Spoilers for seasons 6 & 7.
I know there are some out there who are not fond of this show... but since you don't actually know where I live, I don't care. ;) :rollin:
I think Stargate is fun.
I was watching a rerun from the 6th season, and I think it is one of the best eps of that show. It was called ‘The Abyss’. The episode where O’Neill is captured trying to free some slave and they stick him in this cell with alternating gravity and Daniel comes to visit him in his ascended state. I guess I started this thread because I can’t stop thinking about this episode.
“Jack, who are you talking too?”
“That women.”
“There is no one there.”
“Look whose talking.”
It is just so simple and good at the same time, and it makes me wish that for the 7th season they had left Daniel Jackson ascended so that he and Jack could have more of those conversations like in this episode. (And no, it isn’t because I miss the ever-huggable Jonas Quinn… really….) But the funny thing is, I remember reading somewhere that Michael Shanks left the show because he thought his character wasn’t being used enough and that when he signed on, he was told there would be more of a conflict between his character and Jack, (like in the movie), which is exactly what this episode was. So M.S. comes back and the show goes back to what it was before he left. Is that irony? I think so. …sigh…
So, I guess I do have some issues with the fact that things happen on that show and there are never any real emotional consequences for any of them. Things just sort of go back to the way there were at the beginning of each episode. (For example: S6&7 spoiler…. Daniel Jackson comes back after being an ascended being for a year and yet, he has no problem with that. Just falls back into the routine of being an SG1 member. If I was an ascended being and then weren’t I believe I would be a little pissed off about it. Or at least have some trouble at first dealing with being, well, demoted. And the thing with his memory… come on! In just one episode he is back to his old self? They could played with that a little more IMHO.
So, what does everyone else think? Favorite quotes, episodes?
I like anything Jack says. That guy is just funny. And when anyone else mentions having to MacGuyver something! :rollin: (That will never get old in my book.)

I like Jack. They play him as too stupid sometimes, but aside from that, I like Jack. He actually HAS shown some character development... from coming to terms with his son's death to developing an even MORE unhealthy dislike to having a snake in his head.
The other characters I could take or leave.
And you are right... Sam has had, what? TWO snakes in her head? Nothin. Her DAD is a snake-head? Nothin. She's a rock.
Daniel? Yep, same thing on the ascension bit. Hell, he pulled a Mr. Spock coming back from the dead and his marbles are all back in place in no time.
Mr. Golden Tatoo Head... well, amazingly for a character without a character, at least he flipped out a little when he lost his snake for Tretonin.
But the lack of character development is exactly what makes the show accessible in re-runs... Jack is Jack, whether Season 1 or Season 7. Nobody changes, so you can always jump right in, more or less.

The only time that really bugged me was after that episode where him and Tealc (sp) kept living the same day over and over again, and those two had to learn all this stuff in order to translate some tablet... and then the next ep, he's back to being as dumb as a doorknob. WTHell??
But I think he just plays dumb most of the time because it is easier to be dumb and occasionally exceed others expectations then it is to let everyone know your full capabilities up front and have them be disappointed.
That and it's funny. ;)

Yeah, and look at all the potential boyfriends of hers that end up dead. Like that wouldn't freak a person out? :rollin:

Yeah, you know I lived in New York (well, Westcheser County) for a while...
SG-1 has NOTHING on my neighbors.. specially the 65 year old transexual who got whacked out on "Hookers Hooch" and got carted away for making a pass at a 15 year old boy.
Then there was the dude who constructed grenade launchers and carried them across state lines ("there's no law that says you can't so long as the barrel isn't rifled").... oh, wait, that was my roomie.

NYPinTA I love Stargate SG-1. I've watched it since the movie came out. I like Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O'Neil more than Kurt Russell but then I don't really care for Kurt anyway.
There are a few episodes that are absolutely wonderful and some of my favorites include the episode where time keeps repeating itself. Jack gets such an evil joy out of someone knocking Daniel flat every time. There's also a scene where mild mannered Te'alc smack someone with a door after he's been hit in the face umpteen times. I also loved the scenes where they are trying to translate the tablet and both he and Te'alc are juggling and then the pair of them are teeing off through the wormhole. That was a really fun episode.
The other episodes include the ones where Jack and Sam are trapped in the ice cavern and unable to get the Stargate to dial out ... it was actually on last night. I also love the episode where Jack is abducted by the Asgard and replaced by a teenager ... the kid that played Jack O'Neil in that episode had all the mannerisms down to a fine art ... it was a joy to watch.
No it's not rocket science (well most of the time) but it's quite an enjoyable TV show and I like it too! :aok:
BTW Jack is made to look much dumber than he really is and Rick plays him very well.

Selena, what does "at large" mean?

at large = out and about ... reporting to you live from the trenches ... in the wilderness ... a long way from home ... not in your natural habitat ... far, far away ... should I go on???

Nope, got it.
I actually poked around some of your other posts in the interim, and I guess "A long way from home" is probably the most on target.

I like Stargate have the directors cut of the movie on DVD. Great not so keen on the tv show but can watch random episodes from any series as the characters seem to always be the same. My mum is a bigger fan and watches it all the time. She will be converted to Farscape i am not giving up.:whip:

Ive watched almost all of it. The last two seasons have just been...bad though. The chemistry between the actors/actresses is great, but teh actual plot has nto been very good at all.

Ok, great defender of Stargate here. We have had this discussion before about how Stargate, the show itself, had nothing to do with Farscape's demise, in the sense you can't put blame on the producers, actors, and writers. ALL the blame goes on Sciffy execs!!! That said...
I spent all last week watching the DVD box sets of 2,3,4. I LOVED S2. Season 2 had the best plot; Tok'ra, etc. Then, wtf happened on S3? Blah, is what I say. I don't know, maybe it's b/c I've seen most of S3 and S4 in syndie. When I got the sets, I just watched what I hadn't seen.
Then, on TV last night, I watched the S6 ep with Dean Stockwell. Blah.
Overall, I love this show! They just need something new. A fresh writer's perspective, maybe?
P.S. - I thought "Urgo" was hilarious!!!

The early seasons were the best but there were a few good episodes in the latter ones. I especially liked the episode where Daniel died. Btw Jack is practically retarded now.

Might be why RDA is getting tired of SG-1.
Jack used to be cool.

I used to LOL at Jack's comments, no i'm just annoyed:grr:
This was a fun show and maybe it didn't require a lot of brain power, but it was fun, now is just stupid :grr:

If RDA is getting tired of it, why was he the first to sign up for another season? (BTW- I could be wrong about that, but I am sure I read that somewhere... probably here.)
So, Jack wasn't so dumb in the beginning? I missed a lot of the first 3 seasons.
