I was just reading a fe threads and a thought crossed my mind. How did people come to learn of Farscape? Did they watch the pilot, get hooked and go from there? Did they start somewhere else in the series?
Here's how I got hooked on FARSCAPE:
It was a winter night in 2001. There was nothing to do outside, it was dark, no snow to shovel or make snowballs with and throw at my brothers. It was just plain cold. My brothers and I were sitting on the sofa in our new house. We were channel surfing, as all guys do. I had the remote flipped through a few channels and got bored with what I saw. I gave the remote to my brother who did the same thing, flipped through channel after channel. He flipped to SCIFI and on it was this alien, this huge crab thing. I told him "This is stupid turn it." (Yes, I actually called Farscape STUPID.) He just had to give me the older brother a tease and so he said "No, were going to watch this",
"Why? It is just another cookie cutter space program like Star Trek."
"We're going to watch it just because you dont want to."
"Fine" I told him.
"Good" he said.
We watched and as we watched I listened to the story. Listened to what the characters had to say. I wanted to hear more. The more watched the more I wanted to watch. I fell in love with the romance, suspense, and smarts of the show. ( I think I entered the series somewhere in early season two)
Of course, seeing that I was getting into it my brother had to change it, just to annoy me. We fought over the remote, literally fought over it. We argued over why he shoudl change it back. I got hooked. I was SCAPED!!!
From then on I was a Scaper. Watched it every Friday, every special full day extravaganza I was able to watch. I watched it after my High School Football games for the 11:00 showing. I have gone into Aerospace Engineering partly because of Farscape, it has affected my life that much. I want to see if other races do exist. I want to see if Sebacean babes exist. (Please, Please, GOD let them be real, and that beautiful!! :ewink:
Thank God for younger brothers!!!
Now what is your story? I'd like to hear from everybody.:aok:

I read TV Guide fall preview, thought the picture of John getting thrown across the floor was funny, but that was because I thought the ship was lurching or something. (apparently I interpreted it as cool action or something). I was disppointed to find the show was pushed back, especially after watching the ads with the transport heading to a commerce city--unlike any show I was watching at the time, which was probably Stargate and whatever cult show was on Friday on Fox that season. Then the pilot finally aired. I watched. And watched.
Somewhere around A Bug's Life, Nerve and Hidden Memory I started to really like it. By the end of season two, I was hooked permanently. The idea of John losing his mind fascinated me. Oddly, as my interest grew, my interest in Star Trek took a huge nose dive till it kinda died.
Its always the family members, isn't it? I first realized scifi existed outside of Star Trek when my sister introduced me to the X-Files, which made me distrust origami and fish tanks for a while. I tried to convert my brother to Farscape but his interest extends a handful of episodes. I consider that pretty good though, since he NEVER watches TV.

I am not sure of the Episode I am sure I will remember while I dream. I would know if I saw the episode again, but because I dont get the SCI FI channel at Purdue, and dont have all the dvds I cannot be sure. I will have to think and get back to you on that.

I actually got my whole immediate family hooked. Especially my mom. Every Friday we would make pizza and watch Farscape, it brought us together as a family.

I had a similar experience to Pheonixphire's, in that I actually thought the show was "stupid" (as I've related elsewhere, I was in a bad mood, fighting with my then-girlfriend, the shrieky theme song got to me...some time later, the girlfriend's gone and I reeeeally LOVE this show). Because of all the dren in my head and in my life, the first few minutes of "Throne for a Loss" turned me off to Farscape. It took the intervention of a very good friend, who convinced me to give the show another chance. (Remind me to buy her something nice for xmas.)
By this time, it was close to the end of Season 2--specifically, "Liars, Guns & Money" time. I'd seen a few bits and pieces here and there that grabbed my interest--like the Aeryn/Crais/Aurora Chair moment--but my life kept interfering with Friday nights. Needless to say, "LG&M" REALLY got my attention. When I got to the end of "Die Me, Dichotomy," I found myself crying out a phrase I wouldn't use again with such grief until the end of "Bad Timing": "THEN WHAT HAPPENED?!??!!"
Over the next few weekends, Skiffy made a rare wise decision and showed a six-episode "Essential Farscape" run, which both caught me reasonably up to speed and allowed me to hook a couple of other people. For instance, "The Locket" helped me snag a roommate who had done a lot of work in retirement homes, and thus had an affinity for charming old people. (We ended up calling the episode "On Golden Planet.")
And then, Season 3 hit. I managed to get all my roommates in the tv room on that Friday night, insisted that they check out this show--and walked away with four bright-eyed converts. During the first commercial break of "Season of Death," one of my friends intoned the following: "I have NO idea what's going on, but it's AWESOME."
So that's my story....

