Okay....so what did everyone think of the show tonight? I was thinking some of it was really dorky. They got me rolling my eyes in a few places...but the storyline itself seems to be really good. I just hope they don't mess it up.

Anyone else??? What did you guys think? (I know..I didn't put any spoilers...waiting to see what others thought first. LOL)

I am going to be very wary of this show. It seems I have seen some of these plots in other spy shows. I hope they take a different turn and don't just follow the standard plotlines.

Well I enjoyed it a lot. This is the first spy show I've watched in a very long time, so even if the plots are recycled, it's all new to me.

For some reason, I really enjoy the over-the-top action scenes. I think that its some sort of rule that they have to have Sydney go undercover in a sexy outfit in every episode :D

My reaction to Vaughn's marriage was similar to Sydney's. Less than two years and he's married??

I'm looking forward to seeing what Slone's really up to. He still seems to have a magic 8-ball up his sleeve. The bit where he had exactly the info Syndney was after sitting on his desk waiting for her, was a bit much even for this show. Also I'm not buying that he told her the truth at all.

I know a guy whose fiance was killed in a car accident and 9 months later was engaged to another woman... they were married just over a year after his first fiance was killed. It happens.

And then her mom busts her out of prison at the end...
jeez... are they going to leave anything for next week?

Ok, how do i write spoilers here? I can never figure out what spoiler tags are. but i am a continuity freak, and something has to be mentioned about something Syd said. (BTW, can't WAIT till the review is up at TWoP!) Someone get back to me with those tags real quick so I can post and fall into bed! LOL

Just go ahead and post it..I put a spoilers warning in the title of the post, so it should be okay.

The thing that irked me about Syd being mad at Vaughn (and that I haven't seen anyone bring up yet) is that SHE was in bed with Vaughn less than a YEAR after her fiancee was killed. And for all we know, he might not really be dead..if that's the bar you're going on with her life. Can't yell at him and be mad if you did it yourself.

My problem with it..was that I was so excited and I found some things SO implausible..I ended up MSTie-ing like half of the show.

Like....they haven't debriefed her and they don't know where she's been...or what she's been doing. I mean...come on. She could have been trained to re-infiltrate and destroy the whole thing!!!! My hubby and I were both  It was almost like they were saying "Well, we only have a few blue shirts and we've put them in positions of authority. Now we have you and a bunch of red shirts...so you're going to go on every mission...and the rest of the agency will just slowly die."

I find it somewhat annoying that everyone seems to be playing coy with the past two years. They are only revealing little things a bit at a time. No one is sitting down with her and answering her questions. If they hadn't sent her on a mission, I would believe it was because of security stuff. But sending her on a mission and not telling her anything about anything else is a little stretch for me.

BUT....I do like the plot twists. I wasn't surprised at the video her dad showed her at the end. As long as they don't make it some evil twin or someone who was manipulated to look like her, I'll be okay.

They also haven't brought up her mother at all. We still don't know where she is and what she is doing. That's kind of cool. And what about Will? If he lived, where is he? Maybe Syd will end up with Will after all? You think Will is a huge agent now and he will be her partner?? Or...will they keep him the poor victim guy and she has to go rescue him? (I'd like to see him a super agent now. :D )

Now...(Look out...theory coming....if you don't want to discuss possibilities for plot...stop reading now.)

We still don't KNOW what the Rambaldi device did. We know what Sloane SAID it did...but no one else mentioned it...and I think something like that would be in a museum where anyone could see it (and spread the message of peace). Remember when Syd's picture was in that Rambaldi book with regard to "destroying" a super power? What if the device laid out a plan or plot for how it was to be done...and how she could be controlled to do it? And Sloane is just playing the nice guy as part of that plan? (Heh...it's an idea...LOL)

All in all, I think they have MASSIVE potential and hope they live up to even half of it. Then it will maintain its excellence.

And can I say it again? I LOVE television that makes you THINK! :D

Oh, I know that people do move on after the death of a loved one, sometimes in short order, but it looks like Voughn took the DNA smear at face value and didn't even bother looking for her. For normal people this would be what they would have to do, but in Syd and Vougn's world, where supposedly dead people pop up alive all the time, his moving on seems really premature. At least Sydney had incontrivertiable evidence that her fiance was, in fact, dead.

The non-debriefing bugged me too. Why wern't they pushing hard to get past Sydney's memory block? Why wasn't Sydney insisting on it?

Is this the first time that Sydney and her dad have actually hugged? I'm missing the first two thirds or so of season 2

I can't help but wonder if this is all some sort of mental mind frell...and the whole world has been built around her to get her to do certain things....maybe? Maybe what she sees isn't real....it's just....been put in her head to look real and now she's really a rogue assassin?

