View Full Version : Rumor about some new eps

Er, I'm wondering why this hasn't been posted anywhere yet. I just hope it's true.
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news.htm
Farscape (TV): The cancelled but highly acclaimed Sci-Fi Channel series which had its plug pulled earlier this year may be making a comeback. Last week an insider sent along this rumour: "Farscape is back in production - the series is to be wrapped up in 4-6 new episodes with the usual crew, cast and producers. The props and sets are being dusted off and are being assembled in preparation for filming in Sydney. The new mini-season will complete the story arc and bring closure". An interesting story and a solid source but still it sounded almost like wishful thinking and as there still hasn't been any official announcement about it I held off. After all, you would've thought Sci-Fi would have shouted it from the rooftops that its coming back to appease the ravenous fans of the show (incl. me). Then some people I know connected with the show started mentioning it's coming back and its confirmed that the Sydney production office is open again. I placed three separate calls to them on Tuesday to confirm/deny the rumours and all three calls were not only summarily cut off at their end but the secretary hurled nasty insults (courtesy is a dying art) - I've never had problems with these guys before so best guess would be they've been advised not to speak to press at all (which would explain the lack of coverage locally). That would also explain that when I got in contact with a US publicity rep for Sci-Fi, they said they couldn't comment on it at this time but will be releasing details when they're available soon. Something IS stirring, I guess we'll have to wait to find out what exactly.

I don't know, but there was a recent short lived thread in which someone said they had heard second hand that an australian actress said she had just gotten a job for a Farscape episode. So maaaaybe its true. I sure hope so, but I want more than 4-5 episodes.
edited to add link to that other thread:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16793
I was looking over past threads and there have been other rumors about Farscape coming back as a mini-series, so I will be cautiously optimistic. Just don't want to get too excited so I don't have a big let down if nothing materializes.
http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16021
And this is the rumor that generated 23 pages of excited posts (myself included).

There's so much smoke in the air on the moment that somewhere beneath all the rumors and lies there's got to be fire. We've seen a huge flow of all kinds of little details indicating the return of Farscape. I'm starting to believe in some of them...
Well, by the next saturday we'll know the truth.

Imlego, I agree wholeheartedly with the smoke and fire analogy, but don't get your hopes up too high that there will be an announcement at the Con this weekend. While I pray that it happens, TPTB may not have all the t's crossed and the i's dotted. If that's the case, then they won't be able to make an announcement.
jued0001, welcome to FMD! :hi: This was posted earlier today over on the Campaign Strategizing forum.

I would very much LOVE for this to be true, that MORE Farscape will be made. I'll keep all my fingers crossed, and I'm putting NO time limit on it. If an announcement comes, it comes, and it will come in its own time and place.
But I'll add this for free, 4-6 episodes does NOT get Skiffy off the hook. They'll still OWE us 16-18 more episodes! And I mean to collect, from somebody.
Welcome, jued1000! Good catch. Thanks for the post.

I'll second that! Four to six episodes to tie it up is magnitudes better than the ending we currently have, but at least a season more is needed to take the story and arcs where it was originally intended. I would be quite happy with a mini-series though if it were long enough. Taken was probably 20 or more hours; it recently came out and took 6 DVDs for the complete mini-series. If Farscape were done as a mini-series and it was the same length as Taken, then it would be like getting a whole fifth season, but all in two weeks! Plus, once it did come out on DVD, it would be released at once, instead of over a period of months.

Yes, that's what I had read. They said it was time for the sets to be rebuilt anyway though, due to the usual wear and tear, so the breakdown of the sets wasn't actually thought to be as big a deal as it sounded like.

Um, I just read on Kansas that there has been an article posted in Cinescape (the link is on Kansas, but I forgot to copy it  ) that seems to be in conjunction with this rumor. In fact, one paragraph in the article says that there will be a press conference with the Jim Henson Company *tomorrow* and that Brian and DK will be there, and also Rockne.
I'm trying to remind myself that this is all just rumor and speculation, but I'm starting to feel a little light-headed....

"FAR OUT!: Hey, 'Scapers — this is the news you've been waiting for! The
Jim Henson Company is holding a press conference Thursday to
"announce an exciting new development in the campaign to continue
Farscape." Among those participating in the media pow-wow: Series creator
Rockne S. O'Bannon and exec producers Brian Henson and David Kemper.
They better not be unveiling the 2003 Farscape Christmas ornament."

