Interesting, as I just looked up the season 2 boxset on Suncoast, and it's backordered.
Hmm...
Awful lot of nobodies ordering that boxset, eh?

It is backordered on Amazon.ca also. In fact it was backordered, even for the pre-orders!!! (I am not bitter.... I got my set at Future Shop.)edited to add: Many of those who pre-ordered got their orders on time. Just those of us who left it a little late...

I talked to a buyer for Suncoast... and FarScape is a HUGE seller for them. But... there are more FireFly's on order than FarScapes.

Well, considering as how FF's audience was 3x larger than FS's, I would guess so. :)

Not surprising. Firefly was on a major network; Farscape... wasn't. Besides, one small price will get you all the Firefly episodes. To do the same with Farscape is a somewhat larger investment.

I was told that Suncoast had an order of FireFly's in the 10,000's... on pre-order. That is alot of DVD's. But, the buyer might have been pulling my leg... still, that is alot of pre-orders.

That's prolly why Firefly is getting a feature film, Grinner.
But I have no doubt that Farscape's DVD sales are nothing to sneeze at.
This past weekend I went shopping at my local Best Buy. I decided to check out their DVDs. What a surprise -- the had a FULL SHELF of Farscape! In the past they have either not had any Farscape episodes, or had a measly one or two first season episodes tucked away in an obscure corner. So now that makes TWO local stores that carry a major selection of Farscape: Media Play (part of SunCoast) and Best Buy. Next up: start working on the local Barnes & Nobles.

I'll second that on the Best Buy stock. I bought my Season 1 box set there a month ago and my 3.1 & 3.2 there last weekend and they had about 5 shelves FULL of Farscape. It was very impressive. And their stock was different from a month ago when I bought the first season than it is now so people must be purchasing it. This is very good for Farscape's future.
Unfortunately a friend ordered season 2's box set for me as a gift on Amazon.com. It was supposed to arrive on the release date but didn't arrive until about November 5th. What a nightmare wait!!!!!!!!! Now I wonder if they sent it late because of a backorder problem!
p.s. I had never heard of Firefly until getting on this forum. Sounds like this is strange.

I had a very similar experience at my local Best Buy. When I first got my DVD player last Xmas one of the first things I wanted to get was Farscape DVD's. When I went to the Best Buy there were very few on the shelf. But as the months passed things changed dramatically. I found myself going once a week to check out how they were doing. One week I'd see a full shelf, with several box sets and individual discs. The next week the shelf would be nearly empty. The following week it would be full again, and within a week would be nearly empty. Once while staring at the shelf and trying to will it to have 2.4 (which wasn't there for the third straight week!) a clerk came up and asked if he could help me. Yeah, I said. I need Farscape 2.4. It's never here. Sure it is, he said. For a couple of days anyway. Farscape is a big seller for us and we have trouble keeping it in stock. Well order more! I said. he just laughed and said they probably would if this continued. The last time I was there they had two or three times as many Farscape DVD's as they did when I first started looking for them. Box sets galore.
And yet no one's watching? Right!

If any of you have a Fry's Electronics close by, they also usually have a great selection of Farscape DVDs. I bought all of Season 3 there.

the other thing firefly has for it is joss whedons legion of fans. im sure there are tons out there that that would buy what ever he puts out. i saw firefly, it was decent. wished i could have seen the eps in order instead of a disjointed few that they showed. its hard to follow a show when they dont show you the right order when they first show the series.

I ordered the season 2 box set from Amazon.com and got it about a week later. it came in a REALLY big padded box!
Anybody know how soon a Season 3 box set will take to come out?

I have my copy of FireFly on order... and I buy all of Buffy and Angel when they are released... so... yeah... I think that Joss's fans would buy just about anything that he does.

I had preordered my 3.5 with CD Universe and it was backordered. So, I cancelled and ordered through Best Buy.
I asked on one the McGuire threads about Farscape DVD sales and ADV and I'll post here what response I got:

I'm not affiliated with ADV in any way, but was able to find out some information on ADV's Farscape sales. No surprise to us - it's one of their best sellers, and they continually have to have more DVDs created because the orders keep coming in. I don't have any idea how ADV thought they would sell at first, but my guess is that ADV is quite satisfied with Farscape.
So keep up the good work, folks, and keep on pushin'! :rollin:

I'm a huge Buffy Fan and enjoy Angel.
But I haven't run out to get the Firefly DVD's yet.
I only saw one and a half episodes and I wasn't impressed.
In favt I was bored.
It made me realize why Farscape is so good.
I also don't think Joss fans ran out to get Titan AE on DVD ;)
(although that movie is a guilty pleasure for me).
I will go see the Firefly movie though cuz I'm interested in seeing how Joss makes the transition.
