Personally, since he was a daughter, I'd like to see a boy. Anyone else?

Doesn't it say what it should be in Horizons?? Their eldest child was..... or something like that.

But I thought Horizons explicitly stated that it was just O'bannon's view of what COULD happen...and it wasn't necessarily the view of anyone else involved in the show.

Here comes a downer. . .
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Stillborne.
Why? 'Cause Farscape ain't a kid's show. I'd HATE to see a
Will Robinson or Wesley Crusher saving the day. That REALLY
brings a show down.
Kids and space adventures don't mix.
Go ahead and boo me, I don't care. I like science fiction for
adults, not teenagers or kids.

Well they could still have one and ...could be stolen
...could be hidden away to keep it from being stolen
...could be some genetic freak that grows really quickly
...could be some sweet little thing that knows nothing of the world and the whole crew fights to keep it that way
The possiblities are endless.
Oh Oh how about John finds another way back to Earth and sends the child there to be raised by his dad. I like this option, out of the way but still not dead.

I wish it were a girl, but I agree with scaper 989 it will either be a stillborn or die shortly after. I really don't want to see a kid in the show, unless the girl is all grown. And that girl better know how to fight (not innocent). Anyways, if there has to be a child, let it be a girl, my opinion totally.

It doesn't have to be that way though. I don't want a little Wesley Crusher running around either. But we don't know what the gestation period for Sebaceans is. If they give us season five...Aeryn could be pregnant throughout almost the entire season. That's really how I see them doing it, if the baby survives.
As for it being an adult show...yes, I agree that it is. But one very important aspect for many adults is children. And one of the thing the Farscape has been very good at is...even though it's a very outlandish show...that DO make it relate to real life. That's one of it's great stregnths, I think.

Boy, some of you can be mean, the whole stillborn thing and all.
It won't ruin the show, If they tried to do several seasons w/ the baby yeah that could get rough. Realisticly speaking we are prob talking about ONE season w/ a baby. Season 6. It will still be the tv 14 show it has been, that won't change it. It'll just insert some good new conflicts for them to all deal with.
Kalliope
11-06-2003, 07:25 AM
Or Season 5, if Season 5 would appear (God forbid!!!) to be the last one. I wonder why some people here have so little faith in Farscape writers? If they do it wisely, it won't ruin the show at all. As for me, I really want to see John/Aeryn's baby.

I've always loved this little exchange re: the baby
JOHN: Uh... maybe it's not mine at all.
AERYN: You just won't let that rest, will you?
JOHN: Maybe it has a little ponytail or a teeny-tiny goatee.
AERYN: Maybe.
JOHN: Maybe it has half a metal face on it.
AERYN: Maybe.
JOHN: Maybe it's a royal pain in the ass, eats all the time and farts alot.
AERYN: Then we'll know it's yours.
BTW, I'd love to see a little girl that looks just like Aeryn.

I'd love to see a little girl who looks like the little girl who played Aeryn as a child when Xhalax came to visit Aeryn in the nursery/dormitory or whatever it's called. What a cutie! Her eyes are gorgeous!

Personally I'd vote for a girl if I were voting for Aeryn and a boy for John (the already has a girl thing).
Also I have faith in the creators to take a concept that would destroy most shows (ie baby on baord) and make it work for them by turning it on its ear. Just like they've done with everything else in the show.

It's from one of the sequences in John's imagination in "Crichton Kicks".
Ariadne

Thanks Rydra. Actually I should have included the first part of that sequence too:
Aeryn and John are on the beach in John's mind; John is feeling for the baby's kicking.
JOHN: (laughs) There it is. That's the Crichton kick. Boy.
AERYN: Yeah, girls do kick harder.
JOHN: Uh... maybe it's not mine at all.
etc.

Well, also, a lot of the episodes have been TV PG...no one seemed to have a problem with it before.
(Yes, Padme...I am waffling on the baby issue. :D I guess I don't know what I think. I think it's possible the baby could die, but I also think it's possible that it could live, and it would still be a damn good show either way).