Any new Farscape would be unbelievable and fantastic. I have to keep remembering, however, that no matter how much more Farscape we get, it will eventually have to end. How depressing.

Roxy641, I like your attached image. You wouldn't be a fan of a certain 1960's show about a kidnapped secrett agents island exploits, would you? I have every episode, and the alternate version of the Chimes of Big Ben, on VHS. I love that show. Why roxy641, why not just number six?

Now the SyFy Portal is running a story about the return of Farscape, though it sounds like they are using the Dark Horizons story (already linked earlier by others) as a source. SyFy Portal does mention that they heard the same rumor independently a month ago though, but decided not to publish.
The story is at:
http://www.syfyportal.com/article.php?id=1185
It may be the same as the Dark Horizons story, but it is nice to read it from yet another source.

That's not awful. If it had a run of, say, 11 seasons, it would get stale. The people who make the show are very smart, but that happens to any show that runs too long.
Which isn't to say that I don't want it to come back. I do, very much, and I think it will. These rumors are very interesting.

Red just posted in the Campaign Strategizing Forum that the press conference has been delayed indefinitely. Here is the link:

Now once you recover from your disappointment, I'd like to suggest, based on NOTHING whatsoever, that this means an all out bidding war has just broken out for the future of Farscape!
Just try to top that optimistic spin, I dare ya.

Hi Witchdoctor,
oh! I never thought of that. The number 6. The 641 was just a random number. When I was starting up on another forum I thought just in case someone already has Roxy - I'll add a number, and it stuck...
Yes, I am a fan of Prisoner. I've even been to where they filmed it. I would love to live there. The coast line is just about 10 minutes walk away from where they filmed the series.
Even being a prisoner wouldn't be so bad. But seriously, when you are taken there against your permission I surpose it's a very different matter...
You can't get away from them frelling numbers. You go to a job interview they ask "How old are you?" Someone asks for your telephone number...OK I won't go on... :-)

That was one of the things you never knew throughout the series. There was number two, who was in charge of The Village. They kept changing actors or actresses for the role of number two. Sort of management changes by who ever was running The Village. You also never found out who was in charge of The Village, though in some of the later episodes they intimated that it was a joint operation of both sides.

If I ever visit the UK, I want to visit the site where they filmed the Prisoner, Port Meiron I believe is the name of the village. I always thought it would be fun to get a suit like number six's, blue with the white trim, for Halloween. But then I don't think there would very many people at all who would get it. I got the series on VHS, but have thought about upgrading to the DVDs. You don't know offhand if there are a lot of extras on the DVDs, do you?

Yes, the place is called Portmeirion. They even have a shop there where you can buy Prisoner items ie. books, videos etc
And of course they have a cafe (or two!??)
http://www.portmeirion-village.com/
is the official village website. I think they are open most of the year, but check just in case when you are planning a journey there.

Nice link. I will have to check out the on-line store for Prisoner merchandice. Unfortunately, the web site is not responding now. Saved the link, so maybe another time.

WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON!
Why, our side, of course!
witchdoctor, I share you enthusiasm for "The Prisoner"... and the DVD set does have extras... an alternate version of Chimes of Big Ben, scene locations, and a video guide to the prisoner.
There were also promotional posters for "The Prisoner" when the box set was first released... I nabbed a copy on eBay. By hook or by crook, I WILL get it framed!
There are also two book guides out... I prefer the one published by Virgin, authored by Alain Carraze and Helene Oswald.

Roxy641,
The link to the Portmeiron site worked fine and the link withing that to the Prisoner pages worked fine too, but when I tried to go to the on-line shop for Prisoner merchandise (http://www.estore.ignite.com/home/portmeirion), the page would not load. I kept getting the website not responding message, even after reloading several times. Just happened again, so maybe there is a problem with the server. I'll try another day.
Buddha,
I do have one of the Prisoner guides, The one by Mathew White and Jaffer Ali. It seems okay, but I haven't seen the other one. If you think it is better, I'll have to check it out. I do have the alternate version of the Chimes of Big Ben, but it took a separate VHS tape. I'm trying to justify buying the set on DVD, but it is kind of hard when I already have all the eps on VHS. In addition, there are so many other shows I want to get. I've heard so much about Firefly and though I've never even seen one episode, I am tempted to pick it up when it comes out in December. Then there is Babylon 5, which has quite a following and would probably be worthwhile.
