Awwww... dude, you hung up her jacket? Awwww...

Kurt_eh
03-12-2004, 09:15 PM
Yep. Helped her put it on, afterwords too.

After dinner we both drive over to the movie theatre to meet up at the Chapters store next door. :book:

I rush over to the cinneplex and double check on the start time (neither of us remembered to check it before dinner :innocent: ) 9:30, right when we thought it would be! :aok:

I get to Chapters and find her at one of the magazine stands, checking out an article on Aitkins (we've both got friends on the diet and talked a bit about it over dinner). There was still well over 45 minutes till showtime, so we decided to explore the store a bit. :candle:

New releases: I pointed out my favourite book from 2002: Yann Martel's Life of Pi :boat: (plug plug). She says that she hasn't read much fiction lately, but has been reading some history and biographies. Her current reading project is "The Prize" a book about the history of the oil industry. This reminds me of an upcoming technical convention where author Simon Winchester (Krakatoa: the day the World Exploded, The Professor and the Madman, The Map that Changed the world) will be speaking at a luncheon seminar.

She doesn't recognise Winchester, so we go over to the history section :charge: and I show her the books. Krakatoa, about the dawn of the information age, Professor, about the writing of the OED, and Map, about William Smith's geological map. The first geological map in the world (a topic near and dear to my heart):squish:

She's known for a long time about my affinity for SF&F, so she asks about some of the Fiction I've been reading. We discuss the last few Canada Reads http://img26.photobucket.com/albums/v77/m.bear/smiley_1227.gif novels. Then we head over to the SF, and I point out my present reading project: The Tain by China Mieville. (plug plug).

Walk back through the bigoraphy section, but nothing really catches her eye. It's now about nine, so we walk over to the theatre.

I humbly accept her offer when she insists that since I picked up dinner, she picks up the movie. We're both still pretty stuffed from dinner, so we forgoe the :pop: and I buy a round of :otc:

We head into the theatre, and take our seats :frontrow:

We chat some more durring the "slide show" :paparazzi

Then the movie starts. Starski and Hutch a couple of :rallydriv 'in :pi: 's

Movie Review :bounce: :bouce: :blob: /5

Movie finishes, we both head for some "relief" (Thai food+lots of water to put out the fire+moviepop or juice = :eek2: )

Meet up again in the lobby and she realizes her purse is back in the theatre. We go back in to find it, and I see it right away.

It's the end of the night and I walk her to her car http://mindscraps.com/s/contrib/drowned/iroc-white.gif

I wish her well on her camping trip this weekend, and she says she'll call me next week.

A couple of :bigwave: and the night was over...

for now?

Nicola

That sound like a very sucessful evening! I especially like the lurking in Chapters before the movie started. How very erudite of you - showing her you are not just an geologist grunt! :rollin: :rollin: :rollin:

And SHE is going to call YOU next week! (Oh, a week of sitting by the phone :) ) Sounds quite promising. Let her set the pace for a bit. Good job.:D

Kurt_eh

Yes it has.....:D:D

BTW does anyone know of a good home facial? I tried one with strawberries last week. It was ok but not what I wanted.

AgentSun
03-25-2004, 09:55 PM
are you looking for a mud mask, a cream mask (not mud, but still hardens on your skin), or a peel? the peel isn't as gross as you think. i have a cucumber melon peel cleanser that works all right...for me though i have dry skin on my face sometimes and it made it a little more drier so i stopped using it.

as for cream mask, i use neutrogena deep clean oil controlling mask. its one of their new products.

i also like mud masks though those are more expensive and you'd probably have to look in a specific place for them...wal-mart fodder these are not!

http://search.atomz.com/search/?sp-q=facial&sp-a=0003195c-sp00000000

that is a result list that came up when i searched for "facial" on spaindex.com. enjoy the recipes!

BrowderChick
03-25-2004, 10:14 PM
Thanks...some of those looked good. I prefer a mud or cream. I have dry skin and the past few weeks of stress and BS took a toll on my skin. I have very sensitive skin so I like to control what goes on it. :D

Kurt_eh
03-25-2004, 10:33 PM
yeah, we're having fun.

Can't help you with the facial, though...

So, back to the true topic of this thread . . . :ewink:

Went and got the Mirena on Thursday. OUCH!!! Well, it wasn't that bad at first. When she put it in, it was just "Ouch." Then the pain went away, and I felt fine for fifteen minutes. However, when I got out to the parking lot and started up the car, the cramps came back BIG TIME. Dizzy, felt like I was going to vomit, felt like someone was fondling my guts with a clawed gauntlet. Okay, lay down in the back of the car and wait for it to pass. Geez, that reminded me of childbirth. Some while later, just as I'm thinking I should go back into the office, it eases enough to drive home.

That half hour drive felt like three hours, trying not to vomit and pass out (it came back when I was stuck on the highway.) Managed to get home and into the bathroom before the stomach finally decided to stage a revolt and oust its contents. Ah! Much better! The cramps were just as bad, but the dizziness and nausea were gone. Went to bed and fell asleep.

