The phone rings. The caller I.D. says: R. Rittman. I don't know an R. Rittman. I pick it up.

Eric: Hello?

Woman: Hey there buddy! (creepy witchy voice)

Eric: Who is this?

Woman: This is your mother-in-law.

Eric: really?

Woman: Yes and I know where your mother is.

Eric: How do you know where my mother is?

Woman: I just talked to her yesterday.

Eric: Where is my mother?

Woman: In Florida.

Eric: She's not in Florida.

Woman: Where is she then?

Eric: She's in Indiana.

Woman: (cackling laugh) She's making her way up north pretty fast, then.

Eric: She's been there for years. She hasn't been to Florida in six years.

Woman: Now that's a damn lie.

Eric: Who is this?

Woman: Your mother in law.

Eric: I don't have a mother in law.

Woman: Yes you do.

Eric: No I don't.

Woman: Yes you do.

Eric: No I don't. I don't know you. I'm not married.

Woman: Why are you doing this?

Eric: I'm not married at all.

Woman: Well, I guess I don't know you then. I was trying to reach Eric.

Question: What a coincidence that her son-in-law's name was Eric. Anyway, the effect was chilling.

I assume - possibly incorrectly - that she got your number from an operator somewhere, as in:Woman
Do you have a listing in Tennesee for an 'Erik D.'

Operator
I'm showing an Eric D. in YourTown, Tennesee -

Woman
That must be it! Can you connect me?Of course, this idea doesn't hold water if this woman has a daughter married to an 'Eric D.' somewhere in the state of Tennesee - you'd think that the woman would actually keep track of her daughter's home phone number. But you never know - maybe the daughter ran away from 8 Mile Rd. to become an Opry singer or a Rap Artist. You never know...

But it sounds like you stayed on the phone out of sheer curiosity - her 'in-law' comment was a complete strike-out...

Hey - did you watch 'Sisters' the other night?

That wasn't your friend's mother, was it Eric? (sorry don't remember his name) I thought you'd met her and would know her voice, though.
