Hey all. I'm sick and so I can only think of rather dumb things to talk about....but "favorites" I suppose, are always kinda fun. Helps to get to know each other.

At any rate, I was wondering what sports everyone plays? And if you don't play sports, do you watch them?

I haven't ridden in about two years but I love to ride horses and compete with them. I have ridden in hunter/jumper shows and also in western competitions.

Currently, I am taking fencing at college. Kind of an odd choice for a Catholic university, but it's really fun! I had no idea how much I would like it. My friend and I took it because we wanted to be like Wesley and Inigo in "The Princess Bride." LOL

Also, I love to watch pro-football. My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers, although if you look at their record this season, I'm not sure why!

I also love to watch rodeos...particularlly bull and bronc riding. I think it's hilarious to watch those guys try to hang on for dear life...and knowing that's involunarily been me a few times! LOL

And, when the Olympics roll around, I sometimes watch the ice skating/ice dancing and the fancy diving type event. Sometimes the gymnastics. I'm amazed at what people can do!

If I'm at a baseball game, I like to watch it, but I can't watch one on tv. Too boring for me that way.

Well, I guess that's it. What about you guys?

Hmmm.. I really like playing basketball and tennis

Favorite sports to watch would be Hockey (RED WINGS :)) and Football..

I don't really watch sports much, but when I do it's either of those.

I also like watching figure skating whenever it's on.

ooh! Tennis! I love to play tennis! And pool! :D

I am the world's worst at both sports, LOL! But they are a lot of fun.

With tennis, I have a tendency to attack the ball w/ the racket like it's a baseball bat! LOL A tad too aggressive, I know. :P

And pool, well, let's just say I shot the cue ball through my best friend's *closed* basement window... :innocent:

I like watching football(American) and poker tournaments. I liked playing baseball, and basketball, but due to a knee injury I am sidelined forever.

I like watching boxing and football the most. Football probably most of all, especially college... it just seems like they want it more.

I played football and track and field (I was field) in high school. I played rugby in college. I was probably the best at rugby (and without a doubt the worst at baseball). I keep threatening my wife to go back to playing rugby... she doesn't think it's that funny - it can get rough.

Hope you feel better Jacqui... read some Pound - that'll confuse that cold right out of ya.

Isn't that da-Bears?

It kills me when someone from Chicago complains about baseball. You have the 86-87 Bears and the Bulls during the reign of Air.

No... Because I do not speak with a Chicago accent. I am much to cultured to talk like a South sider.(snobbish aren't I)

I'm sorry... that was insensative of me to mock regional accents like that. :D

LOL Thanks, stellar! I think I have some Pound in a couple of my lit books, so maybe I'll do that. Although, I have two 10-12 page papers I need to work on...one about the rebuilding of Paris after 30 or so years of revolution, and one on some aspect of Poe. Probably the psychology of Poe...or something. LOL I haven't really thought about it.

*looks around* where did all these snobs come from??? :P j/k Love ya, grinner! hehehe

Hey stellar, is rugby as painful as it looks? I always thought I would like to try it, but I don't think there are any local teams... :(

Heh...

To play, I like mainly to swim. Most lap-stuff, I can't really do water-polo. I mostly prefer the 100 and 200 m freestyles. *nod nod*

To watch, I like soccer, like rugby (it's like football, but more fast-paced in my opinion) and right now I'm getting a huge-kick out of slamball. Slamball is basely basketball, but with smaller teams and the addition of - get this - trampolines at the ends of the court. You can't go wrong with anything and trampolines. :D

It's a good pain. I still think on it fondly... If it weren't for rugby I wouldn't have half of the close friends I have now, I wouldn't have learned all I did about competition and brothers in battle, I would be able to play basketball without an ankle brace and would still have my original eyesocket floor.

Good times.

My absolute favorite sport is football. After that, I prefer either baseball or hockey (depends on the time of the year: if hockey season is going on, then it is my second fave). I am not a big fan of basketball. Here are my favorite teams:

Football: Do I realy have to say? If you don't know, please look at my screen name, avatar, and signature.

Baseball: The Twins
Hockey: The Wild
Basketball (when I am in the mood for it): The Timberwolves

When I cheer for college teams, I always pull for the University of Minnesota even though I live in Wisconsin and go to college in Wisconsin.

Whenever I hear/read "water-polo" I'm reminded of an episode of M*A*S*H when Hawkeye (drunk) says, "I used to play water-polo...but my horse drowned!" hehehe I love M*A*S*H

stellar, thanks for the graphic info on rugby, LOL! New eye socket floor, huh? How's that working out for you? :P

Hockey - Canadians (Habs)
Football - Raiders
Basketball - Celtics

I love Hockey, but I am a slow skater, so I never excelled at it.

