I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. Enterprise had potential but was mishandled from the get-go.

Actually, if this does come to pass, a break from Star Trek might be very beneficial to the francise. It is obvious Rick Berman and Viacom need to work on regaining support for Star Trek. Over many years support for the Star Trek francise has been taken for granted and thus the francise has faltered. I am sure support for Star Trek, but they need to work hard to find it again.

Not sure how to feel about this. I have watched most of the episodes of the series, though my attention has waxed and waned during its run - its certainly not "must see" TV.
I even like a few of the characters, but most of the crew are still cardboard cutouts and the stories aren't pulling me in. Perhaps it does need a break.
I feel for the hard core fans of the series and hope they get what they really want in the end: a great Star Trek series.

IMHO the only thing that is obvious to me is that Viacom needs to work on firing Berman and Bragga. Then bring on the Romulan wars to the Enterprise. The show has come a long way since the first season. I'd hate to see the show get cut before its potential is realized. But then maybe people are getting tired of the Hoshi/T'Pol debates. :D

I'm with Akimbo... Enterprise was not for me, but it's a bummer for the fans.
But at least they're getting a heads-up, if that's what it is. Unlike an unfeeling, unkind bolt from the blue...

Trekweb.com is reporting it now too, in addition to a move to Fridays.

The friday thing would be bad. Look at Dark Angel, or TOS. They were both canceled after a season in which they were moved to Fridays due to bad ratings.

And you know, the networks only seem to move a show around when they want to kill it and make it look like someone else's fault...

I can understand why people don't like ENT, and why it might need a rest from TV. But from a tactical perspective, it sucks. ENT is currently the only space-based series on the big 6 networks right now.
Maybe more people will get into space-based shows after the President makes his upcoming "Return to Outer Space" speech on Dec. 17th.
*On Dec. 17th, 1903, the Wright Brothers made their famous flight near Kitty Hawk, NC. So next week will be the 100th anniversary.

RustySlinky, if you look at TNG and DS9 and then look at VOY and ENT, there is no way anyone in their right mind can say that the latter group is better than the former group. They're just reaching for thin air and hopping they make money off of it. I am a loyal Trek fan, but week after week I feel obliged to watch ENT, and it shouldn't be that way.
In my opinon they screwed up ENT from day one. If you think about it the only way that ENT would work is if it was about the founding of the UFP, which was founded in 2161. Now, in this time a bunch of things need to happen:
1. Vulcans and Andorians have to go from hating each other to at least tolerating each other because they, along with the Humans, are the founding members of the UFP.
2. The Humans and the Klingons have to go from having no relations to hating each other.
3. The Romulan War happens from 2156 to 2160, between Humans and the Romulans, ending with the foundation of the Romulan Neutral Zone. During this time, neither Humans nor Vulcans see the Romulans.
Now there are many different ways to play this out but for some reason they threw in the Temporal Cold War, which, in my opinon, never really worked.
The other thing is the writing is horrible. It basically boils down to VOY writers trying to do DS9 and failing miserably. If you brought back the DS9 writers and hired some new blood, wrote a 7 season arc before anything else started, then gave them creative freedom to do what they what within the arc (i.e. B5), the show would be a lot better.

... checks...
Yep, I'm in my right mind.
VOY was better than DS9. The only problem with VOY was the last episode.

When it was announced that they were going to do a "precursor" to TOS I smelled a stinker. The whole idea just didn't go over for me. It sounded as boring as it ended up being.
I'm certainly not implying that I knew what the next Trek move after VOY should have been, because I certainly had/have no idea.
Maybe the whole thing does need a rest! It's had a good life!
I thoroughly enjoyed ST:TNG.
I loved, loved, loved DS9. It is my second favorite TV series of all time. Farscape, of course, is first. I've read every DS9 book that's come out and loved them all, too.
Voyager did not hold my attention for very long. It was always another spacial anomoly or stupid holodeck story and Janeway was so damned righteous. I stayed with it because it was Star Trek, it was sci fi and, well, jeez, what else is there? It was better than nothing. I always hoped it would improve.
I like Enterprise better than Voyager. I like it this season better than the first two. But, I think they need fresh writers. They seem to be out of ideas and at this point can't think of anything to do without mucking around with the history and throwing in time travel to create a situation or solve a situation.
So, they either need to get in fresh blood to spice it up, give it a new spice while still respecting Star Trek's history. Or, it may be time to give it a rest. I don't think it ever would have hurt to have a year or two between each series to make sure they have a good story, characters, actors, writers, etc. It would have created anticipation and buzz, as would a break before another one.
IMHO, of course.
