Congratulations Scapers - You did it!
Farscape returns as a 4 hour mini-series

Savefarscape.com is now free to confirm that the rumors swirling have their basis in fact. Farscape, cancelled last year by the SCI FI Channel, will return as a 4 hour mini-series. Sources report that filming will begin in December and the series is expected to air next year. Ben Browder and Claudia Black will reprise their roles as Commander John Crichton and Officer Aeryn Sun.

The fans reacted immediately to news of the cancellation and began one of the most impressive fan campaigns in television history. Through a strength of spirit and ideals of community and family, the fans of Farscape have created something fabulous and achieved something that should have been impossible.

Take a bow Scapers, you did it. You saved Farscape and don't let anybody tell you differently. This is all yours. You kept the hope alive, you kept Farscape alive, until the people behind Farscape could get back to work on telling us the rest of the tale again.

Your job isn't done yet, though. Take a while to enjoy this victory and then let's get back at it. Let's get more eyes for Farscape. Let's get more viewers. Let's put Farscape in the hands of every person we can reach and then, when the series airs it will be such an event that not even the most optimistic of us could have anticipated the response.

This is only the beginning. Farscape will continue because of you and the future of the franchise is in your hands.

Thank you all. For your time, your ideas, your letters, your hope, your joy, your dogged determination, and your unwavering support.

Congratulations. Back to work.

I feel like this is still a cliffhanger.

So, it's returning that's cool. But, where's the rest of the information?

How's it being distributed (e.g. who is airing it?)

What's the basic premise? To finish the story? To tell a standalone?

This doesn't appear to have any information that the other rumors had.

When is the rest of the information going to be released and how?

I didn't say I didn't believe you.

I believe you. I've believed this since TV Guide started reporting it.

But, like I said, this is like one of the show's cliffhangers. It's like knowing that John isn't really going to die in that stranded module, but not knowing how.

I guess from what you said that there's no other news coming out soon.

Nope. Some stuff I still can't say because it's not solid and it could change, as you know. I've given you what I can.

*coughfarscapethepeacekeeperwarscough*

Anyway, things could change at any time but that's where we are right now. Farscape is returning and it's in very large part due to the determination of the fans to see it through.

To satisfy me? You've got to be kidding. I'm extremely happy to have Farscape back in any form.

I'm not one of those people who are complaining it's not a full season. (and there are and will be many of those)

If Farscape came back as 3-minute cartoons on the Cartoon network, you wouldn't hear me complaining about it. But, I bet you'd hear others complain.

I just asked a few questions that everyone else is asking or will ask. And you bite my head off about it.

The great thing about pessimism is that life will occasionally treat you with a surprise and you feel damned happy about it. It's the people who have been hopeful for that full season that will be the most unhappy ones.

I'm damned happy to see Farscape in any form. You sure read me wrong.

Why don't you put this on the front page: "For those of you asking the obvious questions of where this will air and what it will be about, GIVE IT A REST! We've got more important things to worry about than your silly questions."

Excuse me. They are not silly questions but I have given the answers I had and the answers I could give. I'm sorry if they're not the answers you may have been looking for.

To recap - right now there is no word on distribution or network vs syndication. It should be episodes 4.23-4.26. Filming starts in December. It should air next year. All things subject to change.

This is awesome. Too good to be true, but I know it is anyway.
But Red, I just have to know how you know this isn't another of the rumors that we have been hearing in the past week. I don't doubt the rumors, or you, but I just need to hear that this is more than rumor, since it isn't the official announcement from Henson either.

BTW there would have been quite a few more smilies, but I guess they were used up last week.

I'll still be holding my breath till Henson makes it all official-- I'd certainly hope that Anthony Simcoe, Gigi Edgley, Wayne Pygram and the rest of the regular cast will return as well-- but it's good to know that there's truth behind the rumors. (=

Here's hoping that everything does indeed come together as planned-- and that it's only the beginning of more Farscape to come.

I'm hoping this is only the beginning. But, we all know that the big thing right now is to get the word out! Phase two (or whatever) starts tonight.

Last night on the way home from Burbank, I convinced the guy next to me to go to Blockbusters and rent Farscape. He loves Sci Fi but doesn't have time for TV. Sounds more like "We're getting an ending" than "We're getting our show back." But it's probably the best outcome that could be expected. I am eager to hear more details as they emerge.