I am very good at soccer, or I was, no scholarship offers though, so not that good.

I was good enough to get invited to try out for the Canadian Olympic Handball team. I never went, my mother thought it was a bad idea. I did drugs instead (not a win/win)

I excelled at baseball, and probably could have gone far with it, college? beyond? I'll never now, and I'll never care. I find it to be a mind numbing exercise in boredom. I'd rather mow grass with a butter knife.

I suck at Tennis, just really really suck, and would like to play, I'm no good at any racket sports exept maybe badminton, and who wants to admit that. (crap)

I like candlepin bowling, but my dad says that's not a sport.

I was on a swim team when I was in junior high, and I won a few meets. I think it was because everyone else was really really bad.

I was very much into martial arts as a youth, and into my early twenties. I haven't had much use for it lately. Not sure why. I enjoyed them. I mostly involved with Judo (broken toes, ouch!)

I raced BMX bikes, won some trophies, broke some bones, made mom cry, that ended that.

I use to enjoy watching motorcross racing, ice racing (anything on ice with motors was cool) but not so much anymore.

I'm not a race car fan. I like drag racing, but only when I'm behind the wheel. My Neon doesn't make the cut, so I don't do it anymore. I never won anyway.

I like snowmobiling.

Skiing, both nordic and alpine.

I have a friend who is a professional speed boat racer. It has nothing to do with me, but I like telling people that. I can beat him at thumb wrestling.

I wrestled in school, or with school, doesn't matter, I lost.

I tried water polo, liked it, but it was too strenuous for me.

I can eat a lobster without any special tools.

Hockey: To watch and play. Although, I haven't played in years, and haven't been able to watch many games the last couple seasons. Life keeps becoming chaotic around Hockey Season.

Team: Canadiens.

I had hopes for Tampa Bay Lightning back when they were new. Since then, I've pretty much given up hope.

We have a minor league Hockey team here, but I don't think they'll last much longer. It was a novelty to have a Hockey team (or ice for that matter) in south Louisiana... and the novelty has worn off.

Well, like Ashely, I am a big Detroit Red Wings fan. I like watching them on TV or if I ever get tickets (which is like once or twice a season) I love to watch them live. I'll watch Michigan football games once in a while, but football is a little too stop and go for me.

My favorite sport to play would be kickboxing, even though I'm not very good, I just like to hit things :D I would also like to learn how to play ice hockey, but I just don't have the money for lessons or all the gear you have to get.

I threw shot put and discus in high school, but I was awful.

sigh all these wings fans. Could be worse: Leafs fans :D there's an old Hockey Night in Canada (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/) commercial with the Habs goalie in full gear on a ride-em lawnmower driving over some leaves (instead of raking them) yelling "die maple leafs, die!" :lol

As for my hockey team:

GO OILERS!!!

Not a big NFL fan, watch the CFL (http://www.cfl.ca/) a bit. As their slogan goes "Our balls are bigger!" :D That, and a real football player can get it in 3 downs ;) (WAY TO GO ESKIES -- 2003 Grey Cup Champions!) And did I mention that the league is over 90 years old?

But enough joking aside, my two primary sports are

Summer: Ultimate (aka Ultimate "frisbee")-- http://www.ultimatehandbook.com

Winter: Curling -- http://www.curling.ca

Wow... only die hard Canadians watch the CFL. Only really, die hard Canadians defend it too. You sir should be prime minister.

Here's some curling pictures from last years Brier (That's the National Championship)

As for football:

I tried watching a "Super-bowl" (as it were) a couple of years ago. Even had the benifit of playing NFL Sunday Ticket on NTN at the time. It had to be the first NFL game I ever saw from beginning to end.

I wound up winning the day on NTN Sunday Ticked because I just kept picking: Run left. Run right. Run middle. Run left. Run right. Run middle. Run left. Run right. Run middle. Pass. *Damn* Run left. Run right. Run middle. "Don't they ever throw the frelling ball?" :D :lol  :flee:

I use to curl...beer.

Hockey Night in Canada, Oh that brings back memories. When I was a kid, around 9, I had gotten a little black and white TV, used. I put it on my dresser and played with the antannae until I got a signal. We had 3 stations, CBC, ATV/CTV, and the french station, CBFT I think, not sure about that. Anyway, I would wait all week for this. It was a huge event for me. I was able to convince my mom to buy me an air popcorn popper, and I was also able to get my own case (one every 2 months) of pop shop soda. I'd close my door, with my popcorn and soda, and watch the game. Later on, I found some friends who joined in on the action. Then I got a color TV! Holy crap I was cool, then cable! I was the man, then, then... I stopped watching Hockey Night in Canada cause I had movie channels.

It was good while it lasted, and Guy Lafleur and Ken Dryden were no longer playing, so it was basically over anyway.

Memories...
