'Far'-reaching deal
U Studios Networks, EM.TV tap series for Sci Fi web

By ED MEZA

BERLIN -- Universal Studios Networks has inked a deal with German license trader EM.TV for all four seasons of "Farscape" for its new German Sci Fi channel.
The acquisition, which marks the first programming agreement between USN and EM.TV, includes the German premiere of the fourth season of "Farscape," which has in the past aired on free TV web Sat.1.

Sci Fi will start broadcasting the series, a coproduction from Jim Henson Co., Hallmark Entertainment, Nine Films and Television and the U.S. Sci-Fi Channel, in January from Monday to Thursday in primetime.

EM.TV joins Herbert Kloiber's film and TV outfit TeleMunchen Group as well as the insolvent Kirch Media, which is selling off its once-vast programming stockpile, as programming suppliers for Sci Fi, which launched in Germany in September.

Hold up! This EM.TV business doesn't make sense - didn't the rights to Farscape revert to the Hensons, once Brian and his family bought EM.TV out?

It subsequently seems suspect that the two companies are still doing business, after the 'poker' that lead to FS's cancellation.

But I guess $$ is $$...

Yeah that does seem odd. Maybe its part of the deal guys. Maybe this is a pointer to Farscape getting a very much enhanced Advertising scheme.............. for a new series:woohoo: I mean you want to build the audience so you sell all the previous eps to get new fans to speed and hit em with the newstuff next summer? Also nice segway for a season run into a Movie, hey it worked for X Files....................

It could be the price of FREEDOM, giving EM-TV the rights to market Farscape in Germany.

This deal cannot be between Universal Studios and EM.TV for broadcast rights of Farscape. David Kemper has said before in an interview on Interstellar Transmissions that The Henson Company is the one and only entity that controls international broadcast rights for Farscape. I am guessing that Variety did not do well in their reporting.

Gosh, where were all you bright people when I was bitching about the same thing in the original thread below:

Hope that works. I really do need to remember how to do that cool trick where you substitute one word for these looooooonnnnnnnngggggggg urls. ;)
