This question is brought to you by Emmetts Irish Cream (i.e. fake Baileys), and inspired by this evening's purchase of same.*
What's your favorite drink?
I prefer red wines (syrah, cabernet, merlot).
I also like beers - especially amber ales and lagers. I tend to like beer that is not overly hopped. Wheat beer is good, too.
I don't drink too many mixed drinks anymore, but when I do, I like mai tais. Also like hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps, and mudslides (Baileys, vodka, kahlua with ice cream or just crushed ice and a touch of chocolate syrup). And Baileys on the rocks is always a dessert-like treat.
And thanks to my fiance, I am developing a taste for single malt scotch.
In the non-alcoholic department, nothing beats a tall glass of fresh brewed sweet iced tea, with lemon.
*OK, I might have had one or two by now...... and this, after a long break of not drinking at all. So -- wheeeeee. :freak2:

Non-alcoholic.....cold, filtered water.

When I did drink, I prefered the Canadian lagers or the German Exports.
I wasn't fond of the Pilsner, Weisen, Lite Beers (holy crap, who ever heard of a drunk watching his figure)
The best beer I ever tasted is called Pirminator, locally brewed beer in the town of Pirmasens. Good stuff.
I didn't like wine.
I hate southern comfort.
I liked gin, straight or with ice. Long Island Ice Teas were pretty good, but I usually got really angry after about 6 of them.
Non Alcoholic drinks, Birch Beer, Ginger Ale, Root Beer, Ginger Beer, and plain water. (notice a theme?)

Six of them?!? You could drink six? Holy crap. Back in the day when I drank those, I was falling down sloppy drunk after less than two! Whew. Six would've put me in a coma.

I like white or red wine, depends on what I'm eating. I also like frozen Margaritas and Strawberry Daiquiri.
Non-alcoholic.. I mostly drink water, but I do have coffee in the morning and one cup in the afternoon.

Bailey's (Emmet's is fine too). Straight from the bottle or with hot chocolate. REALLY good with Hershey's French Vanilla hot chocolate.
Tequila...Jose Cuervo is the standard, of course. Shots, or Margaritas. And if they're margaritas, they have to have the salt. It's just not the same otherwise.
Beer...Tecate and Negro Modelo (sp?)
Mike's Hard Lemonade is good too.
Boyfriend's getting me into Jameson's whiskey.

Top choice: Guinness
Sam Adams Dark makes for a decent substitute when in a bind.
Hot cocoa with peppermint schnapps is good in the winter.
Coffee is good any time of the day.

Jose has to be the most vile dren in this universe. :hork: Well, for Tequila that is.
El Mescalito is my preferred libation, or Crown, or Turkey (on occasion), hmmmm, and then there's Myer's, a little Bailey's and coffee (while gaming), Velvet when I'm slumming...

Most of the time, I drink water (and lots of it). But when I do drink something else I like:
Any kind of schnapps and drinks made with schnapps
Amaretto Sours
Any kind of drinks made with Baileys, Kahlua, Midori
Margaritas, Daiquries (sp?), Pina Coladas, and most other fou-fou girly drinks
I don't like wine, although occationally I can drink a glass of white wine. I loathe beer. I really can't get past the smell.
Non alcolholic drinks: Dr. Pepper, fruit juice
Ok, I realize my beverage choices are a little wimpy. Except for Dr. Pepper. Dr. Pepper rules.

Wine (usually red) ... cabernet, merlot, pinot noir..., with the occasional chianti, gamay, semillion, and reisling.
Bocci Ball (Amaretto, Orange juice and a spritz of club soda - on the rocks).
A well made Pina Colada.
Water (filtered and cold).