Cool stories.
My co-worker, whom I would talk about Xena and Star Trek with, told me about this great show. I sat down and watched (I don't remember what ep it was) with my mother, and at the end we turned to each other and said; "that was really good. When is it on again?"
But she cannot stay up until 11pm on Sundays, so we haven't been watching, though I have been slowly collecting tapes of the eps (I don't have a DVD player yet, thank you, more important things to do to my house first, 0K, like getting the toilet fixed!).
But I do remember being hooked from the first time I watched. And no other show ever has caught my attention and my imagination to the extent that I am involved in fan activities like this, and Twin Cities Scapers.

I was flipping through the channels around the beginning of June sometime (not this June) and saw previews for some show with a grey chick on it. Looked intriguing, so I tuned in. The first episode I ever saw was "Crichton Kicks." I was more than a little confused, but I think I got it now! ;)

i was also channel surfing and happened to catch the first episode between 8:00 and 8:10. to a true TV watcher, anything's a better investment when you catch it closer to the beginning. well, for me that's the case. so i finished the episode. i ended up finishing the series.

How did I find Farscape??
Delicious :D.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist ...)
Seriously, I was bored and channel-hopping, and saw "Family Ties". Sat through it with no idea who the frell these people were or what the obviously-very-complicated backstory was ... but completely mesmerized by all the passion and engagement and smart writing and excellent acting on display.

I'm your classic "fan before it was released" type. I heard a buzz about a new Henson project and I researched it. Found out about Farscape. Saw the promos. Counted the days. Watch the Premiere :D minus some times without cable or dish service, I've been watching it ever since.

My fiance recommended it when we first got together. He liked it a lot and knew that I had similar tastes in SciFi shows. So I bought the first season 1 set of tapes and got hooked immediately. Bought all that were out at the time and started watching the new ones (this was at the very end of S3). I finally saw all of them when skiffy was rerunning them at midnights.
Watching Farscape together (or each at our own homes, 1000 miles apart, with phone calls during commercials) was the highlight of the week. Or sometimes one of us would tape them between visits and we would have a marathon when we got together. Fun! I miss it.......

Believe it or not, I was cruising the science fiction section of my video store and saw some of the first season DVD's. I had never heard of Farscape and my cable station did not yet have SciFi, but I was intrigued. I asked a friend about Farscape, got a good report from him and ordered the first couple DVDs from Amazon. They were great, I was hooked and started collecting the rest of the season one DVDs, then seasons two and three agonizine month by month as they slowly trickled out. We got SciFi at the end of season three and I have been watching on TV since, as long as it lasted. And of course I will watch the mini-series on what ever channel it appears.

I saw the previews for it back when it premiered. I thought it might be moderately interesting, but I had the scuzziest cable company of them all and they didn't get Skiffy. In fact, they only got about 40 channels, counting the 7 locals.
By the time we broke down and got the dish, I had forgotten about the show. That and I kind of figured it was one of those can't come in in the middle type of shows. Well, you could, but it would be difficult. I wasn't home much anyway so I didn't think about it.
Then came late fall/winter of 2001, that's when Skiffy did weekday reruns. Having the east coast feed on the west coast, it was on at 4pm. I was normally home from class by then, or maybe 10 after at the latest, so I caught PK Tech Girl as the first ep and watched if I was home for the next couple of weeks.
It wasn't until they started showing the season 2 eps, specifically the Look at the Princess trilogy, that I really became hooked. I went out and rented Premiere/I, ET. After that I decided to just give up and go out and buy the ones that were already released.
I was glad when they started doing 4-5 ep sets, that saves some money, though Farscape is still much more expensive than any other hour long series which are wisely released by season.
I'm hooked to this day, though I wasn't really pleased with season 4. I did get the hubby hooked, but he gave up at Promises and hasn't come back. I can still get him to watch the occasional season 1-3 episode.

