The circus stays at HBO

HBO will give its Sunday-night series "Carnivale" a 13-episode second season, starting production in the spring and airing next fall. The series got mostly good reviews this fall, but had mixed ratings, with 3.5 million viewers watching the finale, down from 5.3 million for its premiere. Variety (subscription required) (12/11)

Michael Ausiello of TV Guide Online is obviously pleased:

"IT'S IN THE CARDS: As predicted last month by yours truly (that's me!), HBO has officially greenlit a second season of TV's most underrated drama, Carnivale. Production is expected to get underway in the spring."

Isn't Ron Moore the writer-producer of Carnivale. So conceivably he could have Carnivale and a new BSG series in production in the coming months. This could bode ill for both shows if he can't give either his full attention.

Did I read somewhere that he passed off his BSG responsibilities at some point so he could concentrate on Carnivale? Or am I hallucinating again?

Yes. Here is a list of who is involved with Carnivale:

Writers on the series include Henry Bromell ("Northern Exposure"), Toni Graphia ("Roswell"), Daniel Knauf ("Wolf Lake"), Ronald D. Moore ("Star Trek: The Next Generation"), Dawn Prestwich ("Ally McBeal") and Nicole Yorkin ("Judging Amy"), and William Schmidt ("Prey").

CARNIVALE is created by Daniel Knauf; executive produced by Ronald D. On the plus side, there aren't any robotic hookers on Carnivale...

Yes, Ron Moore said in his IGN interview that he is no longer involved with Carnivale. So he chose to work with SciFi over HBO... Good luck to ya, Moore... :)

I think I'm going to have to subscribe to HBO. It's one of the few stations that seems to show some degree of quality programming.

Yet... :D He probably has plans to add a cooch-bot and to change Jonesy's character from a man to a woman in the second season! :rollin:

Haha, that makes me think of a line from a communist-themed episode of the cartoon "Sealab" (a truly hilarious show on the Cartoon Network), where the leader is ordering one of his female crew to seduce men and find out their secrets:

"Ask not what the Party can do for your pooty; ask what your pooty can do for the Party."
