Has came up with the idea of celebrating Henson Independence Day on August 1st. You can read more about it here: http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=12798 I've also heard it mentioned in other threads that sending them a postcard celebrating their independence on that day would be a cool thing to do - especially after their comments at Comicon. So, my question is are we going to do that? And where the frell do you find Independence Day themed postcards? I've looked everywhere I know to look but haven't been able to find any.

I am going to look for a congratulation card that has a Henson character on it. I'll write Happy Independence Day on the inside and mention Farscape (of course). This way, I show support for them by word and deed- a little deed mind you, but isn't it the thought that counts?

I was hoping one of our graphically inclined members was going to do the honors - maybe with a mupscape flare or something. :prop: :help:
(As you can see from my sig, I can barely draw stick figures - so don't be asking me.)

Just make sure you keep in mind that some of us are full color picture challenged - so if you make it in color, please make one in B & W too.
Thankee!

O.K. here are a few, I'm still toying around with a few others.
I give full credit to those whose imagaes I've used. Thanks to Praetorian and generic_screenname their art ROCKS! Check those two out. Some of the pics may not show up very well on the computer, but as far as I can tell they save and look as they should. If you have any problems just let me know.

For some reason the white type doesn't show up very well on my computer, but when I save the pic ('Save as') it saves just fine. Let me know if you have any problems with any of these (especially if my bad spelling has kicked in again).

Okay, I thought for Hendependence day we were going to liberate a whole lot of chickens! Maybe all over Henson..but not by plane. (as God is my witness, i thought turkeys could fly!)
No?
Well, these are great pics.

Those are cool! Exactly how do you get this on a postcard? Do you print them out and then take it to Kinkos or something to get them to copy it to a postcard?

If you have a printer you can just buy some card stock (got mine at Wal-Mart 150sheets for $5) and print them that way. There are post card templates in Microsoft Word. Go into tools, click envelopes&labels, go into labels, click label box in bottom right hand conner and pick your template, click ok, finally click new document. That should get you all set up.

Should I add the watchfarscape.com or savefarscape.com address(I know they go to the same place) to these or just leave them the way they are?

Do we have a Hendependence Day Anthem? I suggest "Rainbow Connection" (or the Farscape version someone posted) .

blueassbitch, they're beautiful! :aok:
I need to print several hundred on my crummy little printer to include in the snail mail mailing, so I made a much simpler image (I'm still working on it - but borrowed a little ratscape and kermi...)

I love these!! Does anybody know if they would work on a iron-on transfer? If they would, & still looked as good, it'd be a heck of a sight (& photo op) to see a bunch of people wearing a Hendependence Day shirt on Aug 1st at Scapercon.

That is a question for site admins, I think. Give Red a pm and link to this thread.

They do look great, and I think putting the www.savefarscape.com address would be a good idea. I saw someone ask a few pages back, but didn't see anyone answer.
Did we ever pick an address. I want to write, I'm ready to write, I have a envelope, I have a stamp.....
where do I send this thing?

personal opinion here, but given that the production of Farscape is/was a multinational endeavor, the US-centric theme seems, i don't know, insulting? to the majority of Aussies involved. i get the Henson's in the US deal, but it just doesn't seem right.
also, this idea is about the Henson Co going home where it belongs and our celebration of that event, not about the website/campaign. edited to add: but it would definately be a nice touch if it were indicated on the card that the love and wishes are coming from a Farscape fan.

I have to kinda agree.... remember there are Aussies and Brit's (and remember Henson's London offices..) involved too... Erm.. maybe we could have three flags? US,Ozzie and the Union Jack?
:D

or no flags and then we don't unintentionally miss anybody. :D

Have to agree with waltersgirl and BritAngie here. I think much of what has made Henson, and Farscape is the input they've had from around the globe; the Muppets were born in the UK, OK Kermit was born on Sesame Street, but at the time Jim Henson, couldn't get backing from a US network for The Muppets, until they were a hit. They had to come over here to the UK for that. Once they had that success, Henson was up and rolling.
Let's not forget Farscape. I think much of what is Farscape, is due to where it is made - the crew, much of the cast, are Aussies.
Please don't think I'm being negative here. It's great we should cultivate good relations with the Hensons, in trying to get our show back, and it's good to show our creativity and imagination. But in addition to the Henson family, aren't we also congratulating their employees all around the World, that the people who grew the business are back in charge?
Maybe a simpler "Welcome Home" would do the trick.
OK - I'll stop being so frelling preachy now, and go play word association... :D

