Hey!!

Tribsaint and I have decided to make remote control DRDs. We went out and bought some RC cars.. we were going to use hardhats for the shell.. but we don't know where to get our hands on some AND I snurched my stepdad's to use as a guide.. and it doesn't work or look good at all.

I know some people here have made their own, any suggestions for the outer shells or anything else related to making RC DRDs??

When we did ours, we used light wire and paper mache (however one spells that frelling word)... to be honest it came out quite well as long as the wiring was done close together... it came out quite stable and once the paper glue dried it was really quite firm.

Now I wouldn't place it up against my dog... but for all intents and purposes I was quite pleased with the way it turned out. The biggest issue we had was that we were using remote control trucks to get the size enough so that we wouldn't be depending too much on wire... it's difficult finding said rc trucks without wheels that are FAR too noticable! LOL

Good luck! It's really quite fun, especially when you're finished and out driving around your little drd... we got a few stares from the neighbourhood kids.. that's for sure! LOL

Hi just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. We just finished a DRD kit. It might work as a rc model, I haven't looked into fitting a toy inside yet. If you think you might be interested drop me a line.

Hello,

I vote for bondo. This is the material that is used to fill in dents and imperfections on cars. You get the compound and a hardening agent, mix the two, they heat up and become quite solid. Actually very solid, like a brick. The best part is that once you have the basic shape in bondo you can then sand it and carve it. If you make a mistake you just slap another layer over the area you screwed up.

One word of caution. Do not mix up the entire can with the hardener, just mix up what you need at any one time.

I have seen pics of a guy who used bondo and a bicycle helmet to make a DRD and it came out very nicely.

Bondo is such fun! My dad owned a body shop and I loved playing with bondo as a kit.
