This is taken from the "who wants to do something different" thread. Since we need EVERYONE to participate, I wanted to post it separately. Please spread the word to any other boards or lists you're on and to any fellow Scapers you know offline. It is VERY important that we make a HUGE impression with our numbers.
OK, so we've serenaded Skiffy :band:
and we've bestowed gifts upon Viacom/UPN/Showtime. http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/images/smilies/biggringift.gif
"Now what?" you may ask.
Well, lessee ... who is in the running to purchase Skiffy that we've more or less overlooked so far? Don't know? OK, I'll tell you.
It's MGM, folks. Metro. Goldwyn. Mayer.
MGM is turning out to be a tenacious player in the Vivendi auction of Sci Fi ... one we can NOT afford to take for granted!
So, by the power vested in me as Dominar (:)) --
August is hereby officially declared
"Schmooze MGM" month!
:baloons: :baloons: :baloons: :baloons: :baloons: :baloons: :baloons: :baloons:
Over the next five weeks, let's share our particular brand of Scaper love with the kind folks over at MGM! Let's give them a taste of the professional, mature, intelligent, passionate, desirable viewers we are! Let's let them know that we are following the Vivendi sale with interest, and that we would love to see Sci Fi purchased by someone who was interested in regaining our eyeballs.
(Oh yeah, and I guess we ought to work a mention of Farscape in there somewhere too ;) )

So, what do you say gang? In the immortal words of John Crichton:
"Let's do this thing!"

:whoops: Glad you pointed that out! :D
For the record, although I agree that it is getting really tired, I like SG1. Correction, I like O'neil. Anything that man says is funny! Even if it isn't supposed to be. :D
"What?"
"This plan sucks!"
or my favorite:
"What?!"

BTW: is this gonna be a To Do in August ?

BTW: is this gonna be a To Do in August?I hope so! But no need to wait until then to get started, heh? The discussions are being held and the deals are being made *now*!
I know we sprinted hard during the first month or so after the cancellation and we've been running a marathon since then, but for the next few weeks, I hope people can kick it into high gear once again for a short stretch. Even marathon runners have to sprint towards the end of the race :D

Say, while we're at it, why don't we send Kirk some direct mail, also....

I mean, he IS a huge influence on MGM, being the largest shareholder! ;)

Excellent! I've added it to the initial post.
I had noticed in the latest articles posted about the Vivendi sale that they name Kerkorian as the decision-maker for MGM in the same breath as Summer Redstone for Viacom and Malone for Liberty.
So, let's send him some Scaper  too!
(and guys, post here if you send something so others can be encouraged to do the same, 'kay?)

I picked up some lovely impressionist stationery at a garage sale.
It's getting kind of hard to stay in Stationery these days.

I'll get mine written tonight. Ran out of stamps, so they'll be sent off tomorrow. I've got nothing but postcard stamps, in nice fat rolls of one hundred.;)

Look at this:
The renewal of Stargate for an eighth season has been in no small part due to the support of fans, according to Hank Cohen, president of MGM Television.
See what he said? It came from BBC Cult news
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/news/cult/2003/07/23/5900.shtml
although they may be quoting tvguide or something, I don't know...
Go get'em guys! Let's show'em what fan support really means!!!!!

Here's mine:
I am writing to you as a dedicated viewer of Farscape, the popular, intelligent, award-winning, and critically acclaimed science fiction original drama inexplicably cancelled by the Sci Fi Channel last September. Like many Farscape fans, I have been following the auction of Vivendi’s U.S. entertainment assets (including the Sci Fi Channel) very closely over the past several months. I realize that you have little reason to be concerned with a cancelled TV show when over $11 billion is at stake.
Yet, Farscape is not an ordinary television show. It is quite simply lightening in a bottle. It has unparalleled franchise potential. If properly marketed to a wider audience, its addictive quality and could lead to a franchise even greater than Star Trek. Since its cancellation, I have personally introduced 20 people to Farscape. Of those, 17 have loved it, two have liked it, and only one did not care for it. I may not work in the entertainment industry, but those seem like pretty good results to me and appear to belie Bonnie Hammer’s claims that Farscape was too “smart” for the audience.
As you contemplate MGM’s bid for VUE, I urge you not to forget the thousands of Farscape fans who look to Sci Fi’s new owner to give us our show back! We deserve to see the rest of the story that Sci Fi cut unnaturally short with its broken promises.

Faxing like mad, as I am at work. Letters to follow.
Thinking of taking the Showtime - 365 Reasons Postcards and making it more of a mini for MGM and doing it for the month of August. Maybe use the theme idea like RescueFarscape and do one week of quotes, one of critics comments, one for awards, etc. Guess I'd better print of more postcards and start writing....

Yay, team!! :olympic: (Don't worry, Digger -- that 9 included letters to Viacom, since the message is essentially the same :) )
AnnK, I think that's a *great* idea! :bounce: Why let Showtime have all the fun?
I hope you all will keep this effort alive while I'm gone for the next week :surf:
YOU WANT FARSCAPE BACK?!!!
Well, you've got to let them know it!!

I'm going to work on my letters this weekend. I'm just too brain tired to do it during the work week. (Not enough grey matter to go around!)
Plus, I was going to send in postcards too. So, that will be 3 letters, 10 postcards. (7 from the last to do list. )
Oh- and a letter to Entertainment Weekly.

I just mailed my latest batch this afternoon-- three schmoozing MGM, two asking Skiffy to let Farscape go, and three postcards to Showtime in the 'why to buy it' vein. Anybody else getting writer's cramp?!
Adding these because I just love 'em....

Since we've all learned that you can't take everything you read in the papers as gospel truth, how about we give the U.S. mail carriers something to do this month? :)

Shouldn't we also focus attention on GE/NBC, since they are favored for buying VUE?

We should definitely give GE/NBC some attention, but as for them being "favored" I think we can take that with a grain of salt. Everyone who writes the articles that get posted here has a different opinion. I'm getting the feeling that the Vivendi auction is going to end up being similar to the Henson auction. A lot of articles with different opinions, then all of a sudden it will be over, with the winner possibly coming out of left field (which, by the way doesn't preclude Viacom as being the winner. Really, has anyone at all opined that they will be the winner? Not in any article I've read. And don't forget about Barry Diller, who is REALLY out in left field as far as this auction has been concerned).

For all we know, Comcast will buy VUE.

For all we know, Santa Claus could buy VUE :lol ... but we've gotta start somewhere and this is just an attempt to focus attention/efforts :)
