Anyone catch the season 2 finale!? Arghh! What the hell happened??

I guess it was meant to confuse the viewer completely. I didn't know who was telling the truth and who was lying - or who died and who didn't!! :eek2:

Oh well, Season 3 is in production for 10 eps in 2004!!

Antrobus should you mark spoilers on the thread? Just in case people are watching tapes etc. over the next few days?

All I will say for now is that I was confused as well - for all the reasons you were. As always you think they are going in one direction and off they go in another more confusing one even for spies.

Yes I have heard that a third season is being filmed - from an interview I read with the lead actor.

Oh my, that was GOOD....

Obviously too intelligent for American audiences.

Quick! Cancel it!

All joking aside, that was frellin' brilliant, and better than many of the intervening episodes.

Damn Americans - you can't trust 'em. Any of them...

I couldn't believe my eyes. Having a cliffhanger like this made me long for the good ol' days. What happened to Tom?! What happened to John & Aeryn?! I HAVE TO KNOW!!!

Hey Antrobus - I guess we have had a "spoiled" discussion re this ep at Kansas. But what a finale - who knows who will be back? Who knows who did what and why? And how could Zoey and Danny turn against Tom? What about that clever Ms. CIA?? Whose side is she on? What about Harry?? Who was everyone really crying for??

Hope we get the next season soon !!!

That was a great episode. Glad to see that at least some of the smart TV writers have a home.

Who's on which side? Who do you trust? Don't leave the room or you'll miss something.

Man, that's good TV.

Man, I miss Farscape!

URK!

Watching that ep almost killed me!!!

I think the rogue/UNdead CIA agent's wife was in on his faked death. Their daughter is catatonic, a virtual vegetable. Mothers have a tendency to be rather protective of their offspring...logic dictates that she was in on it!

My 5 bucks says Tom knew what Harry would do and he planned an escape. I'd like to think he had a rebreather stashed, ready and waiting. He had time to plan SOMETHING before the misguided cavalry got there...the question is WHAT! ACK!!!

Next year cannot come quickly enough...I MUST know what happened! lol

I must say...MI-5 is quite a nice diversion while waiting for S5 to come out. *sigh* :)

i loved this ep as well... I was speculating like crazy as he was heading out on the beach- like:

- this was all a set-up, he didn't really shoot Harry dead (we never saw him other than a figure on a stretcher); they're setting him up to be a double agent (picked up by a submarine or boat or something.

- that he and his American lover arranged for him to work for the American side, and this was an agreed way (between MI5 and CIA or FBI) for him (and his girlfriend) to exit and retire from the service without compromising other work.

- they really are just ending the series here. that's it. end of story-and in a way, a satisfying ending for a show that deals in the paranoiac view of intelligence work.

anyway, it's great to have something interesting to watch that doesn't insult my intelligence.

It's likely only 5-10 minutes they've cut out - I have the Region 2 DVD of the first 6 episodes (Series 1) and they're all 50minutes long. The UK doesn't even have the Series 2 episodes out on DVD, but the Region 1, Series 1 DVDs are supposed to come out soon.

Maybe we'll luck out and they'll produce a set with all 16 episodes...

No worries on this score. I've heard they've actually started filming on the 3rd season.

From TV Guide - Dear Matt:

Question:
Following your recommendation, I started watching MI-5 when it premiered on A&E, and it's now a show I can't miss! (Even when it ping-ponged between 9 and 10 pm.) Was the Nov. 4 cliffhanger the end of first-run episodes? They didn't show clips for the next week, and the A&E website was very unhelpful. Is A&E planning on continuing the BBC production, and if so, when will it air? Plus, has your opinion changed on the show (for better or worse)? — Theresa

Matt:
Firstly, A&E has shown all there is for now of MI-5. My opinion hasn't changed. I've always thought it to be a tough, smart, thriller. But the future of the show here seems to be still something of a question mark. According to BBC's U.K. website, a new season of 10 episodes is in production, although according to some e-mails I've received there is some question as to whether Matthew McFadyen or Peter Firth will return. (Anyone who saw the cliffhanger knows that the fate of the character of Tom, played by MacFadyen, is very much up in the air.) What I don't know is if A&E is co-producing the episodes, as it did with the BBC for the last 10 episodes aired this year. The show wasn't a huge success here; I'm thinking that A&E's stubborn decision to keep the show on Tuesday, in the line of fire of all of last summer's cable smash hits, certainly didn't help. But it was more popular in its native U.K. (where it is called Spooks), and A&E could certainly do a lot worse than investing in a new batch of episodes. Let's hope we get to see the next season somewhere: if not on A&E, then on BBC America, although it has a considerably more limited reach.

I got quite a bit of e-mail following the ambiguous season finale. As Mauricio G. wrote: "The whole episode had me thinking about who Tom was or really is. And the final 10 minutes were better than anything on 24, because we have come to really know these characters." A correspondent named Lisa says, "My husband and I started watching MI-5 based on your recommendation and it became a must-see for us every week. We love how they throw in twists that aren't as common as on some U.S. shows (Alias excluded). As we watched the ending of last week's show with Tom walking into the water, we were both in shock. Is that really all we get?" Afraid so, for now. If a new season does get produced, it will probably take at least a year to show up here. Stay tuned.

Thanks Antrobus - guess we will have to wait a while for more MI5 - but we are Scapers - used to a long hiatus between episodes let alone seasons. :D
