What are other people's thoughts on the pilot - 'Sixth Sense' meets 'Run Lola Run' with a not-as-hardass Eliza Dushku? Will it last? Does it stand a chance, now that FOX has decided NOT to run Sporting Events against their new scripted dramas?

I think that this reminds me of Early Edition morphed with a morgue.
I need to see more before I make up my mind on it... but it does have Ms. Dusku in it... so that is a plus.

Well the pilot was pretty bad. The plot and characters look like they were just slapped together without any thought behind it.

I'm pretty sure Fox has already decided it's fate. The only thing that can save it is "24" type ratings and I think we know that's not going to happen. They seem to screw every new show they produce.

a tiny voice in the back of my head is thinking that Eliza should have taken Joss Whedon up on the Faith spinoff of Buffy.

Eliza Dushku, thumbs up, FOX, thumbs down. I can't see the show as it's on FOX, and being a Dish subscriber I don't qualify for networks (except for WB/UPN). I got a waiver for a couple of channels, but I couldn't see paying $2 a channel for the crap that's normally on.

Nope, it's gonna fail, hard.

I wanted to watch Tru Calling last night, but I didn't get the opportunity to since it came on the same time as Survivor. I figure the show won't last much because one, it's on Fox and they have a history of creating shows so they can cancel them and pretend that they're still active in the world of television, and two, they put it up at the same time as Survivor and Friends, so I think it might have a hard time getting much of an audience against those two.

...and two, they put it up at the same time as Survivor and Friends, so I think it might have a hard time getting much of an audience against those two. Ok, that's a little cynical, but I suppose they see themselves as offering an alternative for people (like myself) who enjoy neither 'Friends' nor reality programming. Granted they're moving out of the Friday-night genre ghetto (the 'oogah-boogah' Friday nights as one FOX Executive refered to them).

Yes, the running-around was a bit much - get that girl a PIM! - but hopefully they'll get smarter about that. I suppose we have fewer than 10 weeks to find out (10 weeks - the approximate run of 'Firefly'). But 'Tru's greatest asset is that it's new, it's something else to watch on a slow night, and the flashback transitions a sort of cool. So I guess I can live with it up until the moment she dyes her hair cellophane-pink...

Watched it. I couldn't really muster any enthusiasm for it. It was just: eh.

Could get better though, but I actually can't see how.

The pilot was not very strong, but with Eliza Dushku, I'm willing to give it another chance.

And if this show doesn't make it, here's hoping that Joss Whedon will give that girl another call...

If FOX treats this show like it did Keen Eddie , it will be even less than that.

Has anyone computed the average lifetime of a new show on Fox? I'd guess it's around 4 weeks.

My husband and I are planning to check out Arrested Development . If your guess is correct, my Sundays nights will be completely free again very, very soon.

It ranges but needless to say they haven't kept one significant show in the last 2 years. I'll give this for Fox though. They are the only network that is actually willing to innovate. Every major network just puts out the same crap season after season. They even put out similiar type shows. It's no wonder viewers are flocking to cable. Fox's only problem is they are unwilling to support the shows they put out unless they have a big name behind it.

I watched it and thought it was so-so. I think it could have potential, but I doubt Fox will give it a chance. I have to agree, the running here and there was too much. I will watch it a few more times to see if it gets any better.

They film some of the scenes for this show at my university and I got to walk though one of the scenes in the background so I watched the premiere. Didn't like it.

I thought it was rocky, but had potential, especially if the eps don't always end with Tru saving the person. A number of series that I ended up really liking had rocky first seasons (e.g., Buffy and Angel). But I doubt Tru Calling will get a chance to grow into itself, considering the time slot.

This one was a little bit better... not as much running around. But I figure out who started the fires about 15 minutes into the show... and I knew that the Firefighter wouldn't make it. Storyline seemed to be forced, it didn't flow and seemed jerky and disjointed. I hope all the episode don't follow that path... otherwise I might get tired of it fast.

But if she doesn't run how does she get from place to place? She must run, RUN!!!

Okay so the first two episodes were boring as hell and the running was incredibly stupid. However, last week's episode was actually quite good, IMO. Tru actually took a cab to get places and there wasn't any cheesy dialog. Plus the actors were actually allowed to ACT. Sure the story was a bit predictible but at least it was a step in the right direction.

If the show had started out this strong then I'd say it might have a chance but if Fox cancelled Firefly (which had higher ratings than Tru Calling) then it's just a matter of time before they get rid of this show. And Firefly was a vastly superior show. Perhaps there will be a Faith spin-off after all...

Firefly never had a chance. What network forces you to choose a random episode to play as the pilot and then show the pilot as the last episode?
