Max put together a wonderful traveling convention display for the Burbank and NY conventions. This display is available for those attending other conventions to help attract interest in Farscape.
The display contains the following:
Save Farscape banner, featuring Ratscape's posters
Rygel and Moya soft sculptures by Mickie's husband (Rygel particularly is amazing and really draws people in)
Campaign flyers to copy
Farscape Webmasters Assn info to copy
a CD of the fan-produced commercial for display on a laptop
a copy of the FoodScape cookbook and cookbook CD for display
one of GuyRicardo's car wraps
If you would like to use the traveling convention package for a convention near you, please post here. We'd like to get a schedule going so that the package is always in use.
This post will be moved to the cons and rallies section, but I wanted the opportunity for everyone to see it here first.
Thanks,
D.
Thanks D. :aok:
The kit looks absolutely fabulous and draws so much great attention. If you've got a sci-fi/genre con in your area, sign up, grab a fan table, and be prepared to be the most popular table at the con. :D

I saw it at the NYC convention this weekend! It was wonderful! I especially liked the Rygel sculpture -- I just couldn't stop staring at it the whole time I was there.
So is someone going to keep a record of where the kit goes on its journey to help Farscape? It's only been to Burbank and NY so far, right?

I have a silly idea. Can we include a guest book for people to sign when they drop by the table? It might be kind of neat... :)

:headbang:
WHY do people preface good ideas with "I have a silly idea . . . "?? Wish we'd thunk of it before the Burbank Con.
Katyaz - the package has only been to Burbank and NY so far. We'd like to get it out to other cons quickly tho -- attract those potential viewers for the rest of S4.
There will be a record of where it goes, since it's traveling by Fed Ex on account.

I'd like to give Mr. ScapeArtist a big thanks for being particularly good with knots--he's the one that managed to get the banner up with ease. I knew that Army training would come in handy one day! And people did seem to like the display. We definitely stood out from the blahness of the Creation tables. My hat is off to Susan, Matt, guyricardo, Mickie and Mr. Mickie for their creativitiy and enviable design sense. The most asked question this weekend wasn't "So what's the news about the show?" but "Where can I get one of those?" Especially in reference to Rygel. So, nice job all! And a huge huge thanks to everyone who worked behind the table! We couldn't have done it without you!!

The DetroitScapers are planning a fan table at ConFusion, which is held January 24 - 26th, 2003. Members of the ChicagoScapers will also be there helping out. We'd certainly like to get this display for that Con.
The website for the Con is http://stilyagi.org/cons/2003/
The ChicagoScapers are planning a fan table at CapriCon, which is held from February 6th - 9th, 2003. It would be nice to get the display for this Con as well.
Website for this Con: http://www.capricon.org/
The organizers for each Con expect about 1200 or so people to attend.

I'd like to claim it for Marscon Feb 28- March 2 in MN.
Mr. Mickie can give Rygel and Moya thier 30,000 mile checkup at the same time :)

Orlando's Megacon is 28 Feb -2 March. I see that date is already taken. I'm currently trying to get a group together (as in, just decided two days ago to try to get a group together) to have a table at the con (Virginia Hey and 'Crais', etc are scheduled to be at the con).
So - would anyone be interested in helping put together a second display set?

Hey. Don't know if this is going to do any good, but I wanted to give a big THANKS to everyone who's volunteered so far. I'm Shaye, and I'm coordinating the kit at all of the cons. Woo.
I'll be contacting each of you by email or pm this weekend. In the meantime, I've got a calendar set up and so far it looks like the only double-up weekend is hossgal's MegaCon the same weekend as Mickie's MarsCon. But if we're going to put together another kit, we should use it as much as we can, yes?
Any of you can always email me at snortgirl (at) earthlink (dot) net.a

Another thought - and this seems to be the logical place to post it -
For local groups to 'add on' to the display...
I'm trying to figure out how to take 'Barbie Doll' (tm) figures and dress them up like the FS gals - if I can workout the shaved head and the dye job, I'm thinking one of Zaahn would be particulary striking. (Not to mention, long flowing robe = no tiny shoes to find and no super tight seams).
I'm *thinking* an auction of this sort of thing would not be in the spirit and intent of our intent to honor the copyright...is this right?
Anyway, just had that thought and wanted to share.