Don't rain on the parade! We have done what just about everyone outside of this community thought impossible- we got a show back over a year after it was cancelled! As for the 4 hours being an end, consider the following from the rumor mill....

Monetarily it is a major expense if they rebuild everything only for 4 hours of show.

They rented out the studios for 3 months? Does it take that long to film 4 hours?

Red has that nasty cold/hairball that coughed something up about another project.

Trust the creators of the show. I do. They are just as committed to the show as we are.

Whatever it is, it's more than we had yesterday, and if we keep fighting the good fight it will continue to grow.

Wait til the media gets a hold of this.....:news:

Is there actually anyone here who believes that DK & Co. couldn't successfully weave a plot following any wrap-up of some current story lines? If so, which version of Farscape were you watching??

The mini-series serves a business purpose for Henson or it wouldn't be done. It makes the existing 88 episodes more attractive for a syndication deal in the first place, and syndication = more potential eyes getting hooked on Farscape.

It also gives the Farscape team (and us) a second chance at improving ratings and proving to TPTB in the industry that this franchise really does have legs and is worth backing for future projects.

A mini-series is no guarantee of future episodes, but the term "wrap-up" certainly doesn't preclude future episodes either. Everyone has said from the beginning that a series that has only 88 episodes and ends in a huge cliffhanger has big strikes against it in syndication. And syndication is a good thing for us. It introduces Farscape to people who've never seen it (or couldn't find it a second time on SciFi if they did catch it once).

In the end, what happens next will all depend on what happens once the mini-series airs. Does it just sit there and go thud or does it hit a homerun (like frelling "Taken"), get tons of press, and serve as a springboard for a new season or a feature film or whatever fiendish kind of project the evil geniuses have in mind.

We need to stop whining about what we have not yet gotten and be happy and grateful for what we have achieved.

As another Atlanta girl once said, "After all, tomorrow is another day..."

Somehow, I never expected anything other than for Farscape to return, and I'm very very happy! My faith in the Farscape team and the Farscape fandom has been realized.

I'd like to express my appreciation for each and EVERYONE here at FMD, and the DetroitScapers, my fellow ChicagoScapers, the TwinCitiesScapers, and the PrairieScapers. You've never failed to cheer each other on, and the great ideas, the hard work, and the pennies that were spent have all paid off.

Tomorrow we'll have to start planning for the next phase, but for now I'm celebrating!!!

And to you nay-sayers and pishers of the world, I say "Feh!"

Red,

Thank you, but where is the offical press conference announcing this? I also checked henson's FARSCAPE website and this information is not there. WHY? Why is your word any more reliable than the stuff we have heard from other sources such as TV guide (which was a rumor).

Sorry to doubt you because you have been a repected spear head of this operation, but I still have some reservations.

It's not a question of not believing you, Red. It's just that we've been waiting and waiting for HENSON to announce something. It feel unnatural to believe anyone but Henson when that's been what we've been telling ourselves for so long. LOL

Plus, I think we're all very anxious to hear more details. Unfortunately, the news of a 4-part mini-series is almost old news, even if it hasn't been official. It's good to get that much confirmed, though.

But still, I am very, very happy that you can finally say something. I'm assuming that you have Henson's blessing or you wouldn't do so, which is fantastic. Hopefully, they'll reschedule their press conference soon.

Oh, I know CrystalMoon, believe me, I've asked myself that. "Why is this any different from any other rumor?" And it's really not, except that I can finally say for certain that it's more than rumor - but each individual will have to decide if they want to believe that I'm any more reliable than any other source. Until there's official announcement, that's a decision each person will have to make. And I totally understand that. I really, honestly do.

I remember how depressed I was after the last episode aired in March 2003. The world was in a such a state of turmoil at that moment.

That was the one time I really felt that Farscape might not return.

Now I feel how great it is to know that hope never dies. Farscape may be one small part of our crazy world, but it brings such joy to those it touches wherever they might be.

I am truly thrilled at Farscape's return and thank all the amazing individuals who have contributed to its resurrection. Now let us share its message with everyone we can.

Red, I know there's not a whole lot that's tied down yet with the details, but knowing that it's 4 hours, do you have any idea if that's 4 hours of honest to God story time or 4 hours minus the usual 10-20 minutes an hour of commercials time? Just that information would be very enlightening.

