As the first official social event of the Southeast Scapers, I can tell you our Kansas-themed Halloween Party was great fun although not as highly attended as we would have liked

We booked a room (at an unbelievably great rate because of connections) at the local Elks lodge. When I got there (late from carving my Aeryn pumpkin (see this thread for pics of my pumpkins http://www.savefarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=264273) Susan and her mother and friend had already set up most everything. The room was GREAT! Easily big enough for 50-75 people with an outside porch, a full bar, a little stage-like area, and a humungous TV :D

Susan had placed signs on the bar saying "Lomo Bar" and quoting the price of fellip nectar. And Susan's mom and her friend had laid out a great feast. They had taken care of the normal food and several of us brought "alien" dishes (see my congealed budong below -- it was yummy!)

I helped Susan finish getting ready and then she went to put the finishing touches on her costume. By the time she came back, she had been transformed into an adorable pilot and she took up her position behind the bar (shades of "Won't Get Fooled Again")

We were all set and just waiting for the onslaught of happy Scapers.

A couple of our regular group showed up right on time and we all stood around for a while. Slowly a few more found there way to the party, until eventually we had 9 people. Most were core members, but we had 1 who joined us at DragonCon, 1 who joined last month after I met her at the Farscape Meetup, and 1 completely new person who I believe found out about us at Collector Con a couple of weeks ago. So we are growing, if only by 1 person per month. :D

All together, there were 5 of us in costume.

Niki (our professional costumer) did a spectacular Peacekeeper uniform. (She's going to be holding costume workshops for us so we can all get into costume for DragonCon 2004!)

Susan as Pilot

Lisa as the Delvian who messes with John's mind in Rhapsody in Blue

Me as the giant DRD

and Amanda (who got there after we had taken our group pics) as a fabulous Katralla (check out her official statue pose).

The costume contest was judged by applause and since everyone got the same thunderous ovation we gave out 4 first places! (I didn't participate since the others had put actual effort into their costumes and I only threw on a poncho and ordered a 2-headed flashlight online.)

We also had a trivia contest which (very surprisingly) I managed to win (mostly because I was the loudest and most insistent with my "ooh, ooh, I know, I know" (picture Horshack on Welcome Back Kotter).

We had a pumpkin contest, but since I'm the only one who brought pumpkins, I kind of had an unfair advantage in that one. In any event, people ranked the pumpkins: 1. Scorpy (cause he's the scariest), 2. Aeryn, and 3. the Rygel mini-gourd.

We also ate (way too much because there was sooooo much food and so few people) and drank, and watched Premiere and DNA Mad Scientist on the enormous tv. We also listened to some great Farscape music put together by Tigger (who was unable to make it :( ).

Finally, we had a raffle. Between the 9 of us, we had 12 bucks in the kitty! :rollin: Niki won and graciously donated all the proceeds (it was a win half the pot raffle) to the cause.

We ended up in the red for the event, but we had a great time! :D

the chick in white is pretty cute, she's supposed to be the princess from the princess trilogy right?

That sounds fun! Sorry not a lot of people showed up...I would have been there if I lived closer to Atlanta.

Ah well, I'll bring my leftover congealed budong to the "We're Not in Burbank Cyber Party" next week. I'm sure it will still be fresh (well, fresh enough -- it is budong after all). :lol

Thanks for sharing! I love reading all the Farscape group stories. Personally, I'm amazed that you found NINE brave souls who all dressed up in costumes! (I, myself, am timid about those sorts of things.)

Can that recipe for congealed budong be found in either of the Foodscape cookbooks?? Does it use jello? If so, can the ChicagoScapers borrow it to add to their growing list of wonderful things Scapers can do with jello? (*grapeshot greedily eyes the piccie of the congealed budong* Yes, we've been toying with writing the definitive Book Of Jello. Jello has certainly added new depths - of depravity, that is - to our lives, and we wish to share our experiences with Farscape fans worldwide.)

Hey Grapeshot! No, it's not in either of the cookbooks (bad Atlantagirl!), but I'm happy to share it! Feel free to snurch the pic too if you want!

The funny thing is, when Crichton referred to budong innerds looking like his aunt's jello, I thought, whoa, that looks just like my Aunt Mary's jello (which has now become my own annual contribution to holiday meals).

It's black cherry jello (not very easy to find any more but worth the effort because it's better than regular cherry jello and has a more dramatic color - for the party I actually used 3 black cherry and 1 grape, but I don't think the grape added anything) with pitted dark cherries and crushed pineapple.

If you're just making a normal amount of jello (2 of the little boxes or 1 of the big ones), use 1 regular can of cherries and one of those little cans of crushed pineapple.

Substitute the juice from the canned fruit for as much of the water called for in the recipe as you can.

You can also substitute about a 1/4 cup of Coca-Cola (remember, this is Atlanta) or red wine for an equal amount of water for a little extra something.

To make this batch particularly Budong-y, I scooped the jello out of the original dish in which it congealed using a 1/4 cup scoop. It was very "authentic" looking and quite delicious! Of course, for non-alien get togethers, un-pre-scooped jello is probably to be preferred. :D

If you make some, let me know if you enjoy it. For me, it wouldn't be the holidays without it (and my broccoli casserole).

See what I mean about "depths of depravity"???? It only took Farscape and JELLO to warp us all!

Why do women always blame me for their behavior? I was just sitting there. Really!
