Earlier this week, I tipped my buddy shamecube on some upcoming televisual events, and he suggested that I share my recommendations with other people here. Perhaps this thread can become the model for an index of ongoing, weekly television recommendations and special events, since, sadly there's so little to watch since Farscape went off the air...

Oh, and by the way - this isn't just for Tivo owners - 'Tivo' in this instance is just a figure of speech, and the concept can equally apply to setting your VCR, or marking your calendar for 'appointment viewing'. Hopefully, others will follow my lead here, and post their own recommendations.

My first four recommendations:

Nip/Tuck Marathon Weeklet
@Oct. 15-19, 10pm FX
Everybody's been talking about it, now's your opportunity to catch the first 10 episodes, from the beginning: FX (basic cable) will be rebroadcasting 'Nip/Tuck' for 5 nights in a row, each night, starting at 10pm EST, 2 episodes each night.

'Blow-Up' (1966), dir. Michelangelo Antonioni
@Tuesday Oct. 14th, 2:30am, Turner Classic Movies
I've been waiting literally years for Turner to show this film, but I've been too lazy to find out if it's available on DVD, and too cheap to try to locate it on VHS. This is the CLASSIC Antonioni film featuring David Hemmings, and Vanessa Regrave - mum of 'Nip/Tuck's Joelly Richardson. This is the film that defined the swinging London of the '60s, and strangely enough, it's a murder-mystery, responsible for spawning Francis Ford Coppola's 'The Conversation' (1974), and was sort of remade as Brian DePalma's 'Blow Out' (1981). Soundtrack by Herbie Hancock. Six nights, two Redgraves - can't go wrong there...

'Westworld' (1973)
@Thursday Oct. 16, 3:00am, SciFi
O.k., yeah, it's on Skiffy :frown: but it's another classic that the programming geniuses have stuck away at an unwatchable hour. This is another item I've been waiting for Turner to put in rotation, but alas, I'll have to tape it from Skiffy and edit out the commercials myself. Yul Brynner as the gun-slinging Android, with Richard Benjamin and James Brolin. Written and Directed by Michael Crichton (his directorial debut).

'Queen of Blood' (1966)
@Showtime Beyond, Oct. 23, 28 & Nov. 15
Sure, it's 1966 and a little cheesy, but it's got John Saxon and a very young Dennis Hopper in it. It's also one of the two reputed inspirations for Ridley Scott's 'Alien' (1979), and what better way to get into the mood for that film's 25th Anniversary re-release (this month!) than to review it's source material (the other film being 1958's 'It! The Terror From Beyond Space').

If you are interested in source material for 'Alien' then try to find 'DarkStar' by John Carpenter. Although they are very different films, since they were both written by Dan O'Bannon, (no relation, I think...) there are some similarities.

Dan O'Bannon also wrote 'Lifeforce' (1981) which also was in rotation earlier this month - the first 15 mins. of which is basically a self-plagiarisation of 'Alien'. But that's not why I logged back in... I wanted to note the following:

'The Conversation' (1974)
@ Oct. 12, 13,18,19, IFC
Mentioned previously, Francis Ford Coppola's between 'Godfather' 1&2 flick, inspired in equal parts by Hitchcock, Antonioni's 'Blow Up', and the concurrent Watergate investigation. Featuring Gene Hackman, Frederic Forrest, Cindy Williams and a pre-Han, pre-Indy Harrison Ford.

@ 12:15am EST, Monday Oct. 13, Turner Classic Movies
The ORIGINAL Dracula flick is showing in the wee hours of the morning, this Monday, after 'Carnivale' on HBO, or during 'Carnivale', if you're on the West Coast.

'Children of the Damned' (1964)
@ 4:30am EST, Monday Oct. 20, Turner Classic Movies
An apparently inferior sequel to 'Village of the Damned' but probably worth catching.

'Time Bandits' (1976)
@ 6:05am EST, Tuesday Oct. 21, Showtime Beyond

'Logan's Run' (1976)
@ 1:30am EST, Thursday Oct. 23, Turner Classic Movies

I might add that 'Karen Sisco' is also re-running on USA on Friday nights at 12:00 midnight, for those who are missing it b/c of the 'Enterprise'/'Angel'/'Street Time' bloc that runs on Wednesday nights. And speaking of Carla Gugino, she appears in

'She Creature' (2001)
@ 5:40pm EST, Thursday Oct. 16, HBO Zone
Most of these HBO 'Creature Features' have been Arkoff and/or Roger Corman knock-offs, but this one was both original and well done. And this one features both Rufus Sewell and Gil Bellows in supporting roles.