Damn, I'm glad I checked one more time before hittin' the hay!

This makes all the handwritten letters, donations, bras, and fried chicken worth it! :D

Thanks to all the motivated and imaginative people who organized and kept this campaign going.

I do have a question about something that maybe isn't known yet. Do you know when this miniseries might possibly air? How much time do I have to tie up my friends and force them to watch all the DVDs? :whip:

Seriously, I'm thinking that if they can get it into syndication and show it all over the place like Stargate and Andromeda are now, they could build up the audience first and then bring out the "Never Before Seen Next Episodes" to a lot bigger audience than if they air it soon just to appease the already loyal fans. Yeah, it would suck waiting that long, but we've already waited this long, what's a little more? And it would be worth it to get all those added syndication viewers and get the ratings up. Also, that would give us sometime to organize something to help get the word out to even more people.

I'm thinking the creators do have something more in mind whether they get to do it or not. After all, if I remember correctly, they had the option to create half of season 5 to finish the series and opted not to do it.

Right now I'm just enjoying the moment and saying "I told you so!" to all those people who said this was impossible. :moon:

Hey, long time lurker here dropping in.

Just wanted to say that I felt a huge wave of relief pouring over me when I read the news; that's the only way I can describe it. I know there's still a lot of ground to cover, that nothing is finalized and a long road to traverse before all is said and done. But it feels like a long war of atricion has finally come to a close and Scapers are the ones still standing after the smoke has cleared.

I'd like to take the time to thank everyone for their hard work; from the ones on the frontlines to those who diligently write letters. Anyone and everyone who has involved themselves in this campaign deserves a standing ovation. Now that we're entrenched, it's time for some serious media bombardment.

Forgive my war analogies, it's the way I've envisioned this scenario play out since day one.

See, had it been a full season #5 or an animated picture, or maybe a theatrical release perhaps, the wording here would have been different: . . . How much Farscape will there be? I don't know, how much do you want and what are you willing to do to get it? . . .

This is only the beginning of what Farscape can and will be. . . .

This is almost ridiculously exciting!

I've been waiting for this moment since last September--mostly 'cos I want my show back, but partially 'cos I want to rub it in the faces of some of my nay-saying friends....

And as far as being dissatisfied with only four hours as opposed to a whole season: Hey, it's more than we had yesterday. Take joy in that.

THANK YOU to everyone who's worked on this campaign--and who plans to continue doing so. We're finally going to see some results! (If this pays off, I'm definitely volunteering for that political candidate I like!)

To everyone concerned that this is just another rumor:

I've noticed that on every rumor thread the moderators have been scrupulous about pointing out that, while those rumors were cool, they were simply rumors. Because of that, I see no reason that Red, waltersgirl, Jul, or the rest, would see fit to talk to us about this unless they had a VERY reliable source.

Nabet
11-19-2003, 12:55 AM
Red mentioned that this 4-hour miniseries is essentially episodes 4.23-26. What this suggests to me is that the "mini-series" is intended as a way to provide enough closure to the story to make Farscape more marketable in syndication. However, the fact they are calling it a mini-series might indicate that there will be a special screening of these four episodes, for the benefit of all us Farscape fans, before the show is picked up in syndication by other TV stations.

In my view, this is very good news indeed. It provides the fans with the closure they've been seeking (at least as far as the hanging threads from the first four seasons are concerned), but through syndication Farscape should pick up a whole new generation of viewers, making season 5 and beyond more of a possibility in the future.

Who knows, perhaps the reason that Henson have been so coy about the details is that they're in discussions right now to actually start filming season 5 once the last 4 episodes of season 4 wrap. Perhaps there is a buyer out there who is interested in season 5, but wanted closure on season 4 so that they could screen seasons 1-4 while season 5 is in production.

You never know!

Well,

Looks OK I guess. There's no Dargo or Chiana. No pilot or Rigel. No Moya or Granny. No Scorpious or Sikosu. Atleast no mention of them. Must have something to do with the freezedried condition of John and Aeryn in the "last" show. Missing the others already. Wonder if they get back together somehow.
Maybe. (Answering my own question) John does know how to use wormholes.

Well, I knew I had to do something, so I wrote a quick poem chronicling our efforts -

Well it was back in September 2002
When the Sci Fi Channel decided to
Cancel our show, our love, our dream
Because the ratings did not gleam.

