OK, I admit it. I like "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy". [I read in his column that Matt Roush does too!] Those guys are really funny and they do a pretty good job of helping the hapless, styleless, messy-living-space straight guys out. And they are genuinely happy for their straight guy's successes as they watch the final result. It's my second favorite makeover show (What Not To Wear - BBC version is #1). Bravo for the Bravo Channel in creating a great, uniquely different show that works! I hope the hosts stay the way they are and don't let all the fame go to their heads.

Maybe Bravo will bring buy Queer as Folk from Showtime and then cancel Queer Eye citing rating problems and overbudgeting. But that would NEVER happen, right?

I doubt if Bravo would do a silly thing like that. I mean, who would be so stupid as to cancel their best show and alienate all their best fans? That would be idiotic. I'm sure that would never ever happen to any show........ absurd.
[Actually, I don't know anything about Queer As Folk. I get Showtime but never had any inkling to watch it. I pretty much stick to HBO for premium channel original series. But QAF doesn't seem to have near the amount of buzz that Queer Eye has.]

It's just to gay....I'm not into it at all, I can handle Six Feet Under much better....I just don't get into to guys tongueing each other...The dudes makeing the guys over does work...men just don't know how to dress for the most part.

It's just too gay....

Am I the only one that found that funny?

Quite frankly, I find TLC's Trading Spaces MUCH more entertaining and a lot less annoying that QE. The things I've learned.... DON'T paint someone's wedding gifts, DON'T paint over antique wood furniture, DON'T touch the fireplace (unless it's absolutely butt-ugly), and DON'T glue straw hay on the living room walls (especially if kids live there).

Hey, I've learned from QE that you really can tell someone they need nosehair clippers without getting smacked. And that ears can be waxed.:fear:
That's educational, right?

Bravo has ordered 40 more episodes- don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.
And for the record- it is a funny show! Harmless, good-spirited fun which is much needed at times....

As a queer guy, I find Queer As Folk extremely unwatchable. I spent most of my twenties trying to avoid people like the ones portrayed.
As for Queer Eye, well, I think it's great show regardless of whether the guys are gay or not. Little things do help us feel better about ourselves. Like a great haircut to snazzy clothes, to candles and a neat home. But queer guys and straight guys have not been portrayed as ever having anything in common. Heck, I have a lot of straight guy friends and we have much more to talk about than hair product and appetizer recipes. But the show makes me feel good, and the underlying theme is "hang out with gay guys and you'll get laid". Believe it.:)

I love Queer Eye, it's hilarious! I always enjoy Carson's sharp/witty/sarcastic comments. It's a cool show, my boyfriend even watches it with me.

I LOVE QE! It's such a hoot! My husband even loves it - so much that HE's the one that reminds me that it's on! The scary thing is that he does a dead-on imitation of Carson. :D He's considering reprising his Lorne costume and doing "Demon Eye for the Human Guy" at the Far Point masquerade. :D Not to mention that I'm getting lots of good decorating ideas from it. It's giving me the painting bug...
I just wish that Kyan and/or Jai were bi instead of queer. I'd be willing to try to turn them into switch-hitters. :ewink:
Any ideas who the FS guys (besides John, who would be the "victim") would map into: Here's mine:
Rygel - Food (DUH!)
D'Argo - Fashion (especially that outfit from VM!)
Crais - Decorating (for the cool decor on Talyn)
Scorpius - Grooming (love those black gums!)
I guess that leaves either Stark or Braca for "culture".

LOL.... I'd pick Braca over Stark, since he seems to be good at getting along with (and kissing up to) any authority figure.
I agree about Kyan.... he's pretty tasty. :ewink:

They should have a "Queer Eye for the SciFi" where the guys would fix up the SciFi Channel. It could use some help!!