I personnally don't know if I can participate in going to this con but it would be a good con to get on the list it is called Concinnity.
Special GUEST Virginia Hey.... General Sci-fi Con but we need to pick up some new viewers that haven't seen FarScape yet or maybe some casual viewers that don't know about the cancellation.

Thanks for the info, LadySakura. Concinnity is being held April 12 & 13; that weekend is wide open if anyone wants to reserve the kit.
I saw Virginia Hey at ScaperCon last year and can attest that she's an absolute delight onstage.

.:aok:
Quick note to say Thanks!!! to everyone who worked to put the kit together. Nora and I spent the weekend talking to sci fi fans about Farscape and our campaign. We had loads of flyers, pictures from the Burbank Convention, and Nora brought her tv/vcr combo and we played episodes(which brought a lot of attention to our effort to get the word out). A lot of people seemed genuinely interested in knowing more about Farscape.
We talked to lots of people who watch it but didn't know it was cancelled, some who knew it was cancelled but didn't think there was anything they could do, or people who were interested in starting to watch it. We did talk to some people who didn't seem that interested or thought we were wasting out time. However, once we talked to them about the campaign, many were left optimistic about what we're doing.
One thing that worked really well with people who weren't interested in the show at all was to explain that our immediate focus is on getting our 5th season of Farscape, but if our campaign succeeds, it could change the way networks make decisions about which shows to keep and which to cancel. We used the recent cancellations of Firefly (on FOX), Haunted (on UPN), and Birds of Prey(also UPN) as examples. We encouraged these people to help us out if they could by sending a letter to Sci Fi Channel and to write letters to the networks that air their favorites shows. It's not enough to send letters after a show is cancelled. Sci-fi and genre show fans are poorly represented by the Nielsen ratings system and the only way for networks to get the true picture of viewership for these shows is for fans to write in and say that while we may not have Nielsen boxes, we love our shows and want to stand up and be counted. This explanation seemed to really hit home with those who weren't fans of Farscape. Many seemed eager to help after talking with Nora and me for a bit.
Good luck to all, don't let naysayers and doom-speakers get you down!
Alex
Another huge thank you for the con display, and also the prizes!
This is what I posted at the Ultimate about Confusion (Jan24-26) in the Detroit area:
This weekend the Detroit area hosted Confusion, an annual science fiction convention organized by the Stilyagi Air Corps.
This year, Detroit and Chicago area Scapers set up a Save Farscape table, to promote awareness of the show and the efforts to get it back into production.
Savefarscape.com provided prizes which were given away at drawings during the Saturday night room party. This was good stuff, too - the Season One DVD boxed set, the Best of Season One DVD set, 4 VHS copies of Premiere/I, ET and Nerve/The Hidden Memory, a copy of House of Cards by Keith De Candido, a full set of Season Three trading cards, and a gazillion packs of Farscape in Motion season three trading cards. Plus a trizillion Farscape magnets, and brochures/flyers about the efforts to save the show.
I apologize for not knowing quite who provided the other paraphernalia: a banner that Froon had autographed at Burbank, another huge color banner, a window cling (as in, covers the back windshield of a car), the stuffed Rygel and Moya seen at Burbank, a laptop showing the "I Am Farscape" commercial. And badges and pens and little pompom things I'm not entirely sure were DRDs, but they did have antenna(s) and were quite cute.
Besides the room party (voted Best Drinks at the con overall ), another room aired Twice Shy, for the folks who missed it because they were at the con on Friday.
I was at the table for more than 4 hours on Saturday, and lost track of all the folks I talked to, but from 9:30 till I left at 5, there was a steady stream of people who came up (voluntarily! ) to say how much they liked the show, and hated the cancellation, and promised to support the campaign to get it back on the air.
Not a single person was negative about it. Many said they'd only seen a few eps, didn't have cable, but watched what they could, when they could. They were geeked about the chance to win the DVDs and VHS (Can't thank SaveFarscape enough, or feldman, who braved the early morning cold to rendezvous with me to pass on the goodies so they'd be at the con when things got going. Thank you, thank you, thank you!)
I am, however, kicking myself over a missed opportunity.
Here I am, at the table, pimping the prize give-away, and up walks Jim Frenkel, who is an editor at TOR Books. We talk a bit, he takes some magnets, he moseys off to the panels he's supposed to be part of. And I micro-adjust the prize goodies again -- and notice the spine of HOUSE OF CARDS. It's published by TOR Books.
D'OH!!! bangs head against the wall
Coulda, shoulda, woulda thanked him profusely for TOR's having published the novelizations. Whatever you may think of the quality of the books themselves, it was a good thing for major publishing house to have participated in the process. If they could be convinced that contracting more novelizations would make them money, it couldn't help but advance our cause.
However, by the time I could leave the table (couldn't leave the goodies unattended) to track him down, he was nowhere to be found, and apparently he'd already left by Sunday.
So - dammit.
But - professional SF publisher showed an interest in the Farscape table, and tucked magnets into his shirt pocket.
Mucho thanks to Salome/Kathy, who arranged things with the con committee (we had a great location, right near registration and the food vendor and elevators, with plenty of room for small crowds to assemble and talk Farscape), and to the other Detroit Scapers (sorry, didn't catch all the names) and the Chicago Scapers who came bearing many give-away goodies.
And again, MANY thanks to SaveFarscape for the prizes! Those caught a lot of attention, and were much sought-after.
And of course, Rygel and Moya attracted a lot of attention, too.
Oh, btw - the Chiana button was VERY popular among persons of the male persuasion.