An uproar surfaced, the fans gained exposure
In an attempt to get some closure.
Organised they were by the net
Their mission was one that was clearly set.

"Get the word out" was the cry
So more people would see our high.
TVGuide, CNN, Leno and more
The Scapers got into every pore.

A TV advert, the cover of Variety
(for which many thanks to the mysterious Clarvey)
Bad Timing came and left many a tear,
But in our hearts there was no fear.

Pumpkins and gift baskets, we got to the press
And finally got out of this fine mess,
For just earlier, Red reported that
"the rumors swirling have their basis in fact."

But our mission's not over, we still have our call,
To get the word out, but that's not all,
To see the world, to help others cope,
To make sure everyone understands the word "hope".

Today, I love everybody. Sitting here in the uni computer pool trying hard not to cry too obviously.

Still feeling a bit surreal. Will need time to assimilate the truth of this.

Love you guys. We've made a little bit of television history here. I'm proud to have been a part of this. I'm proud to *still* be a part of this.

OK allow me to be the first one to pout, stamp her foot and mummble "but I wanted a full season."

Ok brat kid impression over let me just say -

We have been given a seed, a mini-series, a chance. Let us take that seed and plant it in the fertile soil of our love, feed it with the warmth and light of our hope, water it with our sweet tears of our joy and allow this little seed to grow and blossom into a huge season tree.

Hey we're scapers. We can do anything.

It's funny, even though I never doubted that eventually there was going to be more Farscape, I never quite could shake the feeling that we were nothing but a bunch of crazy eddies. And it feels so good that crazy eddies can win for a change.

Even though you always make the point of saying that this has been a victory of the community as a whole I want to thank all of the sfs staff, we all did what we could and every effort was worth it, but I never had to stand any dren for my part of the effort and you did, lots of it, so thanks, from the bottom of my heart.

This is fantastic news, & it's the kind of news I have been wanting to see for a long time. For too long, I have seen these kinds of campaigns fail. I became so disillusioned with TV after FS was cancelled that I decided to mostly watch DVDs. I am just not interested in reality-shows & bad sitcoms. But I kept hoping that things would change because I think the kinds of shows I like should have a decent chance on TV, too. The success of the FS campaign gives me hope. Thank you, Scapers. I salute you! :aok:

Dear Scapers,

When I read the happy news today I felt a mix of emotions: joy, relief, pride and gratitude. The gratitude is aimed at all of you here at savefarscape.com who have worked for the last year and two months to bring back the best show most of us have ever seen. I have participated occasionally, writing letters to sponsors and networks and passing out flyers at local festivals. But many of you have kept the faith better and have worked much more tirelessly, and you are the ones to whom I am grateful and to whom much of the credit for this victory should go. So here’s my “HELL YEAH.” Congratulations and Thank You.

To celebrate - I plan to donate some Farscape DVDs to my local library. I can't remember - do you normally tag them with savefarscape.com information somehow? I not only want to hook people on the show. I also want to hook them on the movement, ya' know?

Okay, now that I got that out of my system!!!!

First, congratulations to all the dedicated Scapers out there who made this happen! You have done something that few others have been able to accomplish...you have resurrected the "dead." And what an amazing job you have done, too!!!

I would also like to say that this has been a remarkable 14 months for me, as I'm sure it has been for many of you. This is one of the greatest things I have ever been a part of, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved.

Next, I'd like to say thank you to Red, Jul, waltersgirl, and the other mods here. You never lost faith in our ablilities. You encouraged us when we faltered. You kept us in check when we became over-zealous (Remember that, Red??? ;) :D ). You have given us this wonderful site where we can come to work towards a new beginning for Farscape. You have also provided us with great resources to help with the campaign. So again, thank you all so much for your effort in this cause!!!!

Finally, we must remember that this announcment is not cause to stop the campaign. We must continue to write our letters. We must convert people into new fans. We must write letters of thanks to those who have helped us with our campaign (Matt Roush comes to mind). Also, when the official news comes out, I think we need to do something for the Hensons, similiar to what we did after they regained control over their father's company. But most importantly, we must not give up the fight! It's not over! We need to fight to get more, we need to fight to get more fans, we need to fight to show the people of and behind Farscape that we do love and support them in all of their efforts! This is only the beginning!!!

