I am a huge Wanda Sykes fan and I cringed when I watched the first season. Her "news reports" are spot on and brilliantly executed, but they were saddled with the "Friends-style" of writing. Smart-ass comment>Snappy Comeback>Smart-assier comment>Snappier comeback>Smart-ass comeback>Snappy comeback> oy! It's so dang annoying.

This year, I think the network gave her a little bit of lee-way. There was some cast re-working (with Marc MacDonald playing her boss), and the show was smartened up a little bit. Last weeks episode showed her loosening up her new boss with liqour only to find out he's an alchoholic.

I met Wanda when she did stand-up here in Nashville a few years ago. She was very sweet and personable and not at all like her stage persona. She hugged me (I told her I wrote a book of poetry satirizing the deification of Maya Angelou by upper-middle-class white ladies) and told me that I was crazy but in a good way. I gave her a copy of the book and she signed a piece of paper for me.

"To Eric

Good Luck,

Love,

Wanda Sykes"

Definitely not what you'd expect from her.

Anyway, the show is coming together nicely.