Hey mfa96!
Have you been able to find any greeting cards with muppets on them? I've looked at several drugstores and Hallmark shops and can't find any. Do they even make them?
mfa96
07-27-2003, 08:59 PM
No luck here either yet- though I haven't seriously looked yet. If I find them, I'll post where...
mfa96
07-29-2003, 08:38 AM
I have been out and about and here's what I have found: new stuffed muppets- Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, and Animal (they said they were new), a giant Kermit Pez dispenser, a keychain Kermit Pez dispenser, Elmo and Cookie monster cookies, and a Big Bird first Birthday card, but no other muppet cards.
I said I'd report back when I found something- or in this case didn't find something. Maybe I'll just send a congrats with a sketch of the frog- that won't violate copyright laws, will it? Just the thought will suffice- and maybe a note mentioning that there were no muppet cards...
;)

Thanks mfa96! You found more than I did anyway. That's weird that they don't make greeting cards. I figured they would have some in the Hallmark store since they're kinda connected somehow aren't they? You'd think they would sell a lot of Kermit and Miss Piggy stuff.

How about replacing the stars on the American flag with a
picture of Kermit? I think the Farscape cast HAS to be in the
foreground!
Or how about a background of fireworks, instead of a flag?

I'm afraid the board has a 100kb limit for uploading files (if you check next to "Attach file" it says "maximum size: 102400 bytes", which is exaclty 100kb). You could try to slightly decrease the resolution or size, that should easily push it below the 100kb mark :)
Love and Peace and Size DOES Matter :D

Good idea Scaper989! I know that Independence Day here in America is huge, but I also know that other countries have their own Independence day celebrations, besides many of those fun celebrations occur here too (like Cinco De Mayo) because of the wonderful melting pot America is. Fireworks are a good representation of this type of celebration. Plus they look purty on post cards.

I have known that the production of Farscape and its fans is multi-national. I think graphics with other independence day themes would be wonderful and that the people who celebrate those should do that (I’m not the only one with a photo editor). I don’t want to end up being even more insulting by using images from holidays I don’t know much about. I didn’t intend for them all to have the US flag, and realized this when I was making these. I realized they would not work well for people in other parts of the world. That’s why I made the one of the lunar landing. Even though some could argue that it is an American image, I don’t agree, especially since I took out the US flag. I see it as humanity continuing to strive forward, just as the Henson Company will. Having said all that, the Henson Co. on August 1, will once again be an American owned company(with employees from around the world). I did not mean that the company should be American when I said: “Time to put things back where they belong”, I was referring to the fact that the company is going back to the founding family and now it is time to put Farscape back on the air where it belongs. I thought they would understand and appreciate the pun & analogy. Thank you for the input though, that’s what makes this community so great. :wingnut: :hug2:

I was working on it for the "snail mail mailer" anyhow, so I created a PDF of the printer friendly Hendependence Day postcard I made. It has front and back of the postcard all ready to print, snip and mail.
I'll post the link here for anyone who's interested:

I've been trying to make a poster with Kermit, Fozzie and Gonzo in the "Spirit of '76" pose with the drums and flute (or is it a fife?) in a guilded boarder with Sam the Eagle perched on top. But I couldn't get to the the level I wanted. I tried both drawing it and photo touch-ups, but it still stunk like the thing wrapped in tin foil in the back of my fridge. Suffice it to say, had I pulled it off, it would have been kick-ass.

I had enough problems trying to put Kermie in an "Uncle Sam" pose. I still dont think it looks right, which is why I didnt post it.