Congratulations to everyone, again!!!

Hi, I'm new to the Farscape thing, got my curiousity up by a friend who showed me his DVDs. He also told me there might be some interesting news, so I came here to check out the rumors.

I'm quite happy to see that something is indeed, happening. However, as a newcomer, I was taken rather aback by the response to MediaSavant's quite logical questions. Is "I told you so" "give it a bloody rest already" and "don't bother watching" standard responses from those whom I gather are in positions of leadership? Interesting.

But since I don't mind a bitten head now and then, here is my neck for your answering pleasure. I appreciate that answers may not be forthcoming, but I do hope there will be a time when they come.

Is it broadcast or straight to DVD? Since there is not a broadcaster mentioned, I'm wondering if Henson is going it alone.

My friend told me that when the series was cancelled by Sci Fi, Sci Fi offered 13 episodes and then offered a miniseries, but Henson as then owned by EM.TV couldn't afford to bear the costs for less than 22 episodes. What has changed Henson's position? Is it because they are no longer fully owned by the Germans?

What happened to the anime series, that was also a supposed go?

I appreciate that there has been a fan campaign of unprecedented size, although to be fair I must point out that series from Star Trek to Babylon 5 to Forever Knight to Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman have come back in some form after fan campaigns. But isn't really correct to say, in the midst of the self-congratulatory though well deserved backslapping, that the fate of Farscape more correctly rests in the hands of Brian Henson, David Kemper, Rockne O'Bannon, Ben Browder and the rest of the cast, plus the very important people who are nameless so far but who contributed the money that was missing at the time of cancellation? After all, if these people were missing, then no matter the fan hue and cry the series would not go on.

I appreciate that answers may not be forthcoming, but I do hope there will be a time when they come.

I think a lot of people are asking these questions - it's not that they aren't logical, it's just that, as you acknowledge, answers may not be forthcoming until we get an official official announcement :D.

What happened to the anime series, that was also a supposed go?

I never saw anywhere that the anime series was a definite "go" - it was discussed repeatedly as being "in development", but that's a very different thing (hence the Hollywood term "development hell" ...).

the fate of Farscape more correctly rests in the hands of Brian Henson, David Kemper, Rockne O'Bannon, Ben Browder and the rest of the cast

Absolutely! And, as you'll notice as you see more of the fandom, they get their fair share of worship :). But equally, they've all spoken very positively about the role of the fan campaign - e.g. Rockne's comments at ToBeCONtinued about the fan campaign "keeping them alive".

ScaperK

Veritas,

You're absolutely dead-on correct to say that without the so-far-unseen financial support of a big-time benefactor (though I'm not sure that's the best word here), Farscape couldn't have come back. But who would have paid for a miniseries if they hadn't been convinced of an audience?
And that's why "benefactor" doesn't work. Whoever is backing the miniseries is convinced that there will be a return on the investment. Convinced by organized, systematic fan support, at least in part.
I'm for celebrating today and coming down to earth tomorrow.

i don't need any more confirmation that what Red has said, for me her word is as good as Henson's :D Why? Because Red and all the others have always been very careful to point out when a rumour is just a rumour and they have always kept us grounded. Now if they say this is for real, then celebrate ppl cause we have Farscape back!!!! WOOOO FRELLING HOOOOO!!!

I just have a couple of things in my mind.

1 Farscape will continue as far as we fight for it, that is true, but it is also true that it will continue as far as the cast and crew are interested in it. I have never met any of them and never been to any cons, so the ppl that have been closer to them can tell if the interest is there. I have a sense that they are interested from the interviews and some of the comments i have read.

2. I have a feeling that Red knows more than she's telling...and if you can't tell, that's fine, i completely understand, i just hope that we get to know everything that you know someday :D

However, as a newcomer, I was taken rather aback by the response to MediaSavant's quite logical questions. Is "I told you so" "give it a bloody rest already" and "don't bother watching" standard responses from those whom I gather are in positions of leadership? Interesting.

As a newcomer, you should not judge on just that one post. There is a lot more to it than what you read and the only way to know about it is having spent a year here in the board reading almost every thread (that's a lot of info :D). Be sure that that is not the standard way of dealing with questions in this board, logical or not :D. I cannot explain what's behind that post because, first i don't have the authority, and second i don't have all the information. I'm sure wg could explain if she feels like it.

