OK, I got this straight from a person at ADVFilms today on the phone live. Kelly (I think was his name) was very patient with all my questions and answered them fully in a professional manner. I know someone else reported this but I wanted to reiterate it. Here's the dealio:

The Farscape Season 4 Collection 1 DVD HAS been released. They shipped out to retailers last week and should be arriving in stores this week. As with most major chain stores, your corner Best Buy (for instance) gets their merchandise from centralized warehouses. The shipments were sent to these warehouses last week (admittedly they were shipped late). Thus it's taking a little longer for the DVDs to get to the stores and on the shelves (or shipped out for internet orders) I was told by Kelly to simply check back with the retailer I buy from later in the week to see if the DVDs have come in. I'm gonna check with my local Best Buy later today and I'll let you know what I find out.

As for the release dates that Best Buy and Amazon.com have, they are bogus. The rep at ADV I spoke to said they (Best Buy etc.) make up "ficticious" dates when items don't arrive in their warehouse on time. So, basically the dates of 12/23 & 12/24 are bulldren.

Now, about the report of extras being missing from the discs. ADV has had no such reports from anyone about anything being wrong with the discs. So the post here must be an isolated incident.

Ok, everybody feel better? Good. Now sit back, relax and call your local retailer and bug the hell out of them until you get your Farscape fix. That's what I'm going to do.

No wonder DeepdiscountDVD.com hasn't shipped my pre-order yet! Normally, they send them out a few days early.

Just got off the phone with my local Best Buy. Now, keep in mind the caliber of employee that I usually encounter. These guys ain't rocket scientists, especially the ones that work in my area. Anyway, when asked if they had any copies of 4.1 they said...

wait for it...

they DO!!!

And it's on sale for $23.99!!!

So, guess where I'm headed as soon as I can get my arse outta the office? That's right. Chuck E. Cheese! No, seriously. I'll post later once I get my greedy little hands on a copy.

See? Patience is a virtue and this week I've been very virtuous. But that's about to change.

C'mon 5 o'clock (ok, I'm cutting out at 4:45 p.m. to beat traffic)

:woohoo:

I've got 4.1 in my hands!!! $23.99 from Best Buy before tax!!! That's not the half of it either.

I bring it to the check-out guy and he starts wiping it on the demagnetizer and says: "Hey, FarScape. Aren't they bringing this back in a mini-series?"

You're GD right they are!!! I didn't say that, but I thought it.

The best things about Season 4 are those you forget... like WideScreen Baby!!! The Special Features listed on the back include:

* Spoilers if for some odd reason you don't want to know what the special features are. *

(1) "Farscape: The Story So Far" featurette; (2) behind the scenes interview: Rebecca Riggs; (3) Inside Farscape: Season 4 Visual Effects; (4) From the Archives: Season 2 Bloopers; (5) Alien Encounters; (6) Deleted Scenes; (7) "A Dren Load of Farscape" information booklet; (8) Cool Farscape Facts by Paul Simpson; (9) set, prop, and costume gallery; (10) Farscape trailers; and (11) ADV previews.

And yes... #7 actually says "A Dren Load of Farscape".

Depends. If you are still watching unseen episodes of Farscape, I would get the season three DVDs now and keep watching in order now, rather than waiting for the boxed set. If you have already seen all the episodes and don't mind the wait, get the season four DVD and then the boxed set when it is available.

As for me, I have been buying the DVDs as soon as they are available, so I have no boxed sets. I just can't wait. If they released the boxed sets at the same time as the individual eps, I probably would just pick them up by the season.

I generally bought the discs as they came out. I think I'm gonna wait for the season 4 box set. I'm gonna be out of the country for a while and won't get to enjoy them anyway. It's cheaper that way. It wasn't my favorite season anyway, so I can wait. Actually I might not have bothered except for the season 2 outtakes.

I have to agree with what witchdoctor said. You don't get anything extra with the box set, other than some cardboard. It does cost a little more to buy the five sets separately, but you could always wait for the season 4 set. It's a matter of personal choice and depends on which season you liked better, I would say. If you did start season 3 DVDs, you could at least budget a completion date, can't do that for season 4 since they haven't released a release schedule. ;)