Johnsgirl727, you cant get passed the smell...for me its the aftertaste...of ANYTHING alcoholic. Although beer does smell nasty. :yuck:
A friend got me to try Mudslides swearing there was no alcohol aftertaste...I guess its like a smoker not being able to smell the smoke on them...cause I tasted the alcohol. :dunno:
I prefer ice-cold filtered water and also Pepsi. :aok:

I like the exotic stuff
Bailey's - will drink Carolan's if Bailey's is unavailable but do not like :yuck: Emmets.
Fuzzy Navel
Strawberry Daquari
White Russian
Southern Comfort
Morgan's spiced rum - makes great daquari's
Champagne - if it's not too dry
Aussie white wines are a favorite especially Seppelts or Lindemans Chardonay
And of course :aok: Margaritas (with my pizza) :lol
I'm very selective about beer ... it has to have a reasonable taste not just soapy fizz.
My favorites are Swan Lager or Redback :beergood: - no not redbull - Redback brewed in Melbourne, Victoria.

Well, I can't have beer any more... it has gluten in it. But when I could have it, McKewan's Scotch Ale, Tenet's Scotch Ale, Guinness, Harp, Bass, Tecate, DAB, Moosehead, Foster's Green, and Asahi.
Now I'm limited to Hard Cider. I like the Granny Smith Vermont Cider best.
I prefer dry white wines, Sauv Blanc preferred.
In the hard stuff, I CAN STILL HAVE WHEAT! Distillation takes the gluten out... Single Malt Scotch rules (Macallan, Glenlivit, Laphroig, and the Dalmore would be my favorites), served neat, in a snifter. Gin & tonics are good too ('specially Bombay Blue Sapphire, but in a pinch Tanqueray will do).
BTW - I'm an affectionate drunk (that's affectionate as in lovey dovey, not as in hornly). Except Slivovitz (Serbian Plum Brandy)... good stuff, but I get wicked mean. I think the whole Yugoslavian breakup can be blamed on Slivovitz.
Non-alcoholic I have to endorse Third Eye's choices.. Birch Beer (white OR red), Ginger Ale, and Root Beer.

Hmmm... most mass market American beers (and mass market ANY market beers... ever had cheap Mexican beer? Blech) seems more to me like weasel piss than horse piss. That's just coming from somebody who is familiar with both smells.
I DO have a term for stuff worse than that. Oh, you know, like the sub-grade Mickey's Big Mouth stuff (Mickey's Big Mouth came in a little barrel like those old disgusting juicey juice things), which they called appropriately Mickey's Mean Green. But it is probably more than most people here could handle.

I started drinking at an early age. I can't remember now, but I think it was the time when I was still in nappies and struggling to walk on two legs. Anyway, my mum used to slip a drop of whiskey in me milk bottle, mainly to shut me up. And I'm sure she used to say afterwards, thank God for that!
I suppose my drinking habits really started to pickup when I got in with the wrong crowd, and instead of going to the boxing gym we all decided with one voice to go straight down to the pub instead when we should have been working out.
The best time to drink is all year round.
Winter: Draught Guinness + Any dark rum, but Ship is the best. Incidentally, the canned stuff is excellent. Thanks to that widget thing they put in it. It almost tastes as good as the real thing. For drinkers of white rum, you can't do much better than a bottle Wray and Nephews Jamacan white rum.
Summer : Gaymers Olde English cyder (out of the bottle) + Sothern Comfort.
I too am particularly partial to a bottle of Baileys. Mmmmm... very nice. :D
Just in case there are any wino aficionados out there, especially our Australian cousins, how about this link to salivate the old mouth taste buds:

But as you are a lowly college student, I will forgive your tastes. For as a college student, you really haven't learned lifes biggest lesson, sometimes that extra $20 makes all the difference. If one's goal is just to get drunk, then MD 20/20 will do the trick, but if you just want to sit down and have a good tasting cocktail in the evening, then go for the good stuff, you'll never be disappointed (the single malts Buddah mentioned above qualify here). As I mentioned earlier, El Mezcalito is some of the best I've ever tasted, though I've never had 100% pure blue agave. I can't tell you what it cost, for it was a gift from a cousin who went to the distillery in Guadalajara.
There is one drawback to getting the good stuff, once you've tried it, you can't go back to rotgut.
Well, now I'm a bit thirsty, If y'all excuse me for a minute, I hear a shot of Mezcalito calling my name, and you know it would be rude of me not to answer...

