View Full Version : Question about possible mini-series . . .

Correct me if I'm wrong but back in the day when Farscape was first canceled, didn't our protest bring Sci-Fi and Henson back to the discussion table? Didn't Skiffy offer them 11 episodes to finish the story but Henson turned it down because they wouldn't go for anything less than a full season?
So why now have a potential 4 hour mini if they already turned down an 11 ep 5th season?

I imagine that they must have the money(now) for a four hour mini, but couldn't produce an 11 ep 5th season for the amount Scifi wanted them to do it for.
I'm not privy to what went on in those meetings, but the impression I got was that they could not reach an agreement that satisfied both parties.

Because back then the Hensons had no authority to make a deal as the company was owned by EMTV, but now that they have bought it back it is a completely different situation.
Besides, we don't know how much SciFi was offering for that shortened season or any detail about how the negotiations went.
By the way, nice nickname, isn't it nice that the 'New frontier' series is back after leaving us for two years with a cliffhanger?

There are probably a lot of reasons, most of which we'll never know. Maybe, as many of us believe, a mini will lead to another season or other minis, and right now it's the best way for Henson to get Farscape back on the air. The important thing is that Farscape WILL be back, and we have to keep the fight going. As many have pointed out, this is an important first step. We have to work our eemas off to help ensure that it's *only the first* step! :D

I've heard it takes 10 days of filming for each hour of Farscape.
The studio is booked for 30 months. That's about 9 hours of
Farscape. Hmmmmm.

Yes, but they also have to rebuild all the sets in those three months, and may spend more time of shooting per hour since it's not an episode, but a bigger, longer, mini...
Dang it, if Henson doesn't speak up soon I'll go Stark raving mad. :pace:

From what I've heard, Henson's got squeezed between SciFi and EM.TV, and the deal for a partial season fell through because those two couldn't reach financial agreement.
The Henson company and the creators of the show certainly never turned down the idea of doing a partial season per se.

First of all, this comparison can't be made with any measure of success because we are not sure what we are comparing. We have no idea the who, what, where or when of a new production until the Henson Company makes it official, and until they do, you can assume that some of those details are not final yet.
There is only one point on which to compare, and that is that whatever comes up is post whatever is post set-breakdown. Anything after the sets came down, that two-week period after Black Friday, put whatever came of Farscape under a different bracket of circumstances, because sets had to be rebuilt, and the price tag of the production as a result went up a lot. Any production allegedly in the works right now will be working from a totally different place in the works than it was in the days following the cancellation. Basically, any alleged new Farscape production is starting from the ground up, like a new production. Yeah, the faces, the story, the whole package could/would/will be what we know and love, but from the production side, there is a lot that could/would/will be starting over from scratch.
Which, when you come to think of it, is a tremendous success. Any time you can start over from scratch despite deperate odds...wow. Go Farscape, go!
