two days for me as well, no practical exam third day). Though I actually took the bar in two different states so I had to go through the ordeal twice.
I remember someone told me a story about the California Bar and how during one of the exam days an applicant had a heart attack. The other applicants stopped their exam to help him and saved his life, got him medical attention. Then they asked the proctors if they could have more time. The answer . . . No. No more time. Who knows if it is true, but it sure sounds about right.
Good luck. I think I obsessed a little too much the first time, I even went over all the released written questions from former bar exams and made a chart showing what questions were asked each year, looking for some kind of pattern. And I became incredibly crusty. Every time my husband would come into the room where I was studying I would yell at him and tell him to go away. Oh, best thing I ever did was have a friend who was a massage therapist come to the test site during the lunch break and give me a shoulder massage. It sure helped release the tension.

She says she absolutely cannot lie (that's refreshing in this day and age) an often has had a hard time not spoiling things, so, no harm inteneded, she just spoke what she felt was the truth.
I agree with all, it's only a matter of when...it will take time, though. But we know now that our efforts WORK.
What Jadeshand said...rumors do not appear on the front page of Save Farscape. If you DO NOT see something there, that is as much a statement as what you DO see there. The Farscape community have worked hard and with sincere faith and hope -- you all deserve nothing but the truth whenever we can provide it! :aok:

Yeah, that's the predicament I'm in -- this is the second state in which I've participated in this foolishness. Took the IL bar 2 years ago. It's somewhat easier the 2nd time around, but it's still awful!!!
Thanks for all the support, everyone!
What a great post-bar exam present it would be to wake up on August 1 (the first day after the bar), log in here, and discover that Henson has news for us!!!!!!!!

Why would Virginia leak something? I don't know. She seems to be really good at keeping secrets. Two of the three times that I've seen her have been before big Zhaan moments (one the week before Zhaan's death in SIW2 and the other a few weeks before she shows up at the end of JQ). She did a very good job of keeping quiet about them. But, Ginny is devoted to the fans, and probably wanted to give them some kind of hope.

I thought she didn't even know about her death. She kept thinking that it was just some plot point that would be rectified next ep. In all the interviews I've seen, she was just as shocked as anyone when she found out Zhaan wasn't coming back..and I thought I read somewhere that it was weeks after that had already been filmed....?
Could be confused though.
Hope...that seems to be running in vast quantities these days. :D

Hey, did anyone notice that earlier in that thread on the TWoP forums, someone mentioned that they'd called Toy Vault about Farscape toys, and Toy Vault said a reissue of the figures was being held up because Henson was negotiating to bring the show back?

I don't think any future incarnations of Zhaan would require her shaving her head again, as they now have the prosthetics and stuff to cover her hair (from John Quicote and Unrealised Realities). Eyebrows are actually not all that difficult to cover. They use a special wax that is made just for that purpose to smooth them out for coverage with makeup. On a daily basis this might take a long time and even pull the hair out during removal, but now and then it's not a problem.
Ginny is good at keeping a secret so long as you don't ask her directly about whatever she is skeeping a secret! Cause then, she really hates to tell a lie. she had to let a secret go in NYC when someone asked her a question (about being nekkid for a scene).

Wayne said the same thing, but he also mentioned that they had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. I think all of them were referring to Ben's comment that Henson is committed to bringing back Farscape. We already knew that since before the Saturns, but I remember how exilerated I was after reading Brian Henson's comments on how Farscape needs and will get the ending it deserves right after they bought back the JHC :bounce: :bounce:
So for me, what Ben said was just a confirmation of what I had heard before, but for them it was huge news!
Either way, as others have said: Nothing's changed :) They're working as hard and harder on getting the show back as we are, but we can make their lifes a hell of a lot easier by providing them with proof of the fan-base every show needs :) So lets go and hook more people :bounce: :bounce:

Okay.......I clearly recall DK saying it's not "if".....it's "WHEN". So quit musing whether or not what's what, and send some letters to the honchos that have the control.
Hey guys,
in reference to some earlier comments about Virginia Hey and makeup toxicity. I have read a few interviews by Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (Mystique in the X-men movies) and she said that the makeup was much easier to handle in the recent movie as it was made less toxic and she did not get sick like she apparently did in the first X-Men movie.
Check it out at
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/04/25/earlyshow/leisure/celebspot/main551121.shtml
Now I know these are different shades of blue but is it possible that a less toxic formulation could be used for Virginia Hey? If someone sees her at a Con anytime soon I want them to ask her this.
I miss my Zhaan...
edited to include: just read an earlier comment. For those of you who don't know, according to a interview by DK I believe, Stark took off because Paul Goddard had a previous acting commitment and it was just a way to let him out of the show for this other acting job.

Mayby it was Matrix reloaded? Is he in that one as well, or only the original?
no, I don't think he is in any of the martrix sequels. He mentioned that he was glad that he wasn't as it freed him up for more FS. He was always scheduled to return after season 3 I believe, but it kept being put off.
Apparently he does a lot of theatre so I imagine it was a play.

Better cosmetics? Cool.
On one hand, bringing back Zhaan would be a tough thing to do in terms of making it believable.
On the other hand, if they can come up with cosmetics that won't harm sweet Virginia, then I'd be willing to suspend my disbelief to a higher level (say a level of disbelief required to watch SG1).

I wondered if she, meaning Zhaan, could've evolved to an even higher level spiritual being because of her sacrifice for the others. The goddess would've granted her this evolved status, and she could be a different color and have hair. She would be more evolved than any other Delvian. I'm thinking white, pink, or pale green. Of course, I still love blue. Anyone?

I'll cheer to that! Ginny is so amazing and she put so much of herself into Zhaan. She could pull off any new color or costume. She will have to have a very powerful presence though. No more mommying. Others will actually feel her powerfulness and her peacefulness. Sort of like the wizards and sorceresses of LOTR, or the Jedi. I absolutely loved it when she was in that catsuit in LG&M. Of couse that was supposed to look evil.

I wondered if she, meaning Zhaan, could've evolved to an even higher level spiritual being because of her sacrifice for the others. The goddess would've granted her this evolved status, and she could be a different color and have hair.
Also, plants can be cloned, from their cells, but then take on different colors based on nutrients and light (hydrangeas' flowers + PH, varieties with"gold" colored leaves are green in shade, drought changes leaf colors)
so Ginny could come back without toxic makeup for sure!
Didn't she spew a bunch of seeds around the ship when they were starving?

I could swing Zhaan any way the creators feel comfortable bringing her back, but you know, I have to add that I respect the creators for "killing" Zhaan off in the fashion they did.
Takes guts to remove a major character that way. Most writers would play it safe and not make it a brutal reality.
Sad as I was to see her go, I appreciated that most shows would have done the "magic pill" solution. "Oh look! I've discovered a magic pill and I'm cured now! So my sacrifice to save another cost me nothing! Yay!" Instead, Farscape made you really FEEL the sacrifice. It cost something for Zhaan to do what she did. And as others have pointed out, it cost the crew. They sort of lost their mother figure.
And I could also swing Virginia coming back as another regular/recurring character instead of/in addition to Zhaan. After all, Noranti first appeared in another role...
Stacie
hey guys,
I think we hijacked this into a Zhaan come back board!
I would like to see Ginny come back more than anyone, but I think that she would have to come back blue, otherwise they would have brought her back already.
Ricky during the panel at comic con even mentioned something about how FS lost a lot when Zhaan left. Everything I have read so far indicates that the writers, DK, etc. have not written her into future episodes as a regular, or even semi-regular character, and they had already outlined the 5th season. So my gut instinct (which could be woefully wrong) tells me that they feel the character shouldn't change. They didn't want her to go in the first place. At the same time she is adamant that she will not come back as a regular character due to makeup.
I don't know if they have considered the new, less-toxic formulation of the blue makeup. I would like to know if she would consider returning if the makeup was less toxic. Although we must keep in mind that while some of the toxicity is a result of the pigment, some is also due to the smothering of the skin.
I would think that with this hiatus and everyone starting off from scratch in a sense, it is an opportune time for everyone to change their minds.
So once we finish with the savefarscape campaign let's start on a savezhaan campaign. And would someone please ask her about this new makeup when they see her at a con!
Kerlin
07-21-2003, 09:09 PM

And do let's remember that not everyone, not by a long shot, holds that same opinion.

well, you know quite a few people became fans after Zhaan was already gone. Just think-there are people for whom Chiana was always a permanent member of the crew. :)
Hey Kerlin,
I stand corrected. Wayne did say that. Sorry, I am not an expert, and please don't take what I say as gospel. These are just my impressions of why she hasn't come back yet. Zhaan was really popular and I thought she would definitely have been back by now. But after reading some interviews I have just gotten the impression that it isn't a matter of desire on anyone's part (i.e. the writers/producers/Virginia) that Zhaan stay. So something else must be keeping her off the show. From what Virginia says, it seems to be the makeup.
I didn't start watching until the beginning of the third season when she died, and it was this event in particular that hooked me on FS.

So something else must be keeping her off the show. From what Virginia says, it seems to be the makeup. The story could be a good reason too. Remember, the story is king. The actors are there simply to serve the story. When Virginia needed to reduce her time on the show, the writers made a decision to take the story in a particular direction. I miss Zhaan, but I think it would likely be a mistake to try to go back and undo that.

I agree with Sparky, it wouldn't be so difficult to bring Zhaan back since she is a plant. Some plants regenerate by cuttings. So, a blown apart bit of Zhaan could float through space, land on some suitable planet or asteroid, and grow into a new Zhaan. This Zhaan cutting might not have the original's full memories, might have some new life, etc. That way she might visit Moya, but not be fully connected to the crew. The only difficulty is that Moya moves around, so it would be harder for them to just "bump into her" from time to time for limited appearances on the show.

07-22-2003, 08:51 AM
Zhaan's one of my favorite characters but at the same time I have some misgivings about her coming back. Granted she added a lot to the show, but at the same time Farscape has gone a long way in her absence. I think the writers took Zhaan out of the show in a way that was very classy and dignified and I wouldn't want to see her come back in a way that didn't do justice to her character. Almost every other character on the show has died and in some form or other returned to life. To have Zhaan pop up some day whether blue or another color and say "Hey look I'm back!" would make me feel more cheated than gratified, as if the writers were taking the easy way out. Like Sny said earlier, Farscape really made you feel Zhann's sacrifice, and to bring her back on a permenant basis would make that sacrifice meaningless. I'd like to see more of her, perhaps in a purely spiritual form as an occasional character, but to have her come back full time on Moya as though nothing had happened just wouldn't work for me.