24 hours later, lots of sleep, and a few doses of drugs, and I felt fine. Everything's back to normal now, and I'm glad I got it.

:bounce:

BrowderChick
03-27-2004, 03:52 PM
 Glad you are feeling so much better. I remember that feeling. When I got mine the pain lasted a week but not nearly as bad as the pain when it was first put in. I think I broke 3 of my nails when that happened. But I am glad I did it. Nothing to remember and nothing to really worry about. :D:D

BrowderChick
03-31-2004, 10:27 PM
So how is it going?

BlackThorn
04-01-2004, 08:57 AM
Still doing good. Keep having mild cramps at least once a day, usually when I'm feeling tired and have been pushing myself harder than I should. Bleeding a bit more than usual for this time, but not much. Other than that, I'm doing great and am experiencing none of the other side effects so far!

BrowderChick
04-01-2004, 04:32 PM
The cramps will go away and the bleeding will slow down. But one of the side effects is mild bleeding for about a month straight or so. But its nothing major. It will subside and then you may be a lucky one and lose that all together. :D

BlackThorn
04-01-2004, 06:55 PM
Yeah, I expected the spotting and cramping for the beginning. And I hope I'm one of the lucky ones that will have it go away altogether. If not, the decrease would still be a big help, considering how bad it usually is every month.

BrowderChick
04-01-2004, 08:21 PM
Yeah it will decrease as the lining gets thinner. That is a major plus. And the cramping will go away as well soon. The spotting will be there for a while though as the lining is getting rid of itself.

Oh the boys must be loving this conversation. But then again its the only way they learn anything...:D:D

BlackThorn
04-01-2004, 08:35 PM
Oh, I could so easily taks this to a whole new level which would probably scar the boys here for life, but I'm not that mean. We still haven't talked about the "strings", the mucous thing, the possible but very rare dangers, just what is specifically involved in inserting this, etc . . . But no, I'm not that mean. :ewink:

BrowderChick
04-01-2004, 08:43 PM

Haha...glad to see this thread is alive and well.

Now, on a more depressing note, since we seem to discuss these issues in here from time to time:

I just found out my best friend's mom has breast cancer. This is not just some friend's mom though. This is my best friend that I've known since elementary school. We grew up in each others houses. We call each others parents mom and dad. I've called her mom for advice when I couldn't get ahold of my parents, and she's done the same with mine.

Now her mom has breast cancer, and I'm supposed to know what to say to her, and what to do to make her feel better, because my mom had breast cancer when I was in high school. (My mom has been cancer free for seven years, by the way...yay!). But the thing is, I have no clue what to do, and I finding, now that I try and think about that time, I have almost no memory of the entire year my mom was really sick, even though I was 16 at the time. There's nothing I can say, because I DON'T know what it's like, because I don't remember.

For example, I was at my parents' summer house about a year ago, and I found a journal from when I was 16. I was reading it, and I had whole entries talking about how angry I was at her for being so sick. This isn't that suprising, because that's a normal teen reaction to illness in the family, but I was shocked simply because I have no recollection of feeling that way.

What do I say to my friend? What can I do to best help her through this situation? Should I admit that I don't really know what I'm talking about?

We don't know how bad it is yet...all we know is that it IS cancer.

I am sorry to hear that. But regarding advice, everybody handles stress differently. I would say that you should just be there for your friend, offering a shoulder to cry on when it is needed, and to be there for her mom as well. People when they're sick tend to shun loved ones away, as they do not like to be viewed in such a vulnerable state. Also, the loved ones sometimes shy away as they are frustrated at the situation, in that there is nothing physically that they can do for the person(i.e. magically make the illness go away).

My advice, then, would to just be there for your friend and your "mom" as well. Whatever happens(and I hope for the best), that is the best thing that a person can do. Be there.

I hope that I was able to help. I'm not very good with this kind of stuff. :(

The pets?

Well, the cats should be happier soon, as we are moving to a bigger apartment. They've been fighting quite a bit. I think they just need a little more room to cool off when one of them gets pissy.

The rats are doing great, and I am getting two more (girls, and they are being spayed next week so that they can live with my boys).

We don't know how bad it is yet...all we know is that it IS cancer. I have to say what everyone else is saying...to just be there. Your friend probably doesn't expect you to know exactly what to say. There will be times when your friend will probably be at her lowest, and I can tell you from experience that during those times, it helps just to have friends just to be there...even if it's to ask how her day went..or just to talk about nothing in particular. It's a great comfort to have friends that can lend a shoulder when it's needed and it will mean a lot. My prayers will be with all of you.

What does a rising, underground pillar of mobile salt have to do with anything?

and

diapir

1. n. [Geology] ID: 152

A relatively mobile mass that intrudes into preexisting rocks. Diapirs commonly intrude vertically through more dense rocks because of buoyancy forces associated with relatively low-density rock types, such as salt, shale and hot magma, which form diapirs. The process is known as diapirism. By pushing upward and piercing overlying rock layers, diapirs can form anticlines, salt domes and other structures capable of trapping hydrocarbons. Igneous intrusions are typically too hot to allow the preservation of preexisting hydrocarbons.