I don't know..I have all of these possibilities running through my head and quite frankly, I LOVE IT!

I don't remember about the hug. Something tells me they have hugged before....? It was cool to see him out of jail though. I love Syd's dad. Victor Garber is so cool! I didn't like the beard though. It reminded me of Fiddler on the Roof and I couldn't seem to get "TRADITION.......TRADITION!" out of my head during the ep. :lol

I usually figure this stuff out, pretty quick, but I'm a bit perplexed, I'll be watching with a slow eye. grinner says he's seen something similar, I haven't, so it will be fresh for me either way. I like the show, but I hope they don't go thru too many more quick changes.

I find these scenes borderline camp (and I mean that as a compliment). They remind me a bit of the violence on "Buffy," which was often cartoonish (again, a compliment).

As for the implausibility factor, that doesn't bother me so much. I'm more than willing to put up with some implausibility if it means killer plot twists. Alias has always struck me as more of a fantasy spy show than a realistic portrayal of the CIA. I mean, ancient prophecies and mysterious artifacts? :D Any show that has the guts to majorly reinvent itself in just over two seasons has my full attention. I thought the post-Super Bowl episode from last year was brilliant, even if I wasn't that happy with the direction the show took afterwards.

Did you watch any of next week's preview clips, after they rolled the credits, Twich? Something's coming that will top the Evil!Francie.

They really had me going after the 1st commercial break - for about 5 minutes I was convinced that the whole '2 years' thing was bogus, and that 'Vaughn' wasn't who he said he was. I think I might have preferred that to the direction we're headed in. Sloane a philanthropist? Puh-lease!

And Dixon? Sloane KILLED his wife! Not while she was aiding and abetting a flight, the way that Sloane's suicidal, cancer-remissive wife was, but in a public place, where the collateral damage could have been significant. Yet Sloane is in Switzerland, and Dixon is the toothless new section chief. It just doesn't make sense - you'd at least think that Dixon could have arranged for Sloane to 'fall down' a flight of stairs someplace...

And what's up with Will - is he alive or dead? And if he's alive, where the hell was he last night? In my view, that's a heck of alot more scandalous than Vaughn marrying the first Sydney look-alike that he comes across... oop! Did I just say that? Sorry. Maybe Sydney's not even herself this season, maybe she is the blonde chick...

I think part of what I find entertaining is the fact that the things they deal with are a little over the top. It's much more enjoyable than watching a show that mimics real life. If I wanted that, I'd watch the news! Though we haven't met Vaughn's wife yet, I think the marriage is probably winding down about now, and if she really loves Vaughn, she could conveniently sacrifice her life for the good of him or Sydney! :lol3:

Does anyone else find Vaughn's wife really annoying? Normally I like Melissa George, but last night's episode convinced me that she should quickly be discovered to be a dirty agent and somebody should ice her. They are trying to put her across as this nicey chick, but I think it's all a scam. My bro-in-law & I have a theory: Sydney was kidnapped, they made a double of her that was the real killer, and put Vaughn's wife in there to distract him from searching for the truth. Wipe out Sydney's memory when she won't break, drop her back in the game. Vaughn's wife will be there to check up on her and keep an eye on Vaughn. But who might have put her there? The Covenant? Sloane? Ok, so it's not a perfect theory, but somehow she has to be bad. She just has to be! ("it's just a show, it's just a show....") I'm ok, really! :D

So what's up with that? Do we REALLY think Syd's a bad guy now? And could THAT be the turn the new season is taking? Thoughts?

So... I'm a little let down. I figured with all the 47-hoopla, there'd be something... interesting... about this ep (Reunion). I dunno, the Through the Looking Glass/Alice in Wonderland stuff just aint doin' it for me. The action was decent at least. I really do wish they'd get to the technomythological & spy stuff that made S1 awesome though. The love-triangle crap seems like nothing but a cheap attempt to get a rise out of the 14-year-old chowderhead Syd/Vaughn shippers.

Am I alone about this?

You'd be amazed--I've yet to run across a show that doesn't have shippers in some form or another. I guess some people are just drawn to that angle of the story. I personally don't consider myself a shipper, for Alias or anything else. But I do enjoy the combination of soap opera and spy thriller that is characteristic of Alias. I've never thought of it as "just" a spy show--it's also got elements of family melodrama, romance, and fantasy--so the love triangle neither bothers nor surprises me. That said, I wouldn't want to see it take over the show, either. It's the mix of genres that fascinates me.

As for the scenes of next week's ep, I'd love to see "bad" Sydney. I enjoy it when shows do dark twists on their protagonists. :ewink:
