My boss made a comment a couple of weeks ago about one of our employees who has been stationed in Iraq since the beginning of October. He is a Specialist (Medic) in an MP unit and is part of the National Guard Reserves.
Anyway, my boss tells me that she is getting together a parcel of goodies for Christmas to send to him and his unit ... ... :santa: = Scaper opportunity! :applaud:
So I quickly ordered the Best of Season 1 DVD set and have included it in the parcel. So there is Farscape going to a combat unit in Iraq for Christmas :D

I was wondering if anyone else had relatives, friends or co-workers in a combat unit overseas?

Most of mine have rotated out, but my closest big bud may be rotating back in soon. I'll be sending a care package with him. ;)

My cousin isn't in a combat unit, but he is a captain (or maybe has made major by now!) in charge of the signal corps at Bagram AFB in Iraq...

First, woohoo!!! Way to go! :aok:
Yeah, I have friends and family overseas, but unfortunately all of their locations are top secret. Why they all had to decide to go the Special Forces route is beyond me. Oh well, I'll just have to scape them when they come home!!!
Good job again, Selena!

I don't have relatives in any combat units, but I've been writing to a few soldiers after finding their names over at booksforsoldiers.com. Which I found after reading about this site on SaveFarscape.com. A couple are in Baghdad at the President's palace. They say they have dvd players set up for watching movies together every night.

I have a few former co-workers who are over there doing intel support. I'm hoping to get a bunch of DVDs to them when I get back to work (I've got the flu), but I'm afraid that it might be too late for Xmas.

Just as a caution to all, it might be general knowledge to you and your area what squadron or group your friends are in....and you might assume that it's okay to put it out there because it's been covered locally, but it may be best not to put that out on the internet. It helps greatly in the overall scheme of things to not advertise that information for people's safety. Specifically numbers and squadron names. :)
Just something to keep in mind. :dunno:
Selena, EXCELLENT job! This is a wonderful way to get the word out to people! :)
Fantastic. And everyone else who is sending stuff to friends overseas...brilliant. :aok: It will give pleasure to more than just one or two people. Things like that are *always* passed around.

I would not list our co-workers unit or batallion as that is (IMO) a national security issue and could be a problem for our service men and women who have enough difficulties to deal with overseas anyway.
Our Christmas parcel was sent via an Arizona address so I guess they have some local way of staging care parcels for the troops overseas wherever they are.
BTW when I e-mailed the DVD vendor that it was destined for a care package to service personnel they did overnight express shipping without charge to me ... :applaud: to a caring merchant. I will definitely keep them in mind when I do business again.
I wished I could have sent the episde Terra Firma as it had Christmas in that and who can pass up Merry Frelling Christmas!

And oh, didn't you hear?
When Saddam Hussein was rousted from his rat hole, he declared, "I've been 'Scaped!!!"
He seems to have turned himself in, in order to use his knowledge of the whereabouts of the WMD (not the FMD, mind you) as a bartering tool for more Farscape episodes. He's only seen Seasons one and two, you see...
Let's just say the CIA was pretty shocked by this. And Saddam said his capture is all worthwhile, now that he's learned that a Farscape mini-series is underway.
Next to be 'Scaped... Osama. :grr:

Edit: I deleted my whole original post.
Just wanted to add: I am an idiot and thanks for catching it.
I was just so excited about it, my critical thinking got shut off. Sorry.

Guys, I'm sorry about editing NYPinTA's post removing the addresses. :( But there are *very* real security concerns, not to mention privacy concerns, about making such identifying information public.
Thanks for your understanding. I know everyone's heart is in the right place, but I also know that none of us wants to risk doing something that will jeopardize anyone's safety.

Thanks DoA. I've done some research on this and it violates several military privacy acts and the information that was listed is VERY VERY sensitive information. Inadvertently (cause I know you guys didn't realize it) it says a LOT about squadrons, battalions, and personal information about injured, etc. This is NOT supposed to be public knowledge and the active duty people that I spoke with (and one former Marine) flipped out and asked if we could please remove it from the board.
Also, if you see this posted elsewhere, could you either let us know or let the moderators of that board know?
NYPinTA...can you pm me and let me know where you found it?
If you guys have any questions or concerns, go ahead and email me at twich@watchfarscape.com or send me a pm.
Thanks for understanding. :) I love you guys!
Edited to add:
If you want to send greetings, here are some sites that will let you. :) They will mean just as much. Trust me.
http://anyservicemember.navy.mil/
And this site allows you to "donate" a care package AND send donations of current movies/dvds FOR said package:
http://www.usometrodc.org/care.html
Please check those out and see what you can do for a military member this holiday season. :) And guys....I love you all. I really do. Your generous spirits are so gentle and caring. Thank you. :)
