FARSCAPE IS BACK

At least to tie up all the loose ends.

Check out the details on the Mainpage and visit www.scifioverdrive.com to listen to the interviews with our very own save farscape creators and reps.

Hr. 2- The return of "Farscape" was formally announced the week of November 20th as a mini-series set to tie up the loose ends left at the end of the series' fourth season. In light of this massive effort by the fans to do in one year what took others longer (fourteen years for "Doctor Who", for example), Lauren Urban talks with members of the "Save Farscape" campaign and other Scapers after scoring a major victory- bringing a science fiction series back from the dead!

This is where first heard about it. Looking for official press release right now. Look for updates. We have alot to be thankful for! Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to all!

Thanks RydraWong for the info. I have been gone for Thanksgiving and have been out of the loop. Still even unofficial it is great news, and sounds credible. www.Imdb.com has it listed already for 2004.... So some people know somethings we don't.

I'll hold off on the champagne until the official release, but celebrate now all the same.

Check out the thread that RydraWong was kind enough to guide me too.

There hasn't been an official press release or announcement yet, but savefarscape.com announced the news from a "source" - you can read that announcement here:

Thanks for the info Rydrawong. It is exciting and suspenseful isn't it?!?!!

Just think that at the Con the actors and actresses and everybody involved is getting ready. They would have already been reading scripts, working on making new costumes, rebuilding the sets, preparing to perform. Think of the fortitude they have to keep that a secret. In a way I wish the word hadn't of gotten out. It would have been cool to come home one day and see "FARSCAPE RETURNS: Watch it Friday at 7pm on SCIFI " That would have been an awesome surprise, but I am sure my heart will jump when I see it for real. It will probably stick in my throat from the moment I see the advertisement to the time I see the episode.

So exciting. Farscape Fridays will return!!

Now, everybody go to www.imdb.com , and do a search on "Farscape". You know, to get the "hit" counts up.

Glad too, and I have already been there. I'll visit a few more times before the night is over. (By the way what is Imdb? I just learned of it tonight!)

IMDB.com is a very large database of just about any movie ever made, anywhere, since the history of moving pictures. It also includes television shows. It's a definitive encyclopedia on the subject of movies. I've found even the most obscurest television shows listed there -- including the show that our local JA (Junior Achievement) group produced on a local television station. I don't know how complete it is regarding films made abroad (i.e. Hong Kong, or Bollywood), but regarding American and Western European works, it's a definitive source.

'Farscape' to return as miniseries
By Dave Mason, dmason@VenturaCountyStar.com
November 22, 2003

"Farscape," a sci-fi series loved by fans and TV critics, is going back into production as a four-hour miniseries after a long campaign to bring it back.

The fan-run savefarscape.com has reported -- and those close to the production confirmed last week -- that the series, which focuses on the sole human in the far reaches of the galaxy, will come back.

Filming reportedly is scheduled to start in December in Sydney, Australia, where "Farscape" was filmed in the past. Most of the cast is returning, but there's no word yet on which network will air it.

The series finale in March closed with the onscreen words "to be continued" as aliens apparently turned lead characters John Crichton (Ben Browder), the human astronaut, and his alien lover, Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black), into dust. Browder and Black will be back in the miniseries, and fans learned at a "Farscape" convention Nov. 15 in Burbank that executive producer David Kemper was in Australia working on an unspecified project. The fans cheered, knowing the project could only be "Farscape."

The "Farscape" cast, including stars Browder and Black, expressed enthusiasm but kept their lips sealed -- through broad smiles -- at the convention about details of "Farscape's" return. A teleconference with reporters, scheduled for Nov. 13, was postponed at the last minute.

Since "Farscape" was canceled, fans, organized in "Scaper" clubs, started a campaign over the Internet at savefarscape.com and through TV commercials that they paid for to save the show.

Executive producer Richard Manning last year said he was impressed by the sophistication of the fans' campaign. The efforts have been similar to the fans' campaigns for the Agoura Hills-based "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" and the original "Star Trek" series.

Hmm... Is it possible Mr. Mason was a Con attendee?

Here's Something From IGN, possibly came off the Savefarscape site. I just wanted to show the coverage we are getting though.