You know, I always called Tequila "Ta-Kill-Ya", but some of those that are aged are actually quite good.

In my younger days when I used to drink and party BIG time I would go through phases of what my favorites were.
Let's see, there was the Martini phase (gin or vodka), then there was the Scotch phase (was partial to Rusty Nails too).
And I had a Tequila phase too. At one time I could drink shots of it without a chaser.
Ah well, I don't really drink anymore. Not because I can't or shouldn't or anything. I just don't. I'll occassionally have a beer. I like Sam Adams - something dark.
...and of course I'm quite taken with champagne on special occasions! But then there's always the champagne headache after!
My downfall now is coffee!

All good tequila is to be consumed sans chaser, I once didn't think so, but then I tried the good stuff. In fact that's a great test, if you need something to wash down your cocktail, then perhaps you need to change your brand of cocktail.

For wines, it is almost always a red, either a merlot or a cabernet. once in awhile I like a semi-dry white. My favorite is a Johanesberg Riesling. Can't stand chardonays though. Don't know why, just never liked them.
For mixed drinks, it is pretty much gin and tonics, with Bombay. We used to drink Tanquray in college and I thought that was pretty good, until I tried Bombay for the first time. There is just no comparison.
Very rarely I like a very old port, but can usually have only one because they tend to be concentrated hangover.
I like dark beers, as a rule. You should have trouble seeing through the glass. Guiness is fine, but I like McKewan's Scotch Ale better and Oatmeal stouts are probably my favorite. There is a scottish one whose name I am blanking out, a local midwest one, Schlafley Oatmeal Stout and even more local one brewed in my town at a local brew pub. You wouldn't think so, but the local brew pub also does a pumpkin ale that is really good when it is in season. I don't know if I should admit it, but I do occasionally like a lighter lager, and then just a plain old Michelob is fine.
For non-alcoholic beverages, ice water is my most common drink (and here I take an anti-elitist stance and drink tap water), coffee (black, no sugar) is a close second. And none of those flavored coffees either; I like my coffee to taste like coffee.

While my drink of choice is Crown & Mt. Dew, there are a few others that will do in a pinch.
Creme de menthe, margaritas (preferably strawberry or raspberry), wine coolers, fuzzy navels, kamikazes, tequila sunrise, screwdriver, strawberry daquiris (made with ice cream mix), peach schnapps. I also love cherry cheesecake, which is cranberry juice and Dr. McGillicuddy's Vanilla Schnapps. Actually, vanilla schnapps can be mixed with nearly anything and tastes good.
I don't drink wine. It makes me sick within five minutes. It's the only thing that aggravates my ulcer. Beer, on the other hand, is always good. Better in large quantities. :P
As for nonalcoholic drinks, Mt. Dew is at the top of my list. Chai tea is right up there, too. Irish cream steamers will get me through if there's nothing else better around. And raspberry lemonade makes all the troubles go away...

Scientific proof! Guinness bubbles sink!
OK, you may be hallucinating, but not about the downward motion of the bubbles in a Guinness.
- People celebrating St. Patrick’s Day Wednesday can cross one topic of conversation off their lists.
Guinness bubbles really do sink.
Scientists said Monday they had finally proved that the dark stout’s creamy bubbles defy expectations and flow down instead of upwards.
“Our group carried out preliminary experiments at a local pub a few years ago, but the results proved inconclusive,” said Dr. Andrew Alexander, from the University of Edinburgh’s School of Chemistry.
They first thought the dark liquid flowing down as a pint was poured gave the illusion the bubbles were going down as well.
Now close examination has revealed that, as a pint settles, bubbles touching the walls of the glass experience drag, similar to that a person feels sliding a finger along glass, and that prevents them floating up.
The bubbles in the middle however, are free to rise, creating a circular flow within the glass that causes bubbles at the edge to be pushed downwards on the inside surface of the glass.
The Edinburgh team, working with researchers at Stanford University in California have produced high-speed video footage of the sinking bubbles — to put at rest the minds of any drinkers who might have felt they were seeing things.
