I'm currently watching MI-5 on A&E and was needing a bit of a primer. First time I've seen it, so I haven't any idea what's up.

Give me a quick run-down of the plot, etc. if you would.

Great show! :aok:

Have you checked out their A&E website? Here's the link.

www.aetv.com/tv/shows/mi5/mi5_homepage.html

They give episode guides/synopsis and "personnel" information, background about each primary & secondary character, actor info., and some other neat stuff. I thought it was interesting & helpful. Probably catch you up a lot better than I could. I know several of us here are watching, so if you have questions, ask away.

I've been watching from the start. It's a great show. But I just read in TV Guide that it's being cancelled! Anybody else read that, or am I mind-frelled?

I hope I'm wrong. I would like to see more of the show.

I just watched it for the first time this week and liked it!!

Cancelled? Probably since all the shows I like seem to go that route!!

I think I started the "cancelled" rumour for MI-5 in another thread. There is an article in the Aug. 23 issue of TV Guide about 4 new summer series (Keen Eddie, MI-5, Banzai, and Lucky) that "tanked" despite being excellent shows and critical successes. It didn't actually say "cancelled". But I'm pretty sure the other 3 shows were.

Look for the "Keen Eddie Back for 4" thread in OT.

I haven't looked at either site mentioned yet, but does what's being said about cancellation mean that A&E is not going to be showing Season 2?

It hasn't been cancelled, Antrobus, so nobody knows anything at this point....

I read that TV Guide article, too, and interpreted it to mean that it was going to be canceled. I sure hope not. I really like this show.

MI-5 is a typical BBC short-cycle show - thre are only about 7 or 8 episodes per 'season'.

Yeah, I read the TV Guide article, and was alarmed - but the good news is that it's popular in the UK, and it's already on DVD over there, AND they're working on, if not broadcasting a second season over there. So I'll order the R2 DVDs - esp. since the cut 10-15 minutes out of every episode to make way for commercials.

So I'll buy the foreign DVDs NOW, 'cause I'll likely be brain-damaged by American television by the time that ADV or whomever decides to release it here.

As of today, A&E has MI-5 on its schedule through the end of October. They're also sending promos to affiliates for taggable spots, so I'm *guessing* that there are no immediate plans to kill it.

Hey, I just noticed the LABOR DAY SCHEDULE (Mon. 9/1). They're running all eps in order back-to-back starting at noon and repeating at 6 p.m.! Then new episodes starting 9/3.

I always seem to be busy or to forget to watch it on Tues., so I've been taping it to watch when I can really focus. It does require a bit of concentration, well worth it.

Thanks jayelsee,

I think I'll tape the 9/1 sequence and then be able to watch the shows in order - and like you said , at my own leisure. It moves right along. As I recall in the ep I saw there are times where they split the screen into "boxes" to show some of the more mundane , nonspeaking action that's taking place. Clever move since it progresses the story without showing everything individually.

thank you jayelsee '24' is having a marathon on labor day as well. i've been watching mi5 from the beginning since it was rumored to be a little bit like '24' it's called 'spooks' in the uk and popular there. it's not as fast pace but is more on surveillance and wire tapping and less on body count.

Is anyone still watching MI-5? I missed last week's episode and thought I could catch it on the Sat night repeat, but A&E has done away with that repeat I guess. So, I didn't get to see it

I'll have my tape ready tomorrow night so as not to miss it again. (I work evenings)

Anyway, I'm still watching the early ones I taped on Labor Day.

Episode two was GRUESOME! I couldn't believe that they stuck that agent's head in that hot grease and then shot her! I was horrified!!