I like season three better but I heard That the box set would probaly come out next october and by then I would just be finishing buying the indvisule ones. I don't know if I should wait and save money because season four's Box Set won't come out for at least two years anyway and buy them now.

~~~Still confused~~~
What is (1) "Farscape: The Story So Far" featurette?
Is that the "Farscape Undressed" show?
stellar
12-03-2003, 04:32 PM
No. It's unhosted. Just a bunch of on-screen text explaining the story with some relevant scenes plugged in.
The blooper reel is pretty funny though. And Rebecca Riggs is a little hottie.
You can get a few eps for cheaper at half price book stores. I've seen them there for 5 bucks.
BUT, I am waiting for the box sets. Because I am kewl.
One of these days, I will buy them ALL!
But as of now, I have only burned copies that my brother in law made a while back.
and he has so many missing eps.
I haven't seen every episode yet, either. Because I didn't HAVE scifi when the show was in its first 3 seasons.
BAH!
It's not like I have to pay rent or anything. Live at home with parents means buy farscape dvds...but if I do, I'm assured a guilt trip and those suck.
Oh well, christmas is coming up shortly.
maybe someone bought the box set for me.
that would save on the guilt AND the money.
WIN WIN!
So, I'm finished with the first three eps of season 4 (1st DVD of the set). Frelling fantastic picture and no Skiffy logo!!!
For those of you who have it: Is the animation on the menu screen the "previously on Farscape" montage from 4.22.Bad Timing? It sure looks like it.
When I pre-ordered this DVD the release date was December 3rd. Then when I checked Amazon.com on Tuesday they had the availability date as December 23. Today that date has been changed to January 27th. :dunno:
I've just sent them an e-mail asking what is going on.
As I mentioned earlier, the DVDs got shipped out late. So retailers (like Amazon & Best Buy) made up dates for the release since they didn't come in on schedule.
The January 27th date you see there is a bit misleading. That's the date for 4.2 but the Amazon.com staff seem to be slacking in their descriptions. Have no fear Selena! You'll get your Farscape fix sooner than that.
Now, it's all about me! I left work early (shhh, don't tell my boss) and picked up my copy of 4.1 at Best Buy for $23.99! And they had like 7 or 8 more copies to boot! Didn't get to watch much of it though. New "West Wing" episode took temporary priority. But I will be watching these this weekend from front to back. I did watch the "Story So Far" featurette and thought it was pretty decent as it did what it was intended to - bring you up to date on the show in a very small nutshell.
And yeah, the opening menu sequence does look similar to the "Previously on Farscape" montage from Bad Timing. Just slowed down a bit I think.
Back to work for me now...
Is anyone picking up 4.1 in Maryland? I called my local Best Buy and they don't have a clue.
BestBuys STILL DON'T have them in West Michigan... Neither does Suncoast and another chain that I went to.
I'm still if-y about the whole pre-order thing. It seems everyone who pre-ordered still doesn't have theirs.
On the Rebecca Riggs front (shadup)... On the Rebecca Riggs topic, It took me a little while to recognize her. I never get tired of hearing women with Australian accents.
I guess Tammy Macintosh won't get her own behind the scenes interview since she's not in the rest of season 4. Too bad, really.
THANKS, Mysterious. Based on your info, I made a call to MediaPlay this afternoon, and sure enough, they appeared to have received some between Tuesday and now. So, just like you, I slipped outa work a little early and FLEW down the highway to the store to pick it up. (I don't speed, I merely fly low.)
It's not like I have to pay rent or anything. Live at home with parents means buy farscape dvds...but if I do, I'm assured a guilt trip and those suck.
You gotta get that Harvey outta your head!!! (LOL, I haven't lived with my folks for 25 years, and I still have a "Harvey" giving me guilt trips. My "Harvey" sounds a lot like my Mom, and lays into me whenever I buy anything, or throw food out.)
When I made an order with Deep Discount DVD, they said that 4.1 was backordered! :) Either we're getting a lot more people turned onto Farscape, or we're getting a lot more Scapers turned onto DDD. :D
Yay, finally got mine! Geesh, called no less than 4 stores in 2 states checking for this :( Best Buy in Raleigh NC FINALLY had it but....it was in the back room! and I had a frell time getting the guy to get it. NOW BB thinks the release date is 23 so some might be holding them back. MAKE them go look! I drove 60 miles and after talking to a guy on the phone STILL had to wait 45 minutes for them to search the back room and they would only let me have 1 copy when I asked for 2. Make them go check! This is Frelled!
Thanks to whoever mentioned finding it at MediaPlay. As much as I hate paying nearly retail, after unsuccessful trips to Best Buy, Tower Records, Fry's Electronics, Suncoast and others, I'm happy to have my quest for season four Scape at an end. For the next seven weeks, anyway.
The Suncoasts by me have them... FOR $40. Screw that.
BestBuy generally has better prices than Amazon. I've never tried one of the fringe sales sites, but a lot of people use them and haven't complained. I've bought from Suncoast before and I paid MSRP... I was desperate. Suncoast has it and celebrates it. BestBuy is getting better. Walmart carried a lot of Season 1, but not much thereafter.
If I didn't find it at BestBuy on Wed. and I still didn't have it now... I'd have to shell out the $40. I couldn't take it.