Yes!!! Thanks so much for the con display at ConFusion. It really helped us get attention and started lots of conversation!
LOVE the RYGEL sooooooo much. I took him with me on Suday, after the table was dismantled. :)
Shaye: I am working under the assumption, according to the posts here, that the next con that needs the kit is CapriCon in Chicago. I'll be going there with it, so that's no problem. If it needs to go somewhere for this weekend in between, let me know ASAP.
Thanks again!

You are all fabulous, and I'm so pleased that we're getting such a good response from the cons that have been worked so far.
Just to clear up any confusion (no pun intended), here's a list of cons that the kit will be heading to in the next weeks:
CapriCon (Chicago), Feb 6-8
FarPoint (Baltimore), Feb 14-16
MarsCon (MN), Feb 28-Mar 2
GalaxyCon (Baltimore), Mar 7-9
I also have groups looking into alternate kits for:
Dr. Who convention (San Fernando valley), Feb 14-16
MegaCon (Orlando), Feb 28-Mar 2
Is anyone out there planning on attending a convention the weekend of February 21-23? Want to take part in this experience? The kit's wide open that weekend, and we'd love a group of volunteers. Also, if anyone plans on attending either the Dr. Who convention or MegaCon and has any ideas for an alternate con kit, please contact me.
Getting the word out at sci-fi conventions is a great way to target the specific audience we're trying to reach. I want to thank everyone who's posted their con experiences. We'll get new viewers for Farscape if we have to persuade them one fan at a time. ;}

Does Creation let savefarscape have a free table in the
dealers hall for Science Fiction cons? There is one in Seattle
for Star Trek/Science Fiction and Buffy/Angel. I know the traveling display is reservered that wkend 2/28-3/2, BUT we may have enough people to cover a table and could simply use a paper banner, and a laptop running FS commercials with handouts. (tho' rygel doll would be nice - we have some action figures).
If we got free space, we might get enough people (4-5 from Or and Wa --well mostly OR) to do it.
I wrote to Creation web site, but got no response. I figure you need to know SOMEONE to contact directly. ??

Well, the DC Scapers group really did good with the convention display this weekend! I'm sure that the folks who were organizing the table can speak better than I can. (I was helping to run the con.) FrooniumRicky was hanging out there on Saturday afternoon, and seemed to be very impressed with our efforts to save his job. :D Raelee LOVED the "Wanted, 5th Season" pictures, especially of Sikozu. They gave her one of the Sikozu pictures to take home with her. They even got Jonathan Hardy to sign the Rygel!
Thanks for loaning it to the DC Scapers! It was much appreciated.

Kind of topical... So there are some cast members here in the States. Some looking for work (Ben, Claudia) and Ginnie (working the cons, looking for work). But Gigi got a gig. Ok, enough of the word play. So what I want to know is, who is and is not available for Cons in the near future? I would like to start sending out names for consideration to my local cons soon. There are two Vulkons (Buffy/ST) coming to Orlando and Tampa this spring, and OAFSIS (Orlando Sci-FI Society) is having a Fan Con. So who do you suggest I suggest? ;)

The traveling convention display now has two IASA patches for display only (please keep these in the display). PNFF was able to donate these to the display from a generous dealer at the Portland, Oregon Star Trek/Farscape convention.
Pacific Northwest Farscape Fans have also donated a box of imprinted golf size pencils in peacekeeper colors to the display (they were very popular).
Imprint
Line 1: SAVE FARSCAPE (copyright symbol) HENSON CO.
Line 2: GO TO WWW.WATCHFARSCAPE.COM
Line 3: USE YOUR MIND-LOSE YOUR HEART
We gave our pencils away for free and whoever gets them next can do the same. We also donated some TVC flyers and flyers containing info about the po box, the 1800# and the website. We wanted to update the display with more current info.
A lot of the flyers in the display are outdated with old times for viewing Farscape (eg. Jan-March 2003, 8pm etc). They can be used though if the old news is blacked out with a sharpie (sharpies come in the display) There are also a few ones that have outdated info for people to write to. I suggest using the sharpies again. Just keep an eye out for the ones with the old info, so that newbies aren't confused. One other thing, we couldn't get the online press kit cd to work. Nothing showed up at all. It was as if the cd hadn't been burned at all.

The organizer for FilmCon (Madison, WI) is looking for CREW members willing to make a presentation about anything to do with the production of Farscape. (Makeup, special effects, costumes, set decoration, etc.) He's also looking for anyone who did some writing for Farscape. This Con is scheduled for Feb. '04. Here's the website for last year's FilmCon:

(In my opinion this Con looks fascinating.) In years past this convention has leaned heavily towards Star Wars special effects, so it would be GREAT to get the Farscape crew the recognition they deserve. PM me if you need more info.

If anyone wants them I have some things that I would like to give to the traveling convention left over from what I donated to the table from our Creation convention in Portland in April. Glow-frelling-sticks. (After consuming my life for a month acquiring them and now I'm tripping on them, it's a love-hate thing) They're actually glow bracelets, but they're cool. They were a huge hit in Portland. When Wayne got up on stage I looked behind me and it looked like a rave was going to break out at any moment. When Wayne came to our table I made sure he got one. :) They're straight and once you bend them is when they start glowing. I put the attachments on the end and then displayed them straight in a cool looking wire pencil holder. People kept wanting to buy them and about fell over when I told them they were free. I've got about 500-600 left and for the love of the almighty I can't think of one good reason to keep them. I would've offered sooner but on the 28th I had a failed surgery attempt (aspirated, they shoved a hoover down my throat, nasty experience) and forgot all about it. Plus real life has just been pesky lately, haven't had time for much. I also have trading cards from seasons 1-3, and some un-laminated bookmarks. I'm not sure where the traveling display is going so please pm me or just post it here and I'll get this stuff sent out as soon as possible. We're trying the surgery again on May 23rd so please let me know before then.

I've got the con kit! Who needs it next? If no one needs it before next weekend, there is time for you to send the glow sticks to me, so I can send them on with the rest of it.
Since I didn't have to send the kit on, I'm taking Rygel for a short visit to the Motor City Comic Con tomorrow. He needs to get out and socialize. :)
So, reply here if you need the kit. If no one speaks up by Tuesday, those with stuff to add can send it to me.

Actually, the kit itself is free for that weekend. The only people who have contacted me so far to secure the "official" kit are the Convergence people, the ComicCon people, and the DragonCon people. I don't have any of these other cons down - unless Jul has collected contact info from any of them, the kit SHOULD be available for GenCon.
I say this because we are in the process of switching the Con Kit Liason duties - or whatever you want to call it *g* - from me to Jul. So, charmedmeat, go ahead and email me at snortgirl@earthlink.net and I'll put you on the list. AND - anyone at any of the Cons waltersgirl listed above - if you're anyone except ComicCon or DragonCon - we have no record of your kit request! Please email jul@watchfarscape.com to put your name in! You'll need to send your contact information, too: ie, snailmail and phone number.

Ok, not sure if this is the right place or not, but...
There is a con coming to KCMO the weekend of Sept. 19,20&21. I'd like to reserve the table stuff for that weekend if it's still available. This is a Slanted Fedora Star Trek convention but it's one of the largest the Fedora puts on (cuz the guy that runs it lives here) so the turnout is rumored to be pretty good. So far there aren't any of our cast scheduled but that could change.
The newly founded PrairieScapers are sponsoring the table for this con so let me know what I need to do to get things taken care of.
