View Full Version : So, Any Gilmore Girls Fans Out There?

I'm just wondering how many fans of the Gilmore Girls we have here. When it first came out, I thought it was just going to be another feel-good family show that would be really boring. Instead, it was a stellar show with a fabulous cast that really knows how to play off one another. I love the small town factor (been there, done that!), the love interest tension, the family frustrations, and the great sarcasm and pop culture references. Very entertaining! Am I alone in this?

I'm with you! Aside from the witty, stylized dialogue, my favorite thing about Gilmore Girls is Lorelai's relationship with her parents. It gives what could be an overly sweet, insubstantial show some edge. And now that Rory's two love interests are out of the picture, I'm even happier. ;)
Edited to add: I actually take back the word "insubstantial." After some thought, I've decided it's refreshing to see a show where the stakes are relatively small (at least for mainstream TV). I typically prefer epic stories where THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE is at stake (Buffy, Angel, Farscape, etc.). So Gilmore Girls provides a nice contrast to those.

Love 'em!
Me, I like small shows with characters with small problems. And I do like Gilmore Girls. A lot. I like it because of the characters and the sense of fun and because I wish there really was a town as funny and quirky and supportive as that.
I don't require that every program solve world class problems. Quite the opposite; the older I get the less certain I become that there are workable solutions for big problems. So my requirement is that what happens entertain me in addition to making me think. Which is why I've been unhappy with The West Wing. And why I thought Mister Sterling was a snore. If nothing's going to work out, that's not my idea of entertainment. I can get that from the newspaper.

My brother-in-law hates this show, because he says nobody talks like that. My sister and I tell him that he is just too slow to keep up with the banter. My sister & I make pop culture references in conversation all the time, and she names every inanimate object in sight. He should be used to it! He tries to talk my nephew out of watching it by saying "That's a girly show", but my nephew just ignores him. He thinks Luke is "the coolest" (I think it's the backwards cap thing). I'm inclined to agree with him.
I'm glad Jess is out of the picture now too. It was just annoying, though I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of Rob Estes! I'm still having withdrawals from Silk Stalkings! I'm curious to see if they bring back Lane's boyfriend, now that Adam Brody is on The O.C. I thought he fit in well with the others (good sarcasm, quick wit). It looks like they might play the Lorelai-Luke angle now - no complaints here!

The premiere was last week. The second show is tonite. I didn't start watching this show at the beginning. It was on when one of my favorite shows was on, now that has changed. I've been trying to watch all the reruns and get caught up on everything. What I've seen, I've really liked. Smart, fast paced show.

I thought last night's ep was pretty good - however, the previews showed a couple of things that never happened in this ep. It will be interesting to see if they are in next week's show. I am not sure I like the idea of Paris apparently being key in the show still. She is SO annoying. I've known girls like that and I wanted to silence them with a ball peen hammer! :ewink:

I LOVE Gilmore Girls!!!! Lorelai is the bomb! Ok...so maybe someone my age shouldn't really say that...frell, I'm older than Lorelai! :rollin:
I'm soooooooo :bounce: glad that Jess the evil one is gone!!! Talk about annoying pain in the eema! I'd take ten of Paris if that meant that Jess would disappear and never come back!!!
I love that ....oh, wait...some of you may have not seen the 2nd eps of the season. I won't say anything until I know that everyone has seen eps 2. :D

I love this show, but I miss it every other week and I'm just too busy to tape it and watch it later. Frelling work!
I wish Loralei and Luke would just get together and be done with it. That story line has gone on too long. I too am glad that Jessie is gone. Yuck, I didn't like him at all.

Eiley? Eiley from SF-Fandom FS board and Barscape - is that you? :D
I'm with you on the Lorelai/Luke issue...but it seems that maybe this year...will be THE year? Rory's off to college....

IMO that would be the death of the show. It happens every time. Two characters dance around each other for several seasons, as everyone wonders "will they or won't they". And when they eventually do there is nothing left for the fans to wonder about and the show dies. It is obvious that Luke and Lorelai love each other, but their releationship just seems to be one of those that will (or should)never happen. Maybe in the very last episode Rory will finally confront Lorelia about it, asking her why she never took the initiative when it was so painfully obvious that Luke has always adored her (I am imagining a conversation very like a scene in "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" - the movie not the tv show. If you've seen the movie you probably know which scene I'm talking about. The shippers on this board would love it). The last scene would be Lorelia going to the diner, where Luke is closing up for the night. She walks up to him and throws her arms around him. Fade to black.
I don't see it as the kiss of death. Luke and Loralei are such independent souls that their courtship and then relationship would continue to be funny and charming. It's obvious they're crazy about each other. I'd get a kick out of the two of them trying to figure out how to deal.

I agree. It's one thing if they marrying them off, having kids, etc. Then the show just goes downhill. But if they can keep the relationship fresh and witty, I think it would be fine. There are a lot of ways to keep the tension going. Look at Farscape! Plus, Lorelai already drives Luke crazy - he may as well be getting something for his trouble! :ewink:

That's me! :D I wanted to change my name when I came here, but I decided to stay with Eiley. I don't come here to often and usually just fly through a few threads when I do. I'm a Barscape Junkie, but can't get there as much as I'd like anymore.
I like to stop over here and see the fun Farscape stuff that shows up. This place amazes me with the stuff people come up with and the amount people post.
