i was wathcing a documetory about the actors from the original star trek (after they were fameous or something) and it mentoned that the fans got the show back by organising some kind of chain letter campain.
does anyone know the details, and if it would be workable for us?

speaking strictly from personal opinion here, i despise chain letters, chain email, chain anything that isn't linked metal. send it to me and it ends up in the trash. again though, that's just my personal opinion.

Please, no chainmail--I hate the stuff! And I suspect that enough people feel the same that it would work against us instead of for us.

Not to mention chain letters are illegal, aren't they?

I think they are illegal only if you ask for money.

I never heard anything about TOS chain mail. Just a big fan mail campaign. Hmmmm. Anyway, I think chain mail is way unpopular and wouldn't help us much. The last chain letter I received (I think it started out with 'this isn't really a chain letter') was returned to sender with a note to please not bother including me in such mailings in the future. He's never mentioned it to me so hopefully that's the end of that.

it might of just been the way they worded, it never had chain letters before but ive had chain emails and those can be annoying.
my only thought was finding out what exactly the Trekies did because the phrasing of the show could be implying something differnt to what was actually done.

Don't you think it probably consisted of people writing letters to other people and asking them to write to the network? Or keeping in touch through mail?

My understanding of the ST:TOS letter campaign was that they sent out form letters to all known fans asking them to write the network. They had thousands of names and addresses, so it came to heaps of mail. Of course, I was only a kid then, so I might have understood it wrong...anyone actually involved at the time know?

Most email services terms of service ban email chainmail too.
I think it is not just about asking for money--chain letters quickly clog up and incapacitate post offices.