And welcome to the board and to scaperdom!!! Join the celebrations YAY!!!

Hi Veritas and welcome to the Frell Me Dead Boards!

I can see how some of the comments toward MediaSavant in this thread can be seen as hostile. There is unfortunately some antagonism between some mods and that particular poster which has a long history, and sadly both sides can be a bit short-tempered with each other. I'm sorry it reared up on this thread and I hope it doesn't dampen your enthusiasm for the site.

Is it broadcast or straight to DVD? Since there is not a broadcaster mentioned, I'm wondering if Henson is going it alone.

This is all information that will come with official confirmation from Henson. Sadly we are going to have to wait for an official announcement before we get the details.

Sci-Fi had signed on for two full seasons and publicized it. Then unfortunately the ratings began to dip and Sci-Fi became less enamored with the show as it changed management. They tried to back out of two-season deal by offering a 13-episode shortened season 5 (no miniseries) -- possibly with the next 13 eps hinging on the performance of the first. The major sticking point as far as I can tell was that Sci-Fi did not offer a realistic budget. The creators and executive producers of Farscape have addressed the 13-episode "season" offered by Sci-Fi and I trust them when they say that the offer was not enough to be creatively faithful to the show.

In negotiations with Hensons (then owned by EM.TV), there was some sword rattling, etc, and Sci-Fi said something to the effect of, "Fine, then we'll just cancel it." Cash-strapped EM.TV saw this as an out and took it. Now, Henson is in control. Specifically, Brian Henson has spent many years at the onset trying to get it produced and marketed and has a genuine love for the show. So the fate of Farscape is now back in the hands of those who have a passion for it.

Welcome Veritas!

Glad you decided to stop by. Regarding the response to MediaSavant, I feel that I should make it clear that it is highly unlikely that she received the response she did due to the nature of her questions, but more likely due to her tone (do a google search, and you'll see that this wouldn't be the first time her insistence on such a tone has elicited such a response). In fairness, I do feel that her questions are valid; perhaps if she chose to phrase them in such a manner in which they wouldn't be perceived as such a "wet blanket" she would find them better received.

To answer your question regarding distribution: no information has been provided at this time. It could be direct to dvd, premium network, or good 'ole regular television....

Information has not been disclosed regarding the production costs, either. Henson could be going it alone, but it is more likely that they have investors backing the project.

Your anime question is interesting. I don't believe anything's been mentioned about that recently; perhaps it has been shelved for the time being....maybe due to the mini-series.

I think that the success is a bit of a balance. It is *very* true that if Brian Henson, DK, Rockne, Ben, and everyone else were not involved, the project would be missing the talent and dedication necessary to make it a success. We're extremely lucky that they have been so gracious, and haven't given up hope. However, I don't think you can discount the fans either - you don't get funding for any project unless you can demonstrate a potential audience and fanbase. Like everything else, Farscape requires consumers....without the audience, you're missing a huge portion of the equation. I'm just thankful that in this case, we don't have to worry about either side, although we should still try to increase the fanbase as much as possible.

I have ONE word for you: HALLMARK!

Big on fantasy! Big on mini-series! Have always been BIG ON FARSCAPE!

RydraWong
11-19-2003, 09:53 AM
That's my suspicion too.

Hallmark are one of the few specialists in TV miniseries around - they were behind Dinotopia, 10th Kingdom, Merlin, Gulliver's Travels, etc. etc. And they've been involved in funding Farscape from the start.

They also have a track record of putting BIG money into miniseries, then recouping it via the global sales and video/DVD sales. So if they're involved, it could bode very well for the budget here .. :D

I see only one problem with Hallmark. Would that mean that it would then show on the Halmark Network?( which is not widely available as far as I know - if anyone knows better please tell me) If it IS shown on the Hallmark Network this could mean fewer eyes being able to watch it than there were when it was on skiffy. That would not be a good thing in my opinion. Now if it were simply a matter of Hallmark helping to finance it and helping to get it on a larger network as they do with many of their other projects that would be a completely different scenario.

Digger, Halmark has been a sponser all along. Just check the tail end of any episode and you'll see them listed right after Henson. If they are involved it doesn't really give us any hints on distribution one way or another

I've seen lots of Hallmark productions on major networks (including Dinotopia), so there's no reason to assume that if Hallmark is a major backer that would mean the mini-series could only air on the Hallmark channel.

