Man Posing As Marshal Calls for Backup
Updated: Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 - 10:15 AM

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A motorist upset that he had been cut off pulled over the other driver, falsely claimed to be a U.S. marshal and called for a local police backup, authorities say.

Donald Sebastian, 54, of Middleburg Heights, is charged with impersonating a federal agent in this Cleveland suburb. He was released on a personal bond after a court appearance.

Sebastian's wish to become a U.S. marshal was blocked by a criminal record with 29 arrests since 1975, including state and federal gun convictions, the marshal's service said Monday.

"Who would call for backup?" U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said. "That's what is so strange."

A search of his home showed marshal service business cards, shirts, jackets, leather gloves and other marshal gear. He told authorities his ruse was his "way of giving back to the community."

Sebastian, who does not have a phone listing in Middleburg Heights, could not be reached for comment.

What an idiot. These are people that are roaming freely!! I just don't get it.

Hey, some of those who DO make it into law enforcement are just as scary... I'm basing that on the opinions of family members... one state police senior officer, two senior FBI types, and two junior FBI types, serving at various times.

Scary when a senior police type tells you that you have reason to be afraid if you are pulled over.

The problem is that the people that cut you off in traffic and/or drive like a bat out of hell weaving in and out of cars with inches to spare while going 20-30 mph faster than the rest of the traffic going the speed limit are idiots too. And far more dangerous idiots at that. And there isn't a frelling thing we safe, sane drivers can do to put a stop to it. I was really hoping this article was going to go the other way and put the asshole driver in trouble instead. No doubt s/he got off scott free without so much as a warning.

There is a number you can call here in Colorado to report reckless or aggressive drivers. The hitch it that they have to recieve 3 calls before they even send a letter out.

If I'm going 65 legally, and someone blows by me at 90, it's not likely I'm gonna get the plate number, nor are most people.

It's better than nothing, but there needs to be something better.

Remember a few years back when people were shooting at each other on the LA freeways? I understood what they were doing. Still wrong, but I understood why.

Who would pose as Marshal, really? As President of the United States, I order this man be imprisoned for life!
