I know this is a totally weird question, but on my monitor at work, parts of it are green (I'm at home now, and don't remember which part!) Here at home everything is a rusty shade of brown or black? So I would really like to know which of these monitors is getting in the ballpark of the intended colorscheme. Any help or opinions would be appreciated. ;)

browns and blacks with text in a rusty orange shade, and white. we tried to go with a Moya Golden Brown scheme.

Oh good. Straight from the source instead of what colors other people see. Thanks much WG. That means it's the work monitor I need to straighten out the color on.

I see it as a multi-colored swirl of reds, blues, greens, yellows. All the colors move around and interact with each other. They fold and morph into shapes and objects, twisting in and out then back into colors. The words move around and talk to me, they make faces and funny picures. Isn't that what you see.

Only when I've had a few too many Chardonays or margaritas.

I do not like the colors on this board... as some colors are incredibly had to see when they are used.

I think that happens grinner because some people do not preview their posts and even when they do they don't really care if no-one can read it. Colors like purple, blue and red can be very difficult to read at this forum because the brown background is already dark. If people were more conscious of this they would post in the paler colors that show up well against the dark background.

Colors?

I still can't figure out why the background is olive green here at work instead of the golden brown it is at home. I haven't figured out what to adjust to fix it, either.

I see the colors of Love, happiness, Joy with a dash of sadistic. A pinch of Sarcasm with a bold fruity touch and profound beauty of a sunshiny day over a field of red poppies and bold yellow butter cups in a sea of deep green flowing like waves of an ocean as the wind blows through the field of poetic mad hatter posters:kitty:

Different computers can rendor colors differently. Here is a link that contains a few articles that address this problem, if you want the geek explanation for why it happens: http://www.colormatters.com/computers.html
The rest of the site is kind of interesting, too.

Could it be that you monitor is going bad? When my 20 inch monitor took a hit from a surge... I lost most of the blues which left some colors really weird looking.

LOL! Actually I had that wrong. It's the chocolate brown that's an olive green. At least chocalate brown is what I'm calling the color that's going to be under these letters when it's posted. So hopefully that's the intended color.

Fortunately I don't do that much Scaping from work, so I'm not really exposed to it very often. BUT..... that computer is for handling the gazillions of photographs I take through a microscope for work. And they are in color and the color matters. So it's really not a very good thing for it be frelled on the color rendition. And Grinner, it's a considerably newer monitor than this one at home is, so I dunno.

It may be that it's just plain not got all the code in it that it's supposed to have. The arrows for go to the first unread post next to a thread after searching are red flowers instead of arrows. And several things within posts show up as garbage characters. I don't remember the specifics on that one. Things like apostrophes, I think is one.

Well unless you can give me a clue what to do with those html values, I'm not sure there would be much point. But feel free if it includes what to do with them.

For me, the background is that chocolate brown on my iMac/OS9.2 at work, but it shows up black on my HP/WinXP at home... go figure.

waltersgirl

that actually sounds like it's your browser at work being unable to translate the code properly.

waltersgirl

and yes, "chocolate brown" is a good description of the main background color. the absolute background is black. the thin lines of the frames around the chocolate brown are the same orangish color as the "post reply", "all times are GMT blah blah blah" text...and the frames are the rusted orangish color.

If "chocolate brown" is correct, then it's my home computer that's wiggin' out. Which kinda makes sense because I just went to that link (above) re: true monitor colors, and my gamma's all outta wack (not surprised, though... it's a used monitor that I bought on the quick when my ViewSonic died some months ago... this current monitor's yellows flake out on occasion, but even when it's "working" the images aren't that great).

Just had to sink $329 into my car... not gonna be buying a new monitor for quite sometime yet (unless it pushes up daisies soon, like my last monitor). Grrrrrr :pissed:

Which is weird since they're both Windows Explorer. The one at work is Windows 98 and the one at home is Windows 2000. But I seem to think all the computers at work are giving me these colors, which would include a Mac and Windows 2000 machine too. Maybe I'll think to check it tomorrow. Is it possible for some master machine to be frelling with the colors before they get to me at work that doesn't affect me from home over the dial-up?

the server for your work computers maybe? are they networked? if so, it could be the network's software.

Well, I'm at work and I went back to that color test link (above). YIKES! It's like night and day, the difference. My home computer's monitor is a total piece of dren! :D Thanks for the info/help!

LadyCrais

Somehow I've missed the color test link. It's not the same place where all the info about computer color is, is it? Cuz then I have to find a link in there, and I didn't see it.

Anyhoo, the Mac at work is chocolate. So I guess that rules out the server hypothesis. Got to check the 2000 machine now.

Apparently that's dangerous, due to the presence of the sarcasm impaired.

I like my colors. Dark, pretty easy to read. Some boards are impossible.
Black, brown, rust, white text.
