but wow... I really needed this. Excellent television again.

WOW!!! Jack is losin' it, big-time! And who taught Kim computers? Warning: blonde with a computer! Given her track record with boyfriends, Jack's partner is toast. :D
Loved Principal Wood as Palmer's younger brother! Although we kept making BTVS jokes throughout his scenes. And Palmer crossing racial lines? Hmmm.... I'm wondering how much hate mail FOX is gonna get for that?
And Jack on smack, indeed! When did Noranti get into CTU?
Oh, this is gonna be one great year!!!

I figured Jack on smack earlier in the hour. Salazar and Chase were a bit "on the nose" with their comments about what happened to him in the past year. I'm sure the backstory will show that Salazar hooked him while he was undercover.
 Jack's partner is toast...although they've given Kim a more intelligent haircut and wardrobe since last year, maybe they had a brain installed, too. Either that or she stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night :goof:
Think Almeda will get out of the CTU building this year?
I loved the president's comment "Its going to be another one of those days." Hahahahahahahahahah!

Hubby guessed the drugs pretty much right away although for a few minutes he wondered if Jack was having relapses from the heart stoppage second season.
Kim? I have hope. She is more of an adult now than she was in the first two seasons. During both of those she was still a teenager and well...if they're seeking attention they can be stupid. MAYBE this season she'll become a force to be reckoned with?
Tony's decision not to go is stupid. A job could open up for her at any time...and sacrificing the move of a career because of bad timing is not smart. Then again, this comes from a military wife who is used to living without her husband while he's doing his job. Still...I LOVE that they are married. :)
And Kate Warner? If Jack gets straight...maybe they'll go back together. Sounds like that was the reason he dumped her.
Anyone trust the woman the Pres is dating? He doesn't have the best insight when it comes to women... :lol

Finally, a show is back on the air that makes me look forward to watching TV!
Jack on smack: I thought he was acting like that because he was having heart problems from last season's death/resurection. I didn't get the smack addiction until the kid told him to get himself straight... I said NO WAY did they make Jack a heroine addict... but they did.
Was that Methadone in that vial he had, or was it the good stuff? Do we have any smack addicts on FMD?
Here's some things I hope happen this season:
(1) I hope Tony does leave the building this season. (2) I hope Kim doesn't get kidnapped this season. (3) I hope Nina is back just long enough for Jack to disembowel her. (4) I hope they go at least 12 episodes before Jack cuts off someone's finger/head and then carries it around with him (I doubt they can go 12 eps though). (5) I hope President Palmer physically whips somebody's ass this season. AND (6) I hope Ford stops doing those creepy commercials.

I still have to watch the end of last season (I have it on tape but haven't finished it yet), so I'm a little behind. But of course I've heard what happened at the end; it was just unavoidable.
I miss Lady MacBeth Palmer! Bring on the bitch, I say.
Kim with a brain. Hmmmm. Well, at least there was no menacing wildlife in the area.
I'm so relieved the Prez survived, and found a cool younger bro. Maybe his son will be scarce this season, which is fine with me.

Ahhh, finally quality arced TV returns. A series with an arc, for those of you in Rio Linda.
It's been 3 years since the last season, Kim has had time to mature, but I too hope we don't get a steady dose of the 'whiney' Kim this season.
Tony stays in the office this season. Sorry folks. I forsee a marital spat developing. More office politics. And don't think that Palmer's ex won't make an appearance this season.
grin, I'm with you, can't wait for the back story to develop.
This is gonna be great...

Great stuff. I agree with akimbo, I figured it out early. It's a great show, and this may be the most edge of your seat one yet.

the only thing i hate about 24 is having to wait 1 week between eps, and sometimes even 2 weeks!! :grr: :grr:
The rest, I love it!!!

I have a friend who is taping a month at a time so he can watch them all together...right before the next month's eps are ready. LOL.

The premiere was extremely slow compared to how 24 usually is. I found myself bored very quickly.

Love this thread as I have never seen the show before so need to figure out the characters. I had heard great things about it - but will say that I thought it moved a little slowly - but that helped me .
I am not a "FMD drug addict" but do know that methadone is not usually injected - but taken by mouth if a person is using it in a legal program to get off heroin. I guess by the upset partner that Jack is not in a drug rehab program- LOL.
This show seemed a bit like MI5 in the flow and atmoshere.
By the way the President's doctor and ??girlfriend is played by Wendy Crewson - well known Canadian actress.
Loved Principal Woods - will we have any more Buffy people on the show??
I am really looking forward to next week - great show !

I don't think that 24 is like MI5. I'm not a fan of MI5, nothing against the show, the eps I did see did nothing for me.

I agree that 24 is not like MI5 - but it just had some of the same spy game atmosphere to me- fast moving and set often in a secure modern building. This is the first epi of 24 I have seen so just made the quick superficial comparison.
Look forward to seeing more of 24 !!

Well, Jack didn't cut off anybody's head in this premier. Still it seems to me that last season the first part of the last season was very accelerated, but slumped in the middle (briefly) then picked up. The first season was full steam ahead for 24 episodes, which can be tough to pull off.
I'm okay with 24 taking its time for all Hell to break lose.

I just have to chime in and say that I agree with those who feel like there is now SOMETHING NEW worth watching, once a week.
Reruns of other quality shows are fine, but fresh is so much more exciting!

Yes it is the lovely Ms. Crewson.
She seems ill used in American film (I think she plays the President's wife in that Harrison Ford flick). Hopefully they will use her to advantage here.

Well, there isn't spoiler space on this info above, so my putting it here would be pointless...
I was just glad the President was involved with an adult, rather than a chippy. So often women who are unreasonably young are cast by default, regardless of circumstance or appropriateness!

I still like Sherry, though! That woman was eeeeevil! It took a while to stop thinking of Penny Johnson Jerald as Kasidy Yates from DS9, but once I did, it was hard to think of her as anything but Sherry Palmer!

OMG... I completely forgot about DS9. Shouldn't Sherry be in jail by now? Or at leas Guantanamo? (sp)

Oh. My. God.
I just saw the ep after killing myself the past 4 days for not having time to see it and I must vent my surprise...
HOLY CRAP
Poor Jack. :(
And Stupid!Kim's plotline for this season appears to yet again be...stupid.
I want to marry Kiefer Sutherland. Mmmmm. Yowza.