(For all of you that went to the convention, how did that go? I wasn't able to make it and haven't heard much. Fill me in if you please. Anything cool and unexpected happen? I tried to watc for those of you that went on Leno, but I couldn't pick you guys out.)

Heres the IGN thread.

Confirmed: Farscape Miniseries on the Way!
The rumors are true...

November 14, 2003 - As IGN FilmForce reported back in July, a new Farscape project is finally on its way. While an official announcement was postponed earlier this week, IGN FilmForce has learned that the production office in Australia has re-opened and work has begun on a new project.

The Henson company would not comment on the information but a source close to the production has confirmed that the new project will be a miniseries, not a new season as originally hoped for by the fans. While no plot details are available, sources have also confirmed that the new project will be independent from the Sci-Fi Channel, the network that broadcast the series. No information is currently available about just where the new miniseries will be appearing or when.

Obviously, this is good news for the fans that have fought so hard to bring the series back but there may be cause for guarded optimism. The miniseries is currently seen as a standalone project with no new episode commitment attached, so nothing is guaranteed beyond this project. More information as it becomes available right here at IGNFF.

I didn't know they reported something back in JULY time to find out what that was.

Here's the July thread from IGN - sounds to me like the Hensons are footing the tab on this one. SCIFI apparently knows nothing about it.

While you're at it check this out

I'll try to find more. For those of you that work at savefarscape constantly I urge you to find out what you can from the Henson Company and see about getting a press release, possibly the postponed one from the convention.

If you check out the Conventions sections of the boards here, you'll find a bunch of reports. There's also a very detailed report at http://www.snurcher.com./con/Burbank2003/report.html

As you'll see, there was a lot of very unsubtle hinting going on ... :)

It sounds like there are some technical reasons why Henson's can't issue an official press release yet, but they were obviously all having a hard time keeping the secret :D.

Because I wasn't there for the convention this news is quite new and exciting to me. Here is what Rydra was talking about. I found it extremely funny and a very "unsubtle" hint.

Rockne walked out onstage with red duct tape over his mouth; after carefully removing it from his mouth (and mustache), he grinned and commented, "Henson gave me this."

"Obviously this would [have been] a great venue for an announcement, if one were ready..."

"I should really be home right now, writing hour #3..."

"Henson still dotting i's and crossing t's, but if it were possible to read between the lines, ever..."

[wild applause]

"You're applauding for the show, but you're really applauding for yourselves, too. Hang in there."

Sounds like the real reason they couldn't make an official announcement was for some hang up in legalities. They gave more than enough to get the point across.

It was more of a Wink, wink, punch in the side than nudge, nudge.

I wish I could've been there.

From a trade magazine ,,,

Science fiction series Farscape will be resurrected with a production of a mini-series directed by Brian Henson, to be filmed at Sydney Waterfront Studios in 2004. The series was cancelled last year after four seasons.

The mini-series, which was written by Farscape creators David Kemper and Rockne S. O'Bannon, is inteded to bring greater closure to the series.

The main cast will return for the mini, including American lead Ben Browder and Australians Claudia Black, Raelee Hill, Anthony Simcoe and Gigi Edgley.

Apparently this was written back in September. Henson Company has since been bought back by Brian Henson and Family. As we know Brian is a fan and supporter of Farscape and has been as insturmental in its return as anyone. Things have changed since then. Our efforts have paid off. SaveFarscape.com has taken such an out of the box approach to getting attention that it is hard to ignore.
Maybe we are not getting our full series, but we are getting something to leave us at peace. In the article that you mention KJB references other shows that weren't revived. He mentions that Farscape's sets were destroyed, those can be rebuilt; the cast has departed, they can be recalled. He sounds pessimistic.
Look what has happened, because of our commitment and the commitment of the creators and cast we are finally getting something back. The official announcement is all caught up in red tape (as Rockne hints at during the convention) and legalalities, but the hints are more than obvious.
KJB fails to mention that, I believe it was Cagney and Lacey, was resurrected after being cancelled after one season. Fans brought it back, and it lead a great series life with great ratings.
From our determination, our hard work, our contributions our commitment we have done something really great - we have gotten our show back.
Do not let anyone discourage you from reaching your dreams. When they say quit put more effort into it. You will succeed.

WE have succeeded!
