Like any of us didnt know this already.... :D

The article is called "Where Have All the Young Men Gone"...network execs wonder how their falls shows became must-flee TV"

Here is a bit of the article...found in the EW mag with Britney Spears on the cover:

"When Zucker (NBC Pres) and other execs see their returning shows bleeding younger viewers, they start pointing fingers. WB CEO Levin claims the problem is Nielsen, a monopoly ratings service with whom the networks have endured a shaky relationship with for decades. (In the late 90's the networks spent millions researching the viability of a rival service). To prove its sample, Nielsen made a number of changes this year, including boosting the number of Hispanic households it measures. According to the company's data, young Hispanic men are watching significantly less TV than the overall average, which NBC thinks is partly responsible for the demo decline. In addition, the networks insist the firm does not accurately count TV-hungry young folks because they live in homes with TiVo, digital cable and satellite - systems that are not very compatible with Nielsen's equipment.

Nielsen stands by its numbers adding "its a top priority to explain the loss". Some theories are that young men are leaving the networks for the Internet, DVD and videogames.......

Curiously in the weeks since the networks began carping, numbers have perked up a bit. "Nielsen says it just happens by happenstance" says Levin. "Is it magic? I dont know."......

The last thing Nielsen wants is to stir the giants of the media business to create a different measuring system, which builds momentum every time something like this occurs."

Oh, yeah, they're fiddling with their numbers.

Their system isn't validated, so what's to stop them?

They need to be audited on a regular basis... their customers should insist on it.
