View Full Version : My one beef with Farscape

It's not even really a beef with it, because, seriously, a show this great, how can anything be that upsetting in it?
The problem I have is that whenever someone gets beaten up (I know, I know, it happens so rarely!!! :P ) they never have any bruises or scrapes or anything!
Arg! That just bothers me. Just once I'd like to see a bruise! LOL Is that so much to ask for?
I mean, I am a clutz. I spend a lot of time falling down (w/ or w/o the involvement of alcohol) and I know what a bruise is! I have about four nice ones right now, and I just think that there should be some bruises or scrapes on Farscape. LOL
Okay, my little rant is done. Actually, I'm just procrastinating...I don't wanna write that paper!!! Waaaah!!!

It must be all those foodcubes they eat.
In Dog With Two Bones, John is still sporting some bruises he got from Scorpy back in Into the the Lion's Den. I did find it strange though in Crichton Kicks that a big ugly hound takes a chunk out of his leg and he doesn't limp much afterwards. Like I said, it must be the foodcubes. :D

In 'Bone to Be Wild', Zhaan collects herbs and such when D'Argo is seriously hurt which she says,
ZHAAN: These leaves and fungus will completely heal D'Argo's injuries.
Zhaan was pretty busy collecting during most of the episode, so maybe they got a goodly amount of the 'miracle' stash and that is why no one sports scrapes and bruises.
Mind you that explanation won't work for Crichton Kicks 'cause he is on Elack and Zhaan's stash would have remained on Moya.
Yep. Must of been the food cubes.

I agree, they bleed a lot! They're always bleeding! LOL
Aeryn had that whole nerve-gone-bad thing in "Nerve," and Zhaan had her arm in a brace thing in "Out of Their Minds," but no one has had a bruise! LOL
It just irks me!

First, I think "Horizons" only accounted for why they live so long...but I could be mistaken.
Second, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE FOODCUBES!!! LOL
You know what's really bad? You're sitting there, you're watching Farscape, and you start to think, 'you know what? Those foodcubes look pretty damn appealing!' :rollin: Ever happen to anyone else? Especially the crackers in CDM! I want some! Anyone know what kind they were? LOL

Good question.
Um, they're made with Haw and come in little packages of wrapped up thin flat disks. You can find them at any asian market. They're cheap, sweet and if you're a little kid, you can pretend they're big pancakes for your dolls.

Some people just don't bruise as easily as others, frell, I had bruised ribs from being 'speared' (that's hit with a helmet in football) and didn't show a frellin' thing. Hurt like hell though, couldn't do anything for the longest time. Laughing was the worst of it, by far. Glad I wasn't looking at FMD back then...
But back to the point, if all people don't bruise the same, I'm sure aliens could be very different...

John has plenty of bruises in "Into The Lion's Den" (both parts). Aeryn had some nasty ones after she was hit by a chunk of falling Moya in "Natural Election". In "Terra Firma", Sikozu sported some big ones when she takes the transport pod back to where Scorpy's hanging out. And it seems to me that Crichton also sports some bruises in "Look At The Princess".(Hmmmm, I might have to watch these again to make sure.) I know for sure that Aeryn has some after she falls down the cliff in the final part of that trilogy. And, as someone noted before, black-T John has a scar, which green-T John doesn't have. However, I don't remember any bruises after D'Argo nearly kills him in "Revenging Angel".
what I think is odd, though, is how EASY it seems to be to kill Charrids. I wonder why they even bother to wear that "armor".

I think Aeryn was a little bruised in LATP:A Maltese Crichton, in that last kiss tag scene......but that could just be a trick of the eyes......

You know, I'm pretty sure Chiana had some bruises when she first showed up in Crichton Kicks... Darn. Now I'm going to have to go watch it again! :D

That was a Twilight Zone episode. Funny, they used to make half hour shows so good they seemed like a damned movie.

They are wounded on the inside ... that's why there's no bruises on the outside ... although John did have a cut lip in one episode after Scorpy pounded his head on a console ... remember in ITLD!
And from what Ben told us that pounding was as real as it looked as Wayne got a little carried away during the scene ... so when you see Crichton's head hit that console it really hit the console and Ben said the pain was real.:g2f:
Then there were the cuts and scrapes Aeryn had in LATP when she fell off the cliff.

I disagree about the crackers. They look like Keebler Club crackers to me. Those come in little perforated rectangles of four crackers, just like CDM.

Do you remember the scene in the LATP trilogy where John tells Braca that he'll bleed out and die on him if Braca shoots him (you know, the infamous 'kill my sex life' scene?) He says he's not like Sebaceans..and if that's true, and consistent, he should have more bruises and bleeding than Aeryn..and certainly more than D'argo, who doesn't bleed freely at all.
Chiana's should be dark blue or black...don't know how freely she'd bleed..and there's no reason Zhaan should bruise anything like humans, plant cells are a completely different structure. Rigid. And Rygel didn't bleed much when he was sliced open in Relativity.
So there could be a reason John's the only one sporting much in the way of bruises. Of course, he also gets banged around the most!

The crackers in CDM are some kind of Aussie crackers that can be found in just about any Aussie market. I'm not remembering the name of them but that's what they were.
As to the whole bruises issue, you could make the same point about them never using the toilet either (which is my big TV pet peeve). Of course they do "relieve" themselves when comedically necessary (Rygel peeing flames, Rygel in John's body peeing in the cargo bay, etc.) It's just one of those TV things. Painting on bruises takes time and makeup and costs money, money that could be better spent on other things like SFX and stuff.

I can deal with that, since most episodes (I think all) aren't in real time...so they only really include the information that's essential to the episode. We don't really need to see them "going". But bruises usally last at least a couple of days.

They wear them so they won't see death when it's coming. (Those weird curtain-like thingies, you know...) ;-)