I was waiting for my future hubby to get off work one Friday night while in college. I was throwing back a few beers and flipping through the channels with a few friends. I tuned into the what's happend on seasons one and two thing they aired before season three. I wsa hooked right away, but none of my friends were. I was forced to tape it and watch it later.

I followed Stargate SG1 over from UPN, and discovered Farscape for myself at the end of Season 3. At first I thought it was weird and goofy. The eps I saw at first, weren't the real hooking ones, I forget the name (the two parter with the dying leviathon crashing into the planet and Jul stays on the planet at the end), anyway, I watched those skipped a few (missed the Stargates too).
Then I saw "Lava's a Many Splendored Thing" and a couple of other eps and said OH! SOOooo that's what's happening here, this show is awesome!
I've never missed it since, bought the DVD's, etc.
Oh NOOOO the cable guys here to shut off my cable internet service. Temporarily, a few minutes he said... Gotta go.
One friday me and the family were channel surfing for something to watch on a friday night, and came across the intro to farscape. Well, while the show was on, there wasn't a single sound made by me, the woman, or the kids(they were like 7 and 9), and during the commercials all we talked about was the show(this episode was like 4 or 5 of season 1). After a few weeks of this, we finally came to, and realized that we had a new favorite thing to do on friday nights. Not just a favorite show, but something all of us liked alot! We rescheduled things that would interfere with watching the show and would even cancel or not attend events that coincided. We even dealt with the scheduling flip flops and the fact that here in Arizona we do not have daylight savings, so every so often we would sit down to watch it and BAM, it is on an hour later. We didn't miss a single eppisode until ep1 Season 5!!! (yes I know, there hasn't been one yet, but that is my point)
The week after "Unrealized realities" we were like, HEY where the hell is our show! I went online round that time and found that the show had been cancelled. Man were we pissed, and quite sad. Luckily I found out we still had half of a season coming to us.
I found SaveFarscape when it first went up and have been lurking eversince. I have visited this page every single day since(with a few exceptions). I have Converted a few, and sent out letters and emails on a rather regular basis. Sadly I have just recenlty register here. Why did I take this long you ask? When you find out please let me know.
Me and the woman were chatting the other night and discovered something rather curious about our Farscape addiction. It would seem that the Cancellation of the show has meant almost as much to us as the inevidible return of the show. I would never in a million years guessed that there were so may others so willing to do anything for something like this. Without the cancellation would the Farscape community have ever gelled like it has???
Thank you everyone, for being soooooo passionate about this show. If there is any hope for its future, it is in our hands.
I did tell my little girl once that when she was my age there would be movies and spinoffs. I look at the kids and remember when me and my mom would sit down to watch the Star Trek reruns, and go to the movies. That meant so much to me.
Oh well, I'll shut up now..

my aunt and uncle (who are scifi people) told my parents there was this cool new scifi show.....they said it was by henson which got us interested.......however they were raving about a frog guy who was hilarious (they may be scifi people - but they have very strange sense of humor so we were wondering what we were in for) anyways - so that friday we checked and were hooked.....but we were TV people anyways so it just became another of our schows until i started visiting the Dom and getting fullscale into Scaperdom - when i COULDN"T miss an ep or i would freak........
so i am one of the ancients at the Dom.......and still LOVE scaperdom.......and have just converted one of my closest friends (who is in afganistan for the army and doesn't have any other options of things to watch so i ahve been force feeding him farscape on cd-r.......he saw the look at the princess trilogy (one of the first one's that i actually downloaded) and said to "keep it coming") so here is not only my conversion story - but my friend's!
