Did anyone watch? It conflicted with my charmed and tarxena, so I missed it tonight. Was it any good?

I wanted to watch too...but there were too many things on at the same time. From the looks of it, it's on again on Saturday at 7 pm.
I can't believe they kept it to one room. That's as much as a HOUSE in some places...and they only did a ROOM? Geez...

I saw about half of it. It was interesting, but I think I like the regular stuff better. They did end up doing three connecting rooms in one of the houses and it looked fabulous, but still...
Yeah, they are doing an "encore presentation" next Saturday at 7:00 pm EST.

I did notice that this was the ONLY time Doug has ever explained what he was going to do to the room up front. He even had a diagram and a nifty pointer! :rollin:

Doug does crack me up. :) I like Vern's work though...his rooms are all so....soothing. :)
Can't stand Kia...after the military house....I was so mad I wrote a LETTER! And we all know how mad I have to be to do that eh!?

Yeah, Kia's a flake, alright, but I don't remember the military house...
I love Vern - his rooms are so functional and liveable. Some of the designers go tooo far. I also have liked some of Frank's and Geniveve's rooms. I just saw parts of the 100 grand show. Doug's design was okay for once, but didn't see the reveal on the other room. Will have to make note to watch Saturday.
Yes - the military room was horrible and then room with the swinging bed was too weird and then her room with the artificial turf that looked like a grave! I would die if I did the show and Kia was my designer.

I always thought Hildy was bad..but Kia...sheesh.
The military room angered me to tears...I was so upset I said I would NEVER watch again. In fact, it's taken me this long to come back around and it's still only hit or miss for me.
What happened was that they went to a military base in Illinois and did two military families. The woman said she wanted something that felt like a "real home" since she and her family were always moving and constantly surrounded by the military. (I'm with her on that one.) She asked that the room be warm and family friendly..and specifically said she didn't want anything all "Hoo-rah" or "USA"...not because she wasn't patriotic, but because she lived her life on a daily basis surrounded by all of that. She wanted an escape FROM it.
Kia went in and did the room "military chic". (I was SO IRKED.) She painted EVERYTHING silver/gray and did ALL of the furnishings in black...and anything fabric was done in winter/gray camoflage. She TOTALLY MADE THE WOMAN'S LIVING ROOM MILITARY! :irate: I wrote a nasty letter about how that woman's life is NOT a design...it's her LIFE and she wanted an escape from it..and how DARE they decide that this woman, whose hubby is a pilot and gone all the time, NEEDS to be SURROUNDED by MILITARY FURNISHINGS! :irate: I cannot tell you how that one ticked me off.
Incidentally, Kia is from Philadelphia and I heard an interview with her from a local home show. She said that she received TONS of email about that military house and she was afraid she was going to get fired from it. I mean the WOMAN CRIED WHEN SHE CAME HOME! She broke down in SOBS. It was horrible.

The military house was the first one of Kia's that I saw. It was just awful. Her rooms tend to look cheap and shoddy IMHO. With Hilde, you get the idea that she's trying to expand people's ideas of what can be done with a room, even if it's often at the home-owners expense.
I liked that 100,000 ep. But it struck me more as trading spaces meets This old house. I wouldn't want to see them do it very often though, It's a lot easier to do a room for $50,000 than for $1,000, but more people can afford to do a $1,000 room.

Ohhh! I love Vern's rooms. Is he still on? I hope so. His rooms look like they are worth much more then the 1000 dollars that he spends.
I remember that Military room of Kia's! That is the only one my mother STILL talks about! :grr: That and something Hildy did...
I just wonder what the hell she is thinking!?! Straw on the walls, with kids? And the flowers she stuck all over that bathroom. How are you supposed to dust them? :eh:
The only problem I have with Doug is that he can be a Diva at times. That bugs me. It is like he, and sometimes the other designers, can't get it through their heads that the people who are doing the work might have an idea or two of their own.

Hildy and the flowers! Yeah! I forgot about that one! Forget dusting them...they were in a bathroom...they are probably growing all sorts of spores on their own by now! :lol

Dont forget the 'fried egg' dining room. Where she painted the walls black, the table bright yellow and then put a 40 bulb light fixture above it?
I still want to know how long it lasted until it blew a fuse. Or how hot it got under those lights, or if the dinner guests went blind...

:rollin: Just caught the end of that one.....
Sometimes I wonder what these designers are thinking..and then I realize. There are the ones who don't care about the functionality of the house...they just want a cover of some designer mag.
That's one of the reasons I LOVE Monster House. The host, Steve, is ALWAYS saying "People have to live here folks. Do it right. Make sure they can use it." :D
