I thought it was a prop gun, but the gas from the cap caught a piece of shrapnel in the barrell of the prop gun.

From what I have read... it was a real gun that wasn't leaded. By that... the movie studio uses REAL guns, but fill the barrels with lead so that they can never be fired. The gun that shot Brandon was one that was used for closeups... and wasn't supposed to be used for any filming.
That is what they said on the E! show about the incident.

Second of all...you mortals still arent figuring it out. Your souls cant be located except by non mortals, and even then brining two shared souls in proximity would just cause them to merge, and thus your huge army you assembel (assuming you COULD pass thru the appropriate dimensions to assemble it) would just be you.