It would be a slash fan's dream. :D They'd have Daniel Jackson finally hooking up with Jack O'Neill, John Crichton hooking up with Scorpy, Crais, D'Argo, Stark, and/or Rygel. And Scorpy and Braca, too... :D They'd bring back I-Man to have Fawkes and Hobbes getting quicksilvered, not to mention Eberts and the Official. :D
Of course, they'd REALLY reimagine Battlestar Galactica. At least Starbuck would be a man... :D

Braca has been completly loyal to Scorpy and is obviously enamoured of him; I for one would be happy to see Scorpy throw him a bone.

They could start by removing Bonnie's foot from her mouth...... or at least giving her stylish shoes if she insists on keeping it there!

hi all,
I am a fan of this show. how can you not be. It's just so funny. Who's watching the Mathon that is on Bravo right? I know that I am. And did anyone watch the ep on NBC tonight? I did.
AnnieBW

I think the one that was on NBC, with the Greek kickboxing instructor, was probably the best one. He really bought into the whole idea of it, and everyone loved the changes for the better.
I normally despise "reality" shows with a purple passion. I've only seen one episode of "Survivor", and that was when it was delayed and I was waiting for CSI to come on. But I really like QE because it's POSITIVE. The guys sign up for this themselves because they want to make changes in their life, but they don't know where to start. As snarky as Carson and the other guys are, they really care about their "victims" and want them to succeed.
Heck, if they ever do a DC version of QE, I wanna sign my husband up! :D

I never ever thought I would ever see anything this postive about being gay. At least in my lifetime. It's very cool.

Hey, I know that this is horribly cliched, but one of my closest friends is gay, and he turned me on to the show. And frankly, I'd rather spend time with a bunch of gay men and lesbians than a bunch of uptight Fred Phelps clones. As my friend Arthur says, "why do you think they call us GAY? We knowhow to have a good time!"

Hey, did anybody watch the new Southpark episode Wednesday night where they made fun of Queer Eye/the metrosexual fad? I hadn't seen a new SP in ages, but decided to watch when I saw the preview. It was pretty funny, and the "crab people" part of it came out of nowhere (as usual).

Well, first off, straight guys and queer guys can get along just fine. It was a little scary for me as a straight guy to realize that so many of my good male friends are gay, but after the initial shock, no problem.
What IS interesting is the fact that gay guys are often MORE surprised at just how similar guys really are, regardless of orientation, than straight guys are. I've heard "straight guys do that too?" more than a few times. Hey, guys are guys (unless they've had the surgery, and we won't talk about that!).
However, Queer Eye is a little over the top. Nobody I know who is gay is anything like Carson, and I think his attempt to flame it up to be entertaining may do a disservice to certain stereotypes.
The food dude seems a little more realistic and low key.

What bugs me the most , is that I'm mature woman and I can't even dress that good....It's just a crime that those dudes (the ones that talk a little to happy) just seem to know... what it takes...did they play dress up when they were little...sure wasn't GI Joes....http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/LaLaLa.gif

I watched QE when it first came out and really liked it. However, with the 2nd season, a couple of them, especially the blond guy (Carson?) are just camping it up too much. They were much better earlier on. Low-key but funny.
My gay guy friends say they have become too much like drama queens and need to tone it down.
Even so, it's better than most of the prime-time shows this season.

Hi Annie,

Gotta post this before I leave for my 4 day weekend.
I was in a pub last night having dinner and a pint or two. It was a slow night and a mostly older crowd. Got there around 7:30 and assumed that at 8 the Boston Bruins hockey game would be shown on most or all of the tv's there. So 8:00 comes and goes and no hockey. Instead they are showing.....Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. In a Pub! And no, it wasn't a gay bar. I coudn't believe it. I thought I had slipped into some alternate universe. I asked the waitress about it and she said that the people at the bar had requested it.

Oh, yeah. The man is an embarrassment to Humans everywhere.
To get back to more positive things, last night's QE was pretty good. I was taking notes on what Thom did with the vaulted ceilings in the house, since our house has high vaulted ceilings and a lot of space, too. But we have more furniture than those folks do - but our walls look about the same! :D I've only managed to paint two bathrooms.