Okay... there's a difference between downers and beligerent downers. Guess which category your theory falls into. I think that if they went that over the top on Farscape it would be seen through as depressing for depressions sake.
This ain't no kids show, but it's not nihialistic either. Hope is the overriding message and hope is the anti-nihialism.

I think Padme based this thread on the assumption that it does. Since they're not making new eps, we all get to speculate on completely theoretical issues.

AERYN: Sikozu… we have a mission.

RYGEL: Hm?
JOHN: Gi-girl Power! Would you stop speakin' English?!

Hahaha...I don't remember that.
I just rewatched Thank God It's Friday Again, and when Aeryn said "She gives me a woody"....
I just realized today that the funniest part of that joke is offscreen. Cause at some point he would have had to say "She gives me a woody" about someone, to the rest of the crew for her to get them mixed up.

a) It would be a baby, not a teenager.
b) your implying that teenages have worst taste then adults.
Thats simply not true.
If you look at "adult" films, and "adult" computer games, they are almost far worse then "general audience" stuff.
Heck ,with computer games its often the most childish looking that are the best.
Thats not to say teenages would work well on Farscape, mearly that you should sterotype an audience as liking a certain thing.

Acoordding to Horizons, which I personally take as cannon, it is a boy named JT.

Well we already had a Wesley. His name was Jo'thee. But kids don't always kill the show, e.g. Star Trek
DS9 Jake and Nog though a little usless early on became real character latter. Voyager Naomi was a good character, we only had one ep focusing on her but it worked out well, and she had only a few appearances so we didn't get sick of this partial unnessecary character, who's only purpose was to help give Nelix more character definition. And Echeb (how ever you spell his name) was a good character as well that was rather useful.

I think this is the best approuch. Finding a short window and a way to send the child to be raised by the the Crightons, and we can have John and Aeryn fighting to protect the universe for their child, and also sending messages when they can. Of course this will cause problems when the kid is a teenager but he might be to busy working out the "I am part alien thing."

I don't see that as part of the canon. Is it O'Bannon who wrote it? Didn't he state that it was just his view and not necessarily the views of the other powers involved in Farscape? That's not canon.
padmeskywalker
11-11-2003, 06:54 AM
Yeah that is possible, remember Star Trek: TNG??? Worf's son was sent to his human parents, but then again, the real mom had been killed, unless they 'kill' Aeryn off, I dont think it would be a smart move. Baby must bond w/mother, age-old tradition... (and they better not kill Aeryn off...)
So, like you said, the baby would not nesseraily been in every episode, and not centered on (until the show comes when someone trys to kidnapp it, but...)
Judith
11-11-2003, 09:49 AM
I really think that...whether we get season five, a movie, or a miniseries, we won't see a lot of the baby, because it won't be born yet. I think the focus (at least as far as Aeryn and John's arcs are concerned) will be on Aeryn being pregnant, and the baby would probably be born VERY close to the end of the show.
padmeskywalker
11-11-2003, 10:00 AM
exactly... remeber Voyager? Baby (tom and Belanna's) was born in the series finale (of course, I would've liked to have seen his dad's reaction to her and the baby, and her dad's reaction...)
Judith
11-11-2003, 10:06 AM
For some reason, I've always felt that, given a season option, the baby would be born a few episodes from the end. That way...it avoids the whole "kid on Moya" thing that some people are worried about, but it also makes us baby crazy people happy.
padmeskywalker
11-11-2003, 10:16 AM
yeah, baby is born, we find a way back to Earth, and show everyone the baby (His family I mean...)
Judith
11-11-2003, 10:43 AM
I don't know...getting off topic a little, I think they might shy away from a totally happy ending. I don't know that he'll make it back to Earth. I could see him deciding not to use wormholes anymore.
Spedoinkel
11-11-2003, 06:35 PM
I read Horizon's as cannon until it has been made irrelevant by the series, which it hasan't yet.
And remember this is Farscape, we really don't get happy endings, we get endings. I would be fine with a sad ending as long as it was the end. Season four was not an ending because there was so much left undone.