I'm soo happy to hear this!

All I can ask for is closure to a story. And then continue forth with hopes for new stories!

Yay for the Hensons!

Man. I take a couple days off from the net and stuff to recuperate from Burbank (and this wicked cold I caught) and the world turns upside down! What great news!

Now our patience really gets tested. We know the show is coming back but we're gonna have to wait on details. TPTB will let us know what we need to know when we need to know it. Doesn't mean we won't drive ourselves crazy with speculation in the meantime though.

But, we've done what they said couldn't be done. We've brought back our show. And that's the bottom line. Now the hard part begins...

Digger

Digger, Halmark has been a sponser all along. I'm quite aware of that. I was just trying to point out that if the mini were shown ONLY on their small cable network that it might not be the best venue to hook more people.

I see some are still questioning Red's confirmation of the "rumor" of Farscape's return. To those I'd just say that if you've been around this site for a while, you'd know that Red, and everyone involved with the administration of this site, are very conservative when it comes to making statements like this. If Red says it's been confirmed, I'm sure it wasn't through just anyone.

If Red said she had confirmed that Saddam had WMDs, her I'd believe.

It's a new beginning for Farscape. It's going to happen! Believe it!

Stargate, from what I know the mini-series will be episodes 4.23-4.26. Sources were unable to confirm a distributor and network or syndication at this time.

Let's all join a virtual circle and PRAY the distributor isn't skiffy. For some reason this news doesn't fill me with 100% joy.....maybe because it's the part of me that believed there was going to be S5 and then Bonnie & Co. went Bonnicula on us. Perhaps it's post traumatic stress disorder from having all this stuff go down, etc......

Farscape is too good a concept to shelve.....I knew it would return someday. Don't get me wrong am
glad it is returning,(thank god not in cartoon form!!) but I am also VERY concerned how the 4 hours will be filled. I am a B5 fan......and fans of that show know how crappy and anticlimactic the miniseries was for it, after it was cancelled.
I guess I just have to have more faith, or eat more chocolate!

I agree that Hallmark is a likely home, and share some of the concerns about the network.

But, still, for the moment I think we should set the worry aside, just for a little while. We deserve it.

Can I just point something out? If Hallmark is still backing Farscape it doesn't mean that Farscape will be only shown on their tiny cable station.

Merlin and Dinotopia were shown on major networks. That is how I saw them and then ran out to by their DVD's so I could watch all 5 hours of each show.

I doubt that Hallmark would keep such shows that they pour their money into only on their network. They haven't in the past. I doubt they will with Farscape.

Wheeeeee! I've had so much fun trying to catch up on this thread that I just realized I forgot to post!!! :lol So, here it goes:

HELL YEAH!!!To celebrate - I plan to donate some Farscape DVDs to my local library. What a wonderful idea, ScaperK!!! I think I'll do the same :D Be sure to let Mickie know, though, so she can update the totals she's keeping for the Library Project ;)

We've got lots of cool projects going that need our attention now more than ever --

TV ad project: If we want to make a bang with ads before the eps air, we need to have a huge warchest of $$ available. Check out Xothas' thread at the top of the forum.

Military project: I know you all are familiar with Twich's amazing progress on this project, which has been also been pushed forward admirably by atlantagirl and the SouthEast Scapers (You all rock!!!). This is a great way to gain new viewers, people. The kinds of viewers that will help us get more than 4 new eps of FS. ;)

Library project: Check Mickie's thread at the top of this forum for information on this one. This is also a great way to extend the reach of FS to those who may not otherwise be aware of it. Remember, scientific studies have shown that 9 out of 10 people exposed to at least 3 episodes of FS become hopelessly hooked :ewink: Let's help spread the contagion while supporting our public libraries!!

Congratulations 'Scapers.

May your success lead to more of the same for other franchises and their fans.

You've earned your show back. And there are a lot of us who will add to your numbers and boost those ratings when it's time, fans supporting other fans.

Stay tuned after that skiffy miniseries airs, the BG universe hopes to have news too, the Geffen news release about our shows soundtrack re-release mentioned a movie on the drawing board. There may not be a flicker yet, but there are some promising sparks. ;)
